Halo |OT9| One Final Effort Is All That Remains

Halo might be the only game that could use a dedicated cynical bitchfest thread.

Oh wait...

You guys aren't making this obscene wait any easier.

I would like to see the netcode improved. For example, no wait time during matches regardless of who quits (host or not). It really disrupts the game's flow when this happens.

The only way to accomplish this would be through dedicated servers, which have their own set of drawbacks.

A game that barely has any customization has button mapping.

Why do you think Bungie never included custom controls? If 343 Industries doesn't either, why? Can someone give a serious response or thought in regards to this question? Keep in mind that actually implementing it is negligible for a studio like Bungie or 343 Industries.

My impression - 08 - setup and focus on other projects, expanded Universe stuff, helping Bungie etc
09 - Preproduction, skeleton team
10 - 12 Huge growth in staff, 18 months of 250+ people working damn hard

Trying not to defend or condemn, but I can't but read via twitter and elsewhere that a lot of the team has been crunching for months, so it's more a question of what they chose to be important.
Which is completely fair to criticise.

See, I get where you're coming from, but that doesn't strike me as entirely fair.
The (rudimentary I'll bet) restuarant modelling likely happened during some late night crunch when you're trying to build a space to test something out and you let loose a bit of steam and stress by trying to make it fun, lighten the atmosphere in the room.
I'd have to assume that really isn't why buttons aren't remapable. It's (I hope) because people sat around a table and decided it's not something they want to spend time on. They want to, oh I dunno, change grifball dramatically.
I certainly don't agree with the decision, but I wouldn't blame the guy who modelled a few buildings either (or that he was allowed do it).
Can't tell if serious.

If you buy the Halo 4 special console do you get all the stuff you get from the limited edition of the game? (Specifically the in game stuff like the early specializations)

Well at least for me, Bungie's default controls weren't shit so I never needed it. 343's default is weird. I've converted to Bumper Jumper so I don't care anymore.

So wait, this game still isn't being made by god? a;welkoha;welkfja;slkdjf;lsaknjf;laj;lsajasdf. Well he/she/it better be in the credits or you'll get more of my written glossolalia.

Well, guess I won't bother with that then. GG 343

It sounds weird at first but when you realize that most special edition consoles are sold to first time buyers, ironically, it makes a lot more sense. We have struggled with this aspect for years and there's not a lot of easy ways to address. However you could try trading your normal edition that it comes with, with a friend and figure it out that way. Obviously clunky, but doable.

$400 is too steep a price. We're at the end of the console cycle, M$ (relevant).

People are still buying consoles new. I didn't buy my first console until 2003, and it was a PS1. I didn't get an Xbox until two months before Halo 2, most of the way through the OXBOX's lifecycle.

If your Xbox works, why would you need a new one, let alone a LE?

What sort of excuse is that?
You couldn't put the SE of the game in with the SE of the console?
Seriously? FFS!

Man I love these modders, but they missed an opportunity with this one.
This could be a much more poignant if they used the Jetpack model instead.

Just to focus all your rage on armor abilities.

Also, if they were the ghosts of countdown, wouldn't they be using camo?

"We have struggled with this aspect for years and there's not a lot of easy ways to address. "

There is an easy way to do it. It's just less profitable.

Wait, modders have attacked Reach? Since when?
What about other games?

A lot of games have been modded on live ever since some keyvault magic was uncovered toward the end of Halo 3's lifespan.

I remember people making a big deal out of an H3 Aimbot that came out around that time, but I have never seen mods personally.

They're obstensively still pretty rare. I am guessing these guys met up with some GAFers in MLG?

Oh. So, nothing to worry about.
Never saw a modder when i played Halo 3 (from launch till Reach). Or in any other game either (that is, in any COD i've played).

I want in on one of these games lol

You're lucky.

And yeah, modders won't be a big issue for Reach - however, the same facilities that let them mod Reach will also let them mod Halo 4 and that will be a bigger, more attractive target for these wankers.

Hmm, wonder how many games of Halo 3 i've played. Probably some 4000 or more. Never saw a modder, though once i got in a suspicious match where me and my friend couldn't do anything, though it may well have been just extreme lag. EDIT adding in my Reach matches... eh, i have no idea how many i've played. 1000+? Let's say 5000 games and no modders. Just how lucky am i?

Hopefully modders won't be an issue in Halo 4...

Xbox Modding online is still prohibitively expensive and the information isn't something that any old script kiddy can google and use without fear of being banned very shortly (as in hours, not days or weeks). Last I checked, buying Keyvaults aren't easy to come by and few people have the knowledge to overcome them. (Hopefully it stays that way)

Xbox security is pretty tight even now in terms of wholesale ruined online games.
PS3 I hear has some big problems nowadays with their free online access and relatively easy modding,
although I am not sure if it's really as widespread as it seems according to what I have read.
I've read that some older COD games are irreparably broken.

Yeah CoD4/5 are completely broken on Xbox due to modders.

On Xbox?
I'm not sure about that, I haven't really looked into that.
Perhaps those games are vulnerable to hot-swapping exploits that don't require JTags?

One of the biggest things that keeps me coming back to Xbox 360 other than exclusives is the online has been entirely free of modders in my experiences with the games I play.
I rarely play COD though. I think COD's multiplatform nature allows it to be more easily modded. Halo 3 took most of it's lifespan to get it's first seemingly semi-threatening online capable mod. (Aimbot)
