That's traditional though, and has enough following to keep it. You don't need to watch everything you know ;)

I think the only argument for excluding/including sport should be how widely is it competed at a high level globally. Eg baseball isn't done at a high level by enough countries to include. Possibly cricket and rugby too, although they are widely supported across the commonwealth.

The Olympics is a perfect venue for minority sports to get anmomentnin the spotlight. It should be inclusive. The guy in the 50m pistol probably trains hard too, why kick him out just because its not fashionable?

I wonder if there are restrictions for individual sports from the IOC. Eg in theory the swimming, athletics, rowing and cycling could go on for the entire two weeks as they all have their own dedicated arenas.

I was just replying to the idea that racewalking should be removed because its not the most efficient way of moving.

I was only talking about things that would get cut. Getting in is a different matter.

You can reduce a lot of sports into fake ridiculousness.

Swimming backwards.
Swimming like a butterfly.
Throw a long thing very hard.
Throw a heavy thing very hard.
Jumping over things while running.
Throw a ball into a basket more than the other team.
Etc.

The only thing I really think should be removed are the equestrian events, since I don't think animals should be apart of the games.

Humans are animals.

Poor Archbold :/

It would be fantastic if they added Six-day racing to the Olympics as a second week competition.

Oh GAF. Shit talking about race walking. The event has been in Olympics for over hundred years now. One foot has to be on the ground all the time. So they give warning if not.

Except modern tv showed with slo-mo footage that not a single athlete had one foot on the ground between paces. Nobody was actually walking. Making all the red cards and DQ's just based on pure randomness.

You need 3 red cards from 3 different judges for a DQ. They have to be very blatantly up to get caught 3 times by 3 different people.

So a big part of the sport is who hides their cheating the best? Nice.

Not downplaying actual athlete performance here, but according to the science of movement not a single person was actually "walking", just sayin'.

Women's marathon starting.

They've acknowledged that there is slight lift amongst walkers in slow motion, but they say it needs to be perceptible to the human eye, not with high frame rate slow motion cameras. If you're lifting so much and so high that 3 different people can notice it, you have an advantage on everyone else.

I don't know if you saw the 10,000 meters on Saturday. If you did, I don't know if you watched closely. But at the end, there was a moment that sums up two decades of wishing and dreaming. Farah crossed the finish line first. He was the Olympic champion. His family was in the stands. His nation was on its feet, roaring. And in that moment, Farah did the most interesting and wonderful thing.

He looked back to find out what happened to his best friend on the track.

Rupp was right behind him, as always.

I can't wait for the movie.

Badminton mens double bronze medal final between Malaysia and SKorea has been pretty great. SKorea came back from 13-19 to win 23-21.

Just came across the story that Tower Hamlets, an Olympic Borough, have been refused all three promised contributions to the games that they were originally given - one of them including the marathon go through the borough, but they'll still suffer from the same disruption as other boroughs who are hosting events.

It's been described as as "travesty" and a "betrayal"

It's amazing how wet it is in London, it's sunny and bright here in the South. Steeplechase-like puddles forming on the marathon course!

Hmmm, I wonder if I should account for the marathon in my plans for getting to London. I don't need to leave for several hours yet, but I've no idea how long it takes to open roads after a marathon.
