I don't know how the system works exactly in badminton, but something is wrong if the best teams want to lose in the last match.

Usually the best teams are at the top at the end in their group and will player weaker teams (in most sports with a pool-system).

They should all play at the same time + don't know who they will play next in the elimination phase.

Nothing wrong with the group system, not sure why some here are suggesting it.

The problem, afaik was caused because one Chinese team lost an earlier game which put them second in the group. If the other Chinese pair won their group they would have met in the next round. Not wanting that, they threw the game. The others saw this and also wanting to try and avoid meeting one of the Chinese pairs (1st & 2nd in world) then tried the same.

Straight elimination would have avoided this but so would apropriate sportsmanship.

First they did that promo for that swimmer girl winning gold, and then immediately after they aired Phelps getting the silver last night, Bob Costas was like "coming up, Michael Phelps gets his 19th medal with a gold in the 800m Freestyle Relay"...

Actually, I was looking back and since WWII, Team USA hasn't won the gold or overall medal count very much in non-boycott years.

The worst part about NBC's coverage is that it's structured like it's a live event. In their volleyball coverage they showed the first set then did some interview with Phelps and showed something else, then came back to the volleyball in the second set with the score at 13-12. They constantly bounce around to various sports instead of just showing one sport to its completion and then going to the next.
