The slow OS is the only glaring flaw for me right now. It can really take a while to switch to the Miiverse. Hopefully, they're preparing refinements in time for the Japanese launch.

Beyond that, we have the usual console launch shenanigans -- crappy ports.

Since it was at the end of the last page: anyone else feel like the Gamepad only rumbles on the left side? Or am I gonna have to call Nintendo for a replacement?

My wifi connection keeps dropping while downloading the update.

Which ethernet adapter works well with the Wii U?

EDIT: I ordered the official Wii LAN Adapter on the Nintendo Store.

Strolled into Wal-Mart today and saw a couple of Wii-U's on the shelf. I thought a launch day sell out was a forgone conclusion, but I may have been wrong.

They had 2 basics at my Walmart about 2 hours ago, I was floored. Would have been tempted, but there is literally nothing at launch that I care about at all except maybe Mario, and even that's a bit of a stretch. I'll pick one up once Pikmin 3 and Bayonetta 2 are out.

Ok miiverse is awesome! Loved reading all the comments after playing zombieu :) now I'm messing around with the gamepad while watching walking dead....good shit

Metroid Blast multiplayer is amazing.

Don't even need the YouTube channel because it already runs like a champ on the browser:

Went to Best Buy at around 3pm today. Walked to customer service and had no problem picking up my $5 reserve.

Also, played Nintendoland with 5 friends passing the controllers and gamepad around. Man those three chase games are extremely fun. I love Luigi's Mansion, Mario Chase, and Sweet Day. Everyone was laughing and having a good time. This is what gaming is about. I'm very pleased with the Wii U already. =D

But disappointed there is still no Rayman Legends demo. Or any other demos for that matter.

So, do we have like a list of all the disappointing reveals?

  • Ports being subpar
  • Account being tied down to one singular piece of hardware
  • Loading times
  • Disappointing hardware tear down
  • OS/Game hangups

I've had three hard locks today requiring me to pull the power, all during loading screens (two in the OS, one loading Black Ops multiplayer).

Perks of being an early adopter.

Wtf is up with this update? Keeps timing out on me.

Did any of you guys who successfully completed the update have it time out on you constantly?

I have been impressed with the limited playtime on Mario and sonic racing. But this Internet issue is atrocious and embarrassing.

For all the complaining I'll say this; Mario in HD is a thing of beauty. So glad this finally happened, I've been waiting a long time!

Just wait until Galaxy 3.

Or Galaxy 1 + 2 HD Collection.

Come on Nintendo, you know you want to do it... and you know we want it...

NSMBU looks pretty much what I expected from shots of NSMBW on Dolphin, which isn't really a bad thing.

It quit on me twice, but thankfully it resumes from where it dropped each time.

Okay now where's the list of positive impressions?

  • NSMBU is good
  • Nintendo Land is fun
  • Most of the OS functionality is good (chat, Miiverse) - some ppl even like the UI
  • Browser/YouTube is good for most
  • Some people have had very positive experiences with OffTV play
  • Yoshi's Land Wii U probable
  • 5 years of high quality Nintendo first party titles upcoming

Guys, seriously: am I the only person with a Gamepad that feels like it only rumbles on the left side, and the vibration is loud as hell? Everyone has one!

Positive lists don't exist on GAF because everyone wants to cry and bitch

K, thanks, I'll keep trying then.

First thing I looked for was a universal option to disable Rumble like the 360 has. Didn't find one.

Nintendo's currently printing Christmas cards for everyone that defends all of these crappy design decisions.

Just turned on my Wii U. I don't have an HDMI receiver, so I connected optical to my TV and sound comes out as Pro Logic II. That's fine by me. I had no trouble at all getting the Wii U to recognized my Wi-Fi connection. Downloading is slow, watching the football game while this is happening.

I also noticed my Gamepad makes a rattling noise when I shake it. I wonder if it's the face buttons that are making that noise?

No.

Anyone get Miiverse messages to work within Mario yet? It tells me to connect to Miiverse, but I am. So I go to Miiverse to look for an option to allow messages within the game, and there's no such option. Blehhh.

I can't seem to get MiiVerse stuff to show up in any game. I can post to MiiVerse from within a game every now and then, but I don't see comments on the world map of NSMBU, people in the NintendoLand Plaza, or people on the Wara Wara Plaza.

I've see people asking but no answers.

Any fix for the tv cutting off the edges overall? A few menus have settings for it, but on a per app basis. My tv doesn't have any widescreen/overscan/etc settings that affect this.

Me too. Not sue if its a settings issue or because miiverse is wonky tonight due to server load.

Thanks, but that didn't help answer my question at all. :-(

I keep seeing this.

Is the Wii U really not doing 1:1 pixel mapping here?

Dumb question that I'm sure has been asked. Is there any way to turn the Gamepad display off for games (or portions of games) that don't utilize it? It's very distracting when playing NSMBU, and I'd rather not play with a Wiimote.

Checked controller settings and thought I found it, but it was only for when not using the gamepad.

It's not just you, the rumble is pretty weak...Feels like it's coming for the left-center side of the touch screen.

Nope. I had to adjust my TV to take this into account. Every menu and every game was cutting off the outer borders. Works now though.

Nope. You can turn it off, but the second you press a button it turns itself back on.

Was thinking about this as well. Hope a "curtain" accessory is made to block it for games where it's just superfluous.
In the dark with the light glowing, it can be annoying. Turning down the brightness helps though.
