How many here are buying this device despite their 4S/3Gs working completely fine? I can understand why someone who has a buggy, or damaged, iPhone would be tempted to upgrade but if your phone is fine? Are you not effectively paying hundreds of dollars for a new case?
Every new iPhone has exclusive new features, be it hardware, software, or both. That is why people upgrade.

Case? no new features ect. Also if you know how to sell your apple products you can minimize your cost of upgrading down the line. I upgrade my macs every year for about 100-200$ so over 5 years I only spend about 1000$ upgrading and staying current instead of having to thrown down 1500+ for a new one after a few years of having an aging mac.

Same goes for the phones. I'm actually making a profit on this upgrade :D

the 5 is for 5 new products.

This is my hope.

New iPhone
Nano
iPod Touch
?? Headphones?
?? iMac?? New dock connector?

Prob just there as a tease anyway. I'm hoping they don't call it the iPhone 5. it would be so dumb.

I think buying every new iPhone, annually, is kind of ridiculous. But, while my 3GS still works well enough, the new one will be a pretty huge bump in performance and screen quality. That seems worth it to me. Describing that upgrade as "a new case" is silly.

My iPhone 4 works fine but there's numerous things I can't do like Siri and 3D Flyover/turn by turn in Maps, etc. The 5 will also be faster, thinner, have LTE, etc. More than simply a new case.

And when you sell or trade-in your old phone, the cost to upgrade is extremely small, so why not?

There were TONS of good reasons to upgrade from the 3Gs to the 4. I just wasn't eligible for upgrade and the 4s wasn't the full jump I wanted.

I pay for a family plan and my mother has no use for a smartphone. So I use my upgrade one year and hers the other year. Selling my iPhone for basically how much I bought it for.

Assuming my phone sells for what I'm hoping it sells for, I'd be paying $100 to upgrade. That's the cost of AppleCare itself, so I'd basically be getting a new phone along with a fresh one year warranty.

I'm all the way on board if it's thinner than the 4.

As much as I adore the design of the iPhone 4, it's still a bit too thick for my tastes.

I'm still really curious to see what sort of exclusive software features this has, if it doesn't have NFC in the phone.

I wonder if it'll have a clone of Google Now. Lol.

The leaks are released by Apple on purpose.

iPhone 5 = Teardrop shape. Believe.

I think this would be kind of hilarious, but I definitely don't want a teardrop.

Maybe if they actually went to a true 4" screen instead of this widescreen nonsense though.

I keep hearing this, what does it mean though? Aren't most android phones 16:9?

I really think widescreen makes virtually no sense on a device that I'm going to be mostly using in portrait. I'll bet the horizontal usability is barely better than the 4, too. And since they're just going to be cutting the same panels to a different size, it presumably means there's going to be no improvement to the screen technology.

For the first time ever, I'm not very excited about a new iPhone.

So I'm planning on pre-ordering this online, but I have a question: How fast does the initial stock sell out?

Will I have to be eyeing my computer like a hawk, waiting for the exact time when pre-orders begin to have a good chance of getting one with no problems?

I have a 4 and it has become nonfunctional 2-3 times for varying reasons so thats why I'd like to get a 5.

Also new features! :D

Oh that makes sense. It is supposed to use new "in-cell" display tech that puts the touch digitizer and display in the same layer.

Yes.

HYPE? HYPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup. Unless you don't mind waiting 3 to 4 weeks. Possibly 5 weeks at first.

Gosh this is going to be really fun trying to get one, I have a 4s with a damaged screen and it is only 16gb. I need 32gb at least for everything, so MY WALLET IS READY!

My screen isn't cracked, I got sweat under it from running one day. So it has spots all throughout the screen. I put it in rice but it didn't help. Still works though!

Ok seriously... this is terrible. I wish there better control over the manufacturers where this is leaking from.

I really miss the old days when no one had a clue what Apple was doing and their unveils would blow the socks off everyone. Even the haters! Now... almost every detail gets leaked.

I'm really hoping Apple unveils something completely different just to troll the leakers.

I'd much prefer a diagonal increase to 4" instead of this adding an extra row of icons fuckery. I don't want or need extra vertical real estate, but I wouldn't mind larger finger targets.

Oh you mean, like just a proportionally scaled up screen, no change in ratio?

What parts have not leaked by now? Its ridiculous. The new iPhone has been in manufacturing for such a long time, that literally every single part almost have leaked, and that completely seperate.

It happens sometimes that the final product or a prototype gets leaked. In that case, there has been 1 leak. In this case, we have had like 12 different spare parts, all leaked from probably 12 different factories. Kinda shows, how overdue this launch actually is. Or rather, how careful Apple is to have enough units available at launch.

Apple should have credit for doing the reveal and launch so close to each other. Thats basically all credit i can give them by now.

Am i the only one, feeling the extension of the screen size, feels completely unwanted from Apples side?

It surely feels like its something they with great reluctancy gave into. I mean, the actual dimensions and execution, just breathes compromising between what the costumer wants due to competitors screen size and what the philosophy of the Apple design team is.

Honestly, it feels like Apple would rather just like release another Apple iPhone 4 than this. Same screen size, some new software and processor and thats it.

Its kinda like Nintendos reluctance to make the DVD player in the console actually play DVDs.
