Trying to stream mp4's from the PC to the gamepad, but when I enter my IP address it doesn't bring up the files but rather to my router login page?

yes I am dumb about this stuff.
You have set an http server on the PC?

Which IP did you used, the local network IP of the PC, or your external, public IP?

Have you forwarded the 80 port to you PC in the router configuration?

can we install the homebrew channel on the wii u's wii channel?

Not yet, Marcan has shown a proof of concept of him installing the homebrew channel on Wii U's wii mode, but he hasn't even stated whether he plans to release it in large, or if he wants to wait until he has a more substantial Wii U hack available.

Sounds like you're putting your router's IP instead of your own computer's IP. If you're using Windows, open up cmd.exe and run ipconfig to see your computer's LAN IP.

I figured it was something like that, does it have to be 10 digits?

You're looking for this:

It can have between 4 and 12 digits, but always 4 quads.

I still need the answer for the skyward sword patch. Does it work for Wii U? I have no working wii remote(motion plus) so I cant check. Thanks.

I just picked up Skyward Sword. What is this patch? Where do I get it?

The glitch rarely happens to people. If you really want to know when it occurs and how to avoid it, send a PM and I'll try to help while spoiling as little as possible.

Got my wii u but got an error with the update.

Not sure but think it started either another update later or the same one since it jumped to 80% and got to 100 relatively quickly.

Now it's downloading the COD update.

The WiiU pad is supercomfy to hold.

Can't wait to try the first game out.

Wooo and it's done. time to play

Sorry... I'll try differently...

For a PC file to be available to another device, you need a software that will make the files available over the network. A HTTP server of some sort. You'll probably need to install an run something on your PC (I have an apache server on my Linux box, I don't really know what is the best solution to run on a normal PC).

The aforementioned software will make the files in its "public" folder available to devices that tries to connect to the PC with everything right. To connect to the PC successfully, you need two things :

* the IP adress of the PC (think as an telephone number), which is something like 43.54.184.232 (four numbers between 0 and 255 with points inbetween)

* the "port" used by the software, a single number like 80

Problem is, there's a lot of IP adresses in your network. You have an IP adress for people outside your house, it's the "public" IP adress of your router.

Assuming that several devices at your house can connect to the internet at the same time, there's also an IP for EACH device in your house, including the router itself: the Wii U, the PC, sometimes your ethernet printer, your internet-clock, your DS, your blu-ray player or your fridge (if you have a very modern fridge ^_^) Most of the time, it's a 10.xxx.xxx.xxx or 192.168.xxx.xxx (those are IPs for local usage in your home)

Thus, you need to discover the IP of your PC. Launch a command windows, and type ipconfig and look for the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx number on the "IPv4" line (I just hope you won't find two or three of them, that can happen...) The gateway line gives probably you your local router adress, btw.

Then, you can try putting "http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" in your Wii U browser.

That will work IF THE PORT USED BY YOUR SOFTWARE ON PC IS 80. That's unfortunately not always the case, and maybe you'll have to read the documentation. Sometimes, it's 8080, and you need to type "http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080"

I hope this help, but it's difficult to explain all the details of network managment in a couple of lines with simple explanations... That's the reason why they developped DNLA: to avoid people having to dig this kind of data. Unfortunately, even DNLA isn't always working easily.

I read there are two places to add friends, and one of them means your friends won't get the request, is that right?

Send all requests from Miiverse -- search for the user you want to add and go to their profile. Requesting directly from the Friend List is bugged atm.

You can look for your friend in the miiverse and send a request, or add its name in your list and wait for him to do the same (but he won't receive a request in this second solution), if I'm not mistaken.

But I'd like to be able to check myself. Just ~3 more hours of firmware downloading T_T

(btw, I officially hate people that managed to download the update in a single hour tonight ^_^ Where do you live?)

I'm actually not sure if he's parodying Doritosgate or genuinely loves the Wii U that much

He likes it, he's the passionate kind of guy. I understand what he sees in the console though, like I've said a few days ago, it really shines when you are playing with somebody else in the room, even in the case of single player games.

