ZAVVI UPDATE!

New Super Mario Bros U has been shipped and the Wii U has gone from 'awaiting stick pick' to 'awaiting despatch'.

Looking promising!

The Wii U has now become my go-to for Amazon Instant, Hulu and Netflix. Prior to this, it was my Roku, but the UI for Netflix is reallyyyyyy nice.

Leaps and bounds better than the 360 too.

I have been using it too but I think the 360 netflix app is still a little better if for no other reason than automatically playing the next episode in a series.

QFT.

I've got a deluxe Wii U, but no ZombiU yet. My wife made me put the brakes on my game purchases after picking up the system (w/ NSMBU and Rabbids Land). She says if I didn't, I wouldn't have any ideas we could give to her parents and mine for Christmas gifts I might like.

She's no fun. :(

GAF; I bought a Wii U Deluxe with ZombiU last night, what have I dones?!?!

you're futtbucked! now enjoy your zombies
Tell me about it, today i visited Gamestop and they HAVE my ZombiU bundle back in their storage room. But won't give it to me until friday 10am.

GIVE IT TO ME ALREADY...!!!

Edit: 389€ by the way. Great deal with the extra controller, when ZombiU is 10€ more than stand alone NL already.

ouch! those dicks!

Overpaid for a mediocre game, but got a pretty neat console in the process.

For the next week I'm going to remove my Wii U from my TV and put it in my bedroom walk-in closet and use it as my bedtime handheld. Something about Mass Effect as a portable game is cool.

Wow that thread got drowned out fast... instead of bumping it, I'll just take it as a sign that the gods of the forum care not... but maybe people in the actual Wii U threads might.

In summation: If you're having problems playing Online with AssCreed 3 (IE, it showing there are games, but not being able to connect to any) it may be a port forwarding problem, but since I'm not sure what port, just dumping the Wii U into your router's DMZ is probably the best/safest bet. Not sure if it effects any game besides AssCreed 3... but it might.

(edit) The port for x-box360 is 3074, not sure if it's the same for Wii U, my gamepad is dead so I can't test it right now. DMZ for sure works though if your router has the option.

Hate to self bump this, but I kind of put this post late last night and want to make sure a few more people see this. The same problem also apparently effects black ops 2.

So apparently, buddy of mine bought me a Wii U a few minutes. Picking it up tonight. No games though.

He got a Deluxe at launch with a bunch of games. Might borrow one until Friday when I get paid

Okay, so I'm in a store right now and they have the basic model Wii U in stock. I really want one. I know the white model has less memory- what does thy mean in a practical sense? And Nintendo Land aside, how much will I be hampering my experience by getting the basic model?

The extra memory is pretty much meaningless since retail games like AC3 etc. are over 10 GB. You lose out on the digital points program (you get $5 to use in the eshop for each $60 you spend). You don't get some plastic stands for the console and game pad. And, of course, you don't get NintendoLand. Depending on how much you want those things, it's not a big deal to get the cheaper model.

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.
With next month being Nintendo Direct month, any idea of what to expect on the WiiU-side? I would love to get some dates for Legends, Lego City, and Pikimin 3 along with seeing what in the world is going on with Japan developer support. A look at some 2013 WiiU-ware titles would be a nice bonus as well.

I'm hoping for at least one AAA 1st party announcement with stunning graphics. Maybe Yoshis Land?

Hail to the KING baby
It's great actually, and the Yoshi one is fun too.

A lot of the games are quite fun. My only wish for NL would be for a little more thought to have been put into it as an actual party game. The tour thing feels pretty slapped together. But even as a bunch of little demos it gives me hope for some pretty awesome party gaming on the U.

Didnt the reviews say it was mediocre?

There was one shitty review where the reviewer basically said the game is shit because it IS survival horror and not like the other FPS games.

I haven't played ZombiU yet, but WiiU-GAF seems to love it, GiantBomb quicklook and podcast impressions seemed great and some of the stuff I read on Twitter was pretty positive. I think for a launch game you can't go wrong with ZombiU and I'll hopefully get it soon enough.

Set mine up last night. The range on the gamepad seems to be absolutely terrible for me. I went one room over and it lost connection :(.

Mario is super fun. Took forever to dl the update.

Yay new consoles :D.

I want Nintendo Direct: December Edition now.

Even if there are no new announcements... Lego and Pikmin release dates will appease me.

sorry to hear you suck at it

I must suck at Call of Duty Vita too, because that game is awful as well. Damn my lack of gaming skills and my inability to play AAA games!

But yeah, opinions on this one are all over the place. Pay full price at your own peril, but know that it will be easy to flip for nearly full price if you don't like it. Unless you buy digital, and then you're skaroooood.

My remote lost contact 10 feet from the Wii U, and then resumed contact 50 feet away, but while it was 50 feet walking distance away, it was only about 11 feet away in a direct line from the Wii U downstairs to the Pad in the room directly above it upstairs. If it's in an entertainment center, you're cutting down on distance. I moved mine on top of the entertainment center and the distance improved by about 5-10 feet.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
So now that it's out in the US

Is it possible to transfer Wii WiiWare/VC/games and saves from 2 Wii consoles to 1 Wii U console?

If yes, are the saves transfered to separate Wii U user accounts?

Wii1 to Wii U account 1
Wii2 to Wii U account 2

Etc
Seems like no one once to answer that question, but it was assumed that it don't work with two Wii consoles.

Well I did it. Just walked into Toys R Us and pulled the trigger on a basic console, ZombiU and Mario. I told myself I didn't need one, but I never have enough willpower to not buy a new console right after launch. It was ZombiU that put me over though- that game appeals to me a lot from everything I've seen.

Really doubting my deluxe model right now after Vinny ripping on it on the Bombcast. Having zero actual progression would fucking kill any excitement i'd have playing these games. And seeing as how I will spend 99,9% of my gametime playing by myself I don't think that it's worth it anymore.

Thing is, it's pretty much the only game I was somewhat interested in, the rest of the launch lineup is pretty damn barren.

what is the story there with Basic and Premium sets?

Ordered the basic when they put it up for £199 during the September conference. Premium was obtained afterwards when news of people getting Amazon to honour cancelled pre-orders surfaced. Decided to keep both and give the basic to my nephew. What's annoying is I don't finish work till 1am tonight, so having to wait till then before I can fire them up.

Chances are Pikmin 3 was just held back to fill out the release line up. Not to make any improvements. Nintendo has done that before. The gamepad controls were iffy at E3 I believe. So hopefully they fixed those at least or had already addressed them. I doubt we'll get online. Leaderboards are likely the best we can expect if they did add something.

He just realized it has zero actual progression in the games. You play for 15 minutes and get bored and want to play something else, guess what, you're playing the exact same stuff again next time you boot it up. In most games there's no level select or progression.

It's my own damn fault for thinking there were actual real, full, single-player games in there instead of quirky score-a-thons. That coupled with the fact that it isn't all that fun to play by yourself and you've got a game I know I would get tired of within minutes, especially since streams and other footage have pretty much shown 90% of everything there is to do already.

I get that other people love that style of gameplay though, but i'm really not one of them.

I don't understand. Progression of what? Do you mean Nintendoland? If that's why you're buying the Deluxe, I wouldn't blame you for moving to the cheaper Wii U. After a few plays I'm done with Nintendoland. I'm just not a big mini-game collection gamer, and if I need to play a minigame there's far better ones on iPad/iPhone.

Does it do anything with the high score table, like track your previous scores, and those of others on the system? (And ideal friends but maybe that's pushing it for Nintendo)
