What's happening in this Iran-Cuba boxing match? Not on TV right now.

No one knows. Nothing was going on that should've ended in a disqualification. The boxer that "won" seemed really pissed off that it ended that way. And the boxer that "lost" just walked over and shook the hands of the opposing trainers and then left the ring. He refused to stand next to the ref afterwards even though the ref motioned for him to do it several times. The crowd ended up cheering for him when he left the ring.

Like I say, I said one innocuous comment about finding it funny, it got jumped upon so I posted in reply. I can genuinely tell you now I haven't watched one sport apart from football and didn't really want the Olympics here in the first place. I really don't give a shit how GB are doing and how USA are doing, but the triumphant attitude from a lot of Americans is funny.

Fun fact: even if you discounted all of the medals the United States has earned from Swimming we'd still have more golds and overall medals than Great Britain.

Because it was unnecessary? petty? and written in a way that specifically was designed to get a rise out of people? All while you pretend that the Olympics don't matter and you don't really care?

And you wonder? My guess.....you know you are only here posting to bait people.

It was me commenting that it was funny that the USA dominated one sport. I don't care about the Olympics, they don't really matter save me wanting to see the football team do well.

But cool I'm baiting

He's not like that at all, he often posts how gutted he is in the footy thread

Due mainly to him supporting a shit team he is used to failure this year

this is true :(

WTF. That seems weird.

You're just showing yourself up now tbh, I don't think he cares, not to mention it's idiotic to compare the two countries in the first place.

It's perfectly understanding that someone would downplay the importance of the Olympics when their country is doing terrible, and also find an outlet to downplay the Americans success.

Probably is perfectly understandable, but I just don't really give a shit. It's the first time in about four days I've checked the medal table just to see what's going on, and I saw that a large majority came in swimming. I found it humorous.

I honestly don't care that my country is doing terrible, I'm not one for patriotism, nationalism or whatever. I don't even know what we've won.

Congratulations on that.

Yeah I guess its just bad timing considering the debates we have already had this morning. On any other day they would probably have been ignored :P

If he really isn't pay attention the the Olympics I guess thats the risk you take posting in its thread while completely unaware of the debates that have occurred and the atmosphere.

You guys are missing the Czech babes in the beach volleyball?

This is true, I haven't read a page past the opening ceremony. Oh well, who gives a shit

I will never understand the dick measuring contest over the Olympics. I'm a proud Brit/American (dual nationality ftw) but first and foremost I'm a fan of sports. Just enjoy it.

I think there are rumours to allow professionals into the Olympics in 2016 at Rio. Not sure how much truth there is to it though.

Why should professional tennis players/footballers/basketball players etc be allowed to complete but not pro boxers?

I think they should unify the entry requirements across all sports and keep the same rules as they do in football, and allow u23 pros to compete.

Would make for a pretty interesting dynamic as far as who gets in and who doesn't IMO. I can't imagine most of the biggest names putting off multi-million dollar paydays for Olympic gold. The Olympics don't really mess with basketball, tennis, etc. that much (in that, for instance, they happen in the NBA offseason).

Whats with the long pants and base layers in the beach volleyball tonight.

Is it due to rain in London or something!? :P

Eh not sure about that chart. Its a lot easier for a bunch of small nations to get medals because on every level of the sport internationally generally each country has a maximum alotment of teams. Meaning that small countries get international experience while the big nations teams get locked out if they are the 3rd or 4th best team in the country despite the fact that they are probably some of the best teams in the world. The system is really built to favor smaller countries.

I am really impressed with what China has managed to do in such a short time. Two decades ago they were a non factor and their rise has been amazing.