It's a patch that fixes a game ending glitch some people experienced. I'm not sure exactly how the patch works but it involves downloading an app from the Wii store. I'm pretty sure that app is still on the Wii U version of the Wii store for download.

Okay, there's something I'd like to clear out.

Just bought a 20$ card to buy Nano Assault.

They charged me $3 for taxes.

I go home, buy the game, GET TAXED AGAIN.

So...was the store I bought it from not supposed to apply taxes to it? I'll go get my $3 back and inform them that what they're doing is wrong.

I downloaded the update in just about an hour. Shitty 2mb/s DSL connection. South England.

It WAS at 9am this morning though. Maybe the servers weren't being hammered much at that time.

Holy shit is Nintendoland awful.

It's worse than I expected! Nintendo have missed the point of all the advantages of home console gaming.

F-zero is a glorfied iPad racer. Why the hell would I want to play a console HD racer with tablet style motion controls and a shitty 6" screen. I've got a massive HD TV going to waste you CUNTS!

I give up, this shit is getting traded in the morning. I'm not even going to play the other games before they really offend me. Nintendo...you have officially raped my childhood.

What the hell is the TV for if you constantly force us to use the shit screen. They're just trying to justify their bad idea.

The UI is also totally broken and overly complex with too many rules on what control you can use. This really is an abortion of a console. FUCK DIS SHIT! I've opened the box now so can't sell it on for what I paid.

I need to lay down. I've been mentally raped by Nintendo. FUCK ME! I've never been so dissapointed in a console, I wanted Nintendo to blow me away! Their online and system integration is worse than what Sony had in 2006....this shit uses 1GB of RAM to run? FUCK ME!

I need to go lay down.

Probably. That's why I was saying "tonight"... At 9am, most probably very few people were downloading the patch. I'm over an ADSL connexion, and while it's not a great one (a bit far from the DSLAM, but I'm still able to manage quite decent bitrates), it's very far from being used 100% at the moment.

Just got my first error... At least, it's resuming the download, not starting again from scratch...

I'm probably being really dense here but is there a club Nintendo code with the Wii U. I've got the card but there's no code on it!

*U is updating*

Sorry if this already has been answered, but I didn't see it on the next couple of pages.

The system itself registers automatically when you link your NNID to your club Nintendo account.
You do need to manually register the points on Nintendo.co.uk, or whatever site you use from the country you're in.
Just go to the club Nintendo page, select my account and then go to my registered games and systems.
There you'll find the Wii U and a button to collect your 1000 points.

I had the Virgin media problem with connecting my Wii U to the internet.

My workaround was to use Connectify on my laptop to create a hotspot sharing my Virgin media connection, and connect the Wii U via the laptop.

This works fine for the time being. (until a better solution is found.)

Yeh I was confused about that as well but my nearly 10 year old account is linked now. Club Nintendo is the best thing Nintendo ever did!

Tried to register a NNID but now the gamepad just displays the blue circle in the bottom right corner. Since I received the email I suppose the registration is completed and I may just turn the wiiu off to reboot?

Let's try to keep port-forwarding out of the equation as it's already a lot of new information. What you need is some sort of filesharing service that will allow you to connect to your computer via http as mentioned above, but you just need your local IP address, which is the one you'll find by pressing win+r -> write "cmd" -> write "ipconfig".

So don't worry about the public and local address thing.

Also, I'm enjoying the Wii U! I actually haven't been bothered by the long load times, even though I acknowledge their existence. Add me if you want to! My nick is Articate

Where do you live? In the US at least if you buy a gift card (which that essentially is) you don't pay any sales tax. You pay $20 for a card with $20 on it. When you make an actually purchase with that card, then you are charged tax.

I stand by every word.

The Wii was like a sexual assault on hardcore Nintendo fans. Wii-U is a full on train :-(

I'd trade the game in too if it only had the F Zero racing mini game. Be a man, play DK crash course and beat my 45 seconds speedrun!

"I need to lay down" really is just the nail in the coffin.

Is there a community thread for sharing nicks or anything? I want some actual people in my friends list for once on a console. And not just people I helped beat bosses for in Dark Souls and Demon's Souls, which is like everyone on my PS3 friend list :p (add me! Articate)
