Didn't preorder this time. I plan to shop for Wii U on Friday morning. Definitely feeling the hype now and can't wait. I didn't expect this to happen, but I'm so eager to know if gaming in bed will work for me. There's a thick wall between living room and bedroom... please work!

At last resort, I could move the console, heh.

I think it's because they want to find reasons to complain and if they talked about Zombie U that they couldn't really do that (based on their prior conversations on that game). Nintendo was very upfront with what Nintendo Land is, people shouldn't be surprised and for what it is, it's pretty enjoyable. I just wish it was a free pack-in title.

Can't really defend the Wii U, I can find many negatives about it if asked but when you have a podcast it does not take much talk to put the fire under the small issues and blaze it up into bigger problems.

The fact that Wii U games take 20 minutes to load according to GiantBomb from that last podcast seems to point at the reason they did not bother with ZombiU.

I know the UI is pretty slow loading 60 seconds at most is annoying as hell right now but the way they talked about the system made me question how the core sees this platform and what will happen if devs and publishers start to exaggerate the weaknesses of Wii U. You go from an annoying 30-60 second wait to load a game, to calling it 20 minute load times on a podcast where gamers are waiting to be feed info. A healthy number of Gaffers still went on to pick up a Wii U regardless of the negatives of the past week.

I have to wonder why they even bother talking about the thing if they can't keep the bullshit out and be more objective about giving feedback. There are plenty of negatives about the Wii U you can discuss honestly without the need for troll level exaggerations.

I'll need information on games I have never really played like TEKKEN (Giantbomb quicklooks are awesome for that). But for a Nintendo platform it seems it will be hard to find feedback without subjective feelings about Nintendo being included.

My order from the hut (yeah I know) has dispatched! Seems they have sent the console by courier even though I asked for free delivery. They have however sent Mario separately with Royal Mail, so it might arrive later.. I'm glad I bought the premium with Nintendo Land

I really wish Nintendo would've put a button on the controller that would allow easy switching between the TV and gamepad.

How does one play Wii games on a Wii U? Let's say for example I wanted to play Xenoblade. If I got a hold of a copy of Xenoblade, could I use the Wii U pad to play it, or would I have to buy a classic controller for Wii or a Wiimote?

Yes. You need Wii hardware for Wii games. You cannot use the Gamepad or new Pro Controller.

Need a Wiimote/Classic Controller. Can't use the GamePad in Wii Mode.

Wii games run in "Wii Mode" which is just 100% Wii Emulation with no extras. No rendering in HD, no support for Wii U peripherals and only 512 mb of space. So yeah, you can't use the Pad.

I wonder if someone could help me out with some Wii U questions. My brother wants to buy a Wii U for his kids and had some questions:

- would you opt for a Wii or Wii U? Can all Wii games by played without any problem? Are there enough Wii U launch titles for kids?
- can i attach the Wii U to an old crt tv (i read on wiki that the european models do indeed have a scart cable option)
- if the kids want to play together, what sort of controllers do they need. I've been reading that you can't buy a standalone gamepad yet because no games are out yet that support two gamepads. Does that mean that there are no multiplayer games yet or do you have to use gamepad + classic controller in that case.
- worth getting the deluxe set (50 euro more in EU)?
- is the gamepad comfortable for small children hands?
- i assume you can play on gamepad without television?

I'd be great to have some feedback. I know most questions can probably be found online but some can probably be answered better by people with hands-on impressions (who have already bought the console in the us).

Got our European systems today! Took one home, obviously, and have just finished setting it up, which was painless. Too bad that I can't update it yet, guess that will be on Friday? Or perhaps tomorrow if we're lucky? Have NSMB, Nintendoland and ZombiU to play with in the mean time!

Oh, and perhaps a stupid question: my tv (Pioneer PDP-507XA) supports 720p and 1080i. Which should I use in the settings for WiiU? 720p looked a little nicer to me in the menu, but that was just text.

how is the os when you're offline? is it still laggy and slow?

any hard locks yet as reported by the us beta testers?

I agree, it should be standardized. Right now all the games do it differently. Sonic Racing tells you once how to do it, but if you blink you miss the instructions (swipe down to move the game to the pad, swipe up to move it back), and I believe on ME3 you have to hold down select to move the game to the pad. Whereas NSMBU simply streams both screens at the same time.

Use the native res of your TV. Just make sure the TV isn't cutting off large chunks of the screen. Seems to be a common issue (overscan).

It takes a few seconds to open programs, but I have no idea how it is in comparison to how the US systems were. No lag of any kind when pushing buttons or using the touchscreen. No locks or bugs so far. I've tinkered around in all the available programs, but there aren't many of them now before the big update. Haven't used it with games yet - that comes after dinner!

- Wii U should play all Wii games just fine on Wii Mode you just need all the controllers that a game may need

- not in EU so can't say

- for kids to play together you can have up to 5 players in most multiplayer games - 1 gamepad + up to 4 Wiimote (plus) - or a mix bag of pro controllers / wiimotes

- Deluxe if you are going to be downloading games from eShop but both will require an HDD years down the line.

