Stupid NBC lowered (read:practically muted) the crowd volume for the Ennis medal ceremony.

That was the best part of it all, hearing 80,000 strong belting out their anthem as one.

The bar might be stuck.

I need a report on how NBC handles the Men's 10,000 meters. Don't read if you don't know what happened.

Rupp is the first US medalist since 1964 which is hugely significant. Not to mention Mo is the first Brit to ever win the event.

Amazing opportunity for a story and I'm guessing NBC will botch the coverage.

They did a story about it before the race when it was live.

NBC isn't showing it tonight. They showed it live this afternoon. I thought they would you know show the women's 100m also but noooooo I had to frantically get on my computer

They only showed the final lap at the beginning of the primetime coverage (showed it all live earlier) and then quickly moved onto something else.

This is the first Olympics where I've tried to follow every sport. I watched Beijing here and there but not as much as I have this time. Such a great event it is which brings countries together and compete.

Love seeing the passion from people who work towards this moment for so long. Happy for all participants and winners.

Likewise I wasn't that into beijing either but this time around I trying to follow everything. Im even liking the archery lol

Can anyone explain how does keirin works? So basically 6 bikes start in parallel and then try to squeeze behind the pacer. After 5 laps of following then the real race start?

Why not just start in sequence behind the pacer at the beginning? And what's the point of 5 laps of following? To give gambler enough time to bet?

They need to build up speed initially. But whoever is in front takes all the wind and is disadvantaged at the end (used up more energy to fight the wind). The pacer lets them build up speed without having to face the wind and using up more energy.

Everytime I watch CTV and they play that music I think of 2010. Wish they altered the theme, like CBC did with theirs every Olympics.

Wait, there was an actual speed walking event? How is that a thing? I've never heard of this nonsense.

If you have seen the toll it takes on the athletes you wouldn't be talking "this nonsense". They probably walk faster than you can jog.

Oh I get that it's physically taxing as all hell. I still don't get how it turns into an event. Let's all compete to see who can travel this distance the fastest without doing what makes the most sense (running). That's just bizarre.

It's about the same as having different swim styles.
There's also the mental aspect as you have such a huge urge to run and need to control it.

Yeah its a stupid sport.......... TRADITION!!!!!

(but srs.....cut this and bring back baseball and softball)

Reading this thread I can't help but lol at the people still irate at football being an Olympic sport.

VAMOS POR EL ORO, MÉXICO

Brits had a funny attitude about it after they lost to Korea. They spend like 4 pages of this thread discussing about how they couldn't care less about football, lol.

Personally, I think it finally got interesting today. Plenty of goals and entertaining matches overall.
