Oh well, i'll catch the next one instead.

Failed a drug test and subsequently paid his debt to the sporting world by sitting out 4 years but people from loser countries act like he murdered someone
Dudes a cheating fool who fucked over anyone who paid money to watch him "perform."

He should fuck right off. Same as Dwyane Chambers.

what's the context behind this? i don't get it.

Good idea, let's ban China and the Soviet Bloc from ever competing in the Olympics again.
Michael Johnson on Gatlin winning the bronze: "It is a bronze medal nobody will pay attention to because of who's won it."

Also (from the BBC's Q&A section with Michael Johnson):

Can Justin Gatlin win at London 2012?

"He is running very, very well right now, he's a great talent, I'm a little surprised how well he's running at the moment, his speed and power is incredible but he was out of the sport for four years. He could win but some other things would have to happen, if he runs his fastest race and other people run their fastest race, he's not going to win. He did a tremendous amount of damage to the sport, I don't have many words for him when I see him, but we'll see what happens."

I guess he joins the "lesser countries" in not forgiving dopers.

•Lowpoint of the Games
The badminton game throwing

•Sport you've most enjoyed watching
Judo and Handball

All those GIF's :D

Most dramatic* and/or tragic event of the games. Just google Shin Lam. We've had pretty heated discussions about this (and there've been many at fencing forums as well).

*Not counting Matthias Steiner just barely avoiding a severe injury.

neat, thanks.

*edit* oh god. :(

Dopers don't deserve the opportunity to come back.
Agreed. If an individual is caught, his olympic career should be over.

It's also disgusting to see all the hypocrits who question the success of other countries when their own country has a history of doping.

•Highlight of the Games
Women's soccer and gymnastics.

•Athlete(s) of the Games
Women's soccer players and gymnasts.

•Sport you've most enjoyed watching
Women's soccer and gymnastics.

uhm, they weren't all cheating. Nobody is saying we should ban the USA because of Gatlin.

China and the Soviets cheating is systemic, USA doping is at the individual level.

I don't care much for Gatlin but this haranguing is pretty stupid, not like he won gold and smashed records. He's not like Marion Jones who lied for years and was deservedly tarred and feathered.

Well, No one from china cheated this year and I'm not sure who you mean by soviets.. are we still in the cold war? Gatlin cheated relatively recently, 4 years is way to short a time to be out. He won a bronze and a silver whilst basically shitting on all olympic values.

I'm not american but Tyson Gay deserved the Bronze more

anyway I agree with the others that dopers should never be allowed to return

If this is supposed to be the best afterparty of all time, and it's to be a truly British party, the last song has to be Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody.

With the whole stadium singing.

Calling it now.

Good idea, let's ban China and the Soviet Bloc from ever competing in the Olympics again.

And USA too, since most of the dopers are from the US.

•Highlight of the Games - Badminton epic final.

•Lowpoint of the Games - Boxing and the clock drama in Fencing.

•Athlete(s) of the Games - Usain Bolt and Mo Farah.

•Biggest Villian of the Games - Gatlin taking Tyson Gay's medal.

•Funniest Moment of the Games - Le Clos' father, Bolt doing the Queen's wave, Harting running the 110 hurdles.

•Sport you've most enjoyed watching - Archery, Volleyball, Badminton, Track & Field.

LOL You sound like that ex-coach that started this shit.

Athletics had its reputation shattered by all the doping. Thankfully stars like Bolt are bringing it back in a huge way. Dopers should not be at the Olympics. Simple as.

The UK tried to lifetime ban our offender, but we were overturned by the stupid Swiss International Sport Court.

the BBC should get all the awards at any TV critic awards later in the year (whatever they are)... they have been fantastic and I'm sure anyone using them from overseas will agree with us

Apparently the BBC aired an advert for Channel 4's coverage of the Paralymics earlier.

That's ridiculously awesome of them. Airing a commercial for their competition.

I don't know why everyone is hating on Gatlin, he isn't even the worst drug offender in track and field at these games. Cakir Alptekin who won the women's 1500 had previously served a two year doping ban. And then this year she improved her PB by 5.5 seconds. I'm sure she did all that with hard work.

Highlight of the Games - Le Clos's father's interview, Bolt repeating his gold medal wins for another year, Mo Farah winning his races, Phelps dominating in the pool, Ye Shiwen breaking the WR. Mexico winning the gold medal in men's football. The Canada/US women's football match because that was a damn good match.

Lowpoint of the Games - Officiating/Judging in many events (ex: fencing, boxing), Americans having to watch the games on NBC, unfounded accusations of doping or cheating (ex: Shiwen, Bolt).

Athlete(s) of the Games - Mo Farah, Usain Bolt, Ye Shiwen, Michael Phelps.

Biggest Villain of the Games - Justin Gatlin. Carl Lewis. Sepp Blatter. The guy who tried to take the baton away from Usain Bolt. CTV for loving that "I Believe" song.

Funniest Moment of the Games:

No Jessica Ennis mention? The first gold medal in woman's boxing? Chris Hoys 6th gold medal in racing?!

what's the context behind this? i don't get it.

she would have won, but the clock broke and gave extra time during which she lost. the rules forced her to stay on the platform for the entire appeals process. eventually security forced her off after the appeal was denied for ridiculous reasons (it would be unfair to her opponent or some similar bs)

I can't remember everything. D:

It's been a pretty damn good Olympic Games in terms of athletes accomplishing great feats and I'm sure I forgot a lot.

I definitely forgot the inclusion of female athletes from Saudi Arabia, Brunei, and Qatar. And Oscar Pistorius.
