I received an email at 1:20 am from Walmart letting me know that the pre-order I placed on October 25th had shipped, with an estimated arrival date of Wednesday.

Good luck to everyone else who placed a Walmart.com order!

Is anyone else having trouble linking a Nintendo account? It won't take my Club Nintendo information, even though I just signed into nintendo.com on my PC and am staring at the profile information to make sure I have it right. It just keeps saying my information is not correct on the Wii U.

edit: never mind, apparently a Nintendo Network ID is not the same thing as a Club Nintendo ID, so I had to create one. Silly me, thinking Nintendo would have a single account for me to use!

I plan on sleeping most of today (18th) and making the wait till FUCKING MONDAY go faster.

Cheers to all those who got theirs, and my sympathies and feel to those who have to wait for UPS shipping.

And also, sucks to be anywhere that gets it even later. :p

I notice a lot of people complaining about the fact that this console seeming underwhelming to them when they think about the next Playstation or Xbox.

I NEVER bought a Nintendo console thinking I was getting one third of the pie, or that it was in the same game as anything else. I buy Nintendo crap because I like Nintendo things. I like their games, their characters, their design, and their people. As far as I'm concerned, as long as there's either going to be a Zelda, Metroid, or Super Smash on a console, I will buy it. Anything else (Xenoblade, etc.) is icing on the cake.

I buy Playstations for their Killzones, Naughty Dog, and other exclusives/first parties, as well as their relations with developers (Media Molecule, Quantic Dream, Etc.)

I buy Xbox for it's Halo...
Really, That's just about all... OH! and also Perfect Dark Arcade! Yeeeeaaaaaahhhhhhh..... I have a bad history with Micro$oft. I respect them, and I buy their crap but I don't like them, or their ways...

I love PC for it's versatility, modability, and scalability. Also, I can say that my Skyrim not only looks years better than console versions, but after about a month of installing mods recklessly, it's just as buggy... Also Steam.

Each system has it's own flavor in the form of exclusives and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Just watching the system stream and in nintendo land when it randomly populates the plaza bit when you run up to a random person it tells you things they have done in the game. Fuck nintendo thats all i want at a friends list level.

Went back out

Same Meijer that had the two basics still had them in a case so I could have easily picked one up if I wanted to

Another Meijer was sold out and the Wal-Mart I went to only had the reserved systems

Once I'm satisfied with what the Wii U has to offer in the near future, then I'll buy one

For those like me that had trouble connecting to you router, you must set all neteork settings to manual. I finally got it to connect after doing so.

Wait, did he say two were playing online at the same time, one with the gamepad and the other with the Wiimote?

Or did I hear that wrong?

One one the pad, the other with the wii remote. Also the two in the same machine. Its capable of render the game twice.
The two in the same machine vs others in online multiplayer.

Have you not kept up with the way wii and ps3 use pointer controls?, you use the pointers to move the camera around.

No I have not. I watched the video again and see that you have to move the pointer to the side of the screen to look more that direction. Seems cool but at the same time I would think you would lose badly in an online game with that controls. Any thoughts?

Bit concerned this will mean a repeat of PSN pricing, with zombiU being £54.99 in the uk, and mario being £49.99 (which is what online sites are using as RRP and then discounting to £39.99)

If that's the case then I'm not buying much digitally, it even makes first party games expensive, even after factoring in the points for deluxe systems.

People who master it swear by it, people say it can be as good as mouse and kb. For me ive never mastered it on ps3 or wii fully.

Okay, I feel like I gotta get this out and done before I finally head to bed, so here I go:

First home console midnight launch experience ever (Qualifying it like that for myself because just dropping by the Sony store on the afternoon before the Vita's midnight launch was nothing compared to this) and best launch experience yet.

After asking RPG Wizard about how the line was doing, I gave it a good hour and a half before leaving my sis' apartment with the big-ass folding chair I brought from home and catching up on my sleep at the line instead of on sis' couch so I could secure a good spot. Against all common sense, I drank some Sprite before heading down to Rockefeller Plaza so any sleep attempts were met with sporadic snoozes peppered throughout the morning until noon if anything. In terms of breakfast arrangements, Nintendo had arranged a "Chock Full o' Nuts" truck with free breakfast and heat packs or warm blankets for purchase. I had gotten my egg and sausage roll before they announced this so I was slightly irked if anything.

My favorite part of going to Nintendo World events lately is seeing the familiar faces, and once we were given our wristbands, people freely walked up and down the lines outside to maybe check out how far the line went or catch up with anybody else they didn't know was already there. I reacquainted myself with a bunch of familiar faces, everybody was pretty cool. Shouts for NeoGAF members were met with silence though. Maybe they were asleep when I shouted for them?

Oh, one of the coolest things to happen today was that the Streetpass NYC guys printed up a poster that was basically an over-sized Thank You letter to Nintendo and Platinum Games for making Bayonetta 2 happen on Wii U. They got loads of signatures from fans on the line, and I've linked their tweet to Kamiya-san with the shot of the poster. Scroll a little further down and you can see his tweet reaction.
Try to find my signature on there :p

As the day wound down into evening, they let people on the line enter into a sort of stage setup at Rockefeller Plaza, where an MC rallied the crowd for cheers and held a quick cosplay contest and Streetpass e-peen measurement contest for a 3DS game of the winner's choice as the prize. The last phase of the party lasted from about 6:30 pm to midnight, so the techno music selection they were blaring on the speakers eventually looped around not just once but I think twice. I sure as hell know Daft Punk's "Around The World" got play three separate times. For the evening, they were giving out free Grilled Cheese Sandwiches with hot apple cider.