- Gamepad should be okay for small hands this is Nintendo's major target after all

- there is a thread that list the games you can play on gamepad without the TV most games feature it. But other games like Nintendo Land and ZombiU use both Screens a lot so you cannot play off tv. I would say the list is over 20 games http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=499720

I'm about 5 hrs into AC3 on 360, and want to switch to WiiU. Is there a way to download a save file and pick up where I am?

there are many savefile download websites out there I am not sure if they would have Wii U save files just now.
to be honest without the SD and formatting the HDD I am not sure how you'll transfer the Save File to you Wii U. I'd like to see this.

5 hours in is not too long unless you have 100% sync on all your quests so far and don't want to replay the areas

Yeah at 6 hours I was still in the Tutorial :)

Thanks. The native resolution of the tv is 1366x768... isn't that somewhere between 720p and 1080i?

I'm surprised the Wii U didn't detect the native res for you. If it did, just use that. If you don't like how it looks (1080i), force it to only output 720p. It wont hurt anything. Just make sure overscan isn't a problem. You'll know if it is when you go into the browser or Miiverse and look at the image on the TV. If you see less on the TV than you see on the pad, there's an issue.

I don't think so. It would be nice if Uplay could sync it across platforms though.

Went to bed yesterday and wanted to try OTVP with Nintendo Land when I realized that it does not support the feature. But you can for example play DK crash course without turning on the TV. One thing I found shocking was how hard you have to push the headphone plug in for it to fully connect to the GamePad. At first I thought that the audio port was broken, but after some tries I managed to connect it with an audible click.

derFeef, did you happen to got to Kastner today? A Wii U pro was supposed to be there to explain all the stuff :D

Yeah at 6 hours I was still in the Tutorial :)

I just saw he said 5 hours in... not sure why 6 was on my mind. I am 6 hours into Skyward Swords but when I started AC3 the world just sucked me in really fast. I suck at getting the bonus objectives down so my missions end with a lot of red x :(

but exploring have wasted a lot of time. I am at the point of the Ship still without my suit

I bought Mighty Switch Force on the E-Shop, and it tells me it's downloaded. Can't seem to see how to access it though- it doesn't appear on the 'channel' menu anywhere.

Anyone have any insight?

thanks for the feedback. I hope we don't suffer the same lock up issues that have plagued some us users.

only one day left. I can't believe the day is nearly here. a new console launch. there's nothing quite like it. the excitement, the apprehension of if it will work out of the box, the wonder of playing with new hardware and os and games.

My amazon.de deluxe will be shipping shortly, means I'll get it tomorrow (prime member).

Yeaahh *fistpump*

Mine went from "Versand in Kürze" to "Ihre Bestellung wurde versand" on 5pm. standard shipping and most of the time it arrives the next day, so I got my hopes up :)
Hopefully I'll be able to download the eshop by then, I plan on getting NSBMU and Sonic Racing as dd.

- would you opt for a Wii or Wii U? Can all Wii games by played without any problem? Are there enough Wii U launch titles for kids?
I'd opt for a Wii U if the price is not a big problem to him. As for kid-compatible launch games: New Super Mario Bros. U, Sonic All-Stars Racing transformed, Skylanders, Micky Epic 2 and Nintendoland come to mind, although Micky Epic 2 is said to be a bad port job. Wii games can be played without a problem but you can't play using a GameCube Controller. Seeing as we are talking kids, they most likely don't have GameCube controllers anyway, so that's not a big point.

- can i attach the Wii U to an old crt tv (i read on wiki that the european models do indeed have a scart cable option)
Yes, but you will need to buy a cable for that.
- if the kids want to play together, what sort of controllers do they need. I've been reading that you can't buy a standalone gamepad yet because no games are out yet that support two gamepads. Buying Wiimote and Nunchuk is a must, not just for multiplayer, but also to access the vast library of the Wii. A Pro Controller can't hurt either for multiplayer purposes.
- worth getting the deluxe set (50 euro more in EU)?
If the kids like to play Nintendoland... yes. Other than that I guess no, because I doubt they'll go digital on their Wii U
- is the gamepad comfortable for small children hands?
Yes.

- i assume you can play on gamepad without television?
If the game supports it.

mine didn't + i got standard shipping. sucks...
Well I did order back in August but usually Amazon doesn't really care for that - guess I'm just lucky.

Early Wii U GAFers unite! Just 1 day but beggars can't be choosers. Hope everything goes live tomorrow midnight the latest.

I'm seriously considering trading my deluxe unit for a basic, it's used obviously but maybe someone has a used basic and they would like a deluxe. I wouldn't even charge any extra for it, it would be a literal swap. Reason? I prefer the white over black and memory wise I'll be getting an external drive anyway, so I see no real incentive for me personally to hang onto the deluxe, other than what I'm bringing up in my question: if I did that, would it be impossible for me to get my VC games over to it?