As the night wound down, I decided "Fuck it" and started to shout for "RPG Wizard" from here. Luckily, he was basically right in front of me on the next row over in front of my group, so we got to chatting about stuff even though I'm sure I was fairly awkward. Later on I found out the person he was hanging out with was another fellow GAFer, Charoncaori!!

Reggie came out to greet the crowd twice and give a speech, and each time asked everybody in attendance if their bodies were ready. XD I've got both talks on video recorded on my iPhone, I'll have to check their quality before it goes up I suppose.

When the clock wound down to midnight, it took a good long chunk of time for Triforce to get his Wii U all checked out and all those pictures taken of him with the Wii U and Reggie or whatnot. I don't mean any offense with the comparison, but
I remember Shawn Elliott on the "MGS4 Preview-Review" 1UP Yours podcast comparing Hideo Kojima saying he was done with the MGS series to that Youtube guy Fatman and how nuts on food he was and how neither of them truly did close the book and just stopped things after saying they would. Basically what I'm suspecting is that despite his saying over and over that he was looking for a successor and that he was going to stop. (To what, the practice of waiting in front of a big-ass line for something?), he'll still be doing launch events. That's just what I'm thinking, that's all.

Aaaaand I almost fell over myself and slammed my head against the computer desk here so I'm gonna go and sleep already. Before I tune out, here's the picture I had a bystander take of RPG Wizard, Charoncaori and me after we bought our Wii U systems.

ZnlwR.jpg

Yeah, I edited my Miku avatar into the picture after the fact.

Interesting. I wonder if instead of the pointer moving to the side of the screen and then the screen view rotates, you can have the point stay in the middle of the screen like kb/mouse.

You could set this option with a plethora of others in Wii shooters like the Conduit and Call of Duty(i believe this one had it too). You had controls over the bounding boxes and everything.

The update to the system is killing me. Gf passed out with the peaceful update music playing.

Ah, she was a trooper til' she couldn't do anymore troopin'.

Even though I own a Wii, i've only briefly used Wiimote controls for FPS games and it feels really wierd. I tried to get used to it but couldnt, the constant 'pushing' against the sides of the screen to look around was really annoying. I'm surprised the Wiimote seems to be the 'best' way to play FPS games on Wii, guess its something i'll have to get used to or else get my ass handed to me when I use other control methods on the WiiU (when I finally get me hands on one on the 30th, damn UK release date!!!)

60$ for NSMBU seems a bit excessive. Wasn't the Wii version 40$?
And all those 3rd Party prices are chosen by the publisher, right? I can see myself buying a disc version and switch it out with a download, when a sale comes around.

Yeah im in your camp mate, it feels like im trying to rub my belly and pat my head but my mate loves it on the move and really does well in games. I know alot on gaf have also posted that a good pointer player will smoke a sticks player online.

Does anyone know if Newegg has painless returns? I want to get Mario digitally, but my copy is already in the processing phase. Can I possibly cancel before it's shipped, or will I just need to return it once I get it for a refund?

Anyone else having trouble with wii u connecting to network device. Tips are welcome

See if this helps...

Wii Remote IR is much faster and more accurate than dual-analog. If you can master it with a small bounding box (pretty much as small as it goes) it's as close as a console's ever gotten to KB/M without actually being KB/M. (which is still superior and more accurate)

Isn't that how most pc games work? Keyboard to strafe and mouse to look.

Or did I hear that wrong?

edit: is is that just local multiplayer?
Video title says online.

So you CAN play online with someone in the room using the Wii U pad, with no need for split screen?! Holy shit.

Heh, amazon.com just sent me an email about external USB drives. Haven't been looking at them, but have looked at wiiU stuff. Are they that smart to have made a connection?

My Wal-Mart opens at 9am. I don't have a pre-order, when should I get there for? I was thinking 7:30am but it's -19 with wind chill so I don't want to freeze to death waiting.

Question for those who have their systems (lucky buggers:) )....

The gamepad lasting 3 hours before needing a recharge is something of a worry for me. If you use the charging dock that comes with the deluxe model, can you (like with the 3DS cradle) leave it plugged in and put the Gamepad in it in between gaming sessions so you keep 'topping up' the charge, and will this affect battery life?

Also, if you don't use the dock and plug the Gamepad directly to the power, can you play whilst you charge?

I don't want to get to a point whereby I can't play because i need to charge the damn thing!

Jeez that sucks man. Only -1 here :/
I'm thinking of just wearing a ton of layers + emergency marshmallow jacket + hat + gloves and just taking a seat to list to a podcast while I wait. I don't know though, I'm probably going to seem weird as fuck hanging out for an hour and a half in the cold (I know people that work at the Wal Mart lol).

But do you think 7:30 is too early or just the right time? :S
