I'm sure someone has already mentioned this, but I'm here in Ireland with a European Wii U, and there's a TVii icon on my gamepad, despite the fact that the service was only ever announced for the US. A sign that it's coming across the atlantic, perhaps?

unfortunately, you can't. once you start the update, you can't cancel it.

:(

Can you cut the sound ? After 2h (33%, yeah...), it's getting annoying ^_^

There is a sound slider near the R button and the stylus slot.

OMG I unplugged the power supply because I didn't wanted to wait for hours for a stupid update. And now my Wii U doesn't display anything when I turn it on :(

on the gamepad? there's a volume control on the top of the pad. you don't have to leave it on that channel either, boot up your 360 or ps3 if you have one and keep yourself busy while it updates. check the gamepad every few mins to make sure the update is progressing and hasn't failed or encountered a error.

Just bought the Zombi U bundle and NSMBU and Black ops 2 at mediamarkt. They have 2nd wii u game half price when you purchase the Wii U.

Now I'm all set for the coming months.

Thanks to you both. I had somehow missed it, I was thinking that the volume control would be a software one (actually, I saw it when I thought I could plug headphones a couple of minutes after posting).

I'm doing exactly that. Crossing fingers for avoiding a power cut (in winter, I'm sometimes experiencing them when all heaters are powering up at the same time, I hope I've turned down enough devices)

Someone needs to clarify the audio situation for me. Since there are two seperate audio feeds, one for the gamepad and one for the console, how can you get both while playing with headphones?

i've been trying to find this out, it sounds like the only way is to play stuff on the gamepad screen mode, otherwise the gamepad headphones only get the gamepad sound. which seems crazy.

Got my wii u.

1) Got it from amazon and it never came with a nintendo land disc. Got a download code! I'm going to write to nintendo for a disc.

2) keep getting an error when trying to update :/

why would you do that? I know the update is maddening and excruciatingly slow, but you really should have waited it out.

I hate to say it, but I think you may have bricked your system. don't take my word for it though, see if there's any info out there on what to do in the vent of unplugging during the update.

It's easy to miss. I didn't notice it until I went looking for the stylus.

good luck, the update can take a long time, but don't unplug it from the mains. you'll risk bricking the console.

Dude, it's alright. You don't have to ask me all those questions. I don't have the answers. I didn't say you'd have to buy a Wii remote. I figured you were playing with one because you play alone and without needing the display of the gamepad. That was my situation. I didn't even consider that you might not have a Wii remote. But yes, you are right, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to just use the pad without the screen on. Even worse in my opinion is the fact that you can't play a two player game with one gamepad and one remote. You *need* to have two remotes. That's just fucking stupid. There's really no reason why it has to be like that and the gamepad suddenly becomes useless once you add another player.

Sorry I'm just venting buddy. I'm just disappointed :(

Yeah I think that's true. If they can't make this a system-wide thing to force all audio through the GamePad speakers, I hope devs will implement this option game-by-game, because it's handy.

The gamepad is amazing. So comfortable to hold. The d-pad, the face buttons, the triggers feel awesome. Way better than 3DS. The screen smooths the graphics a lot, you lose color but I guess you only notice it if you compare directly to the TV.
My touchscreen is a bit bumpy, not flat. Anyone else?

Just noticed that my Wii U game cases are proper DVD cases, not those shitty eco-cases the Americans have.

Thank you, NOE!!

Anybody else think the menus with icons (Wii U Menu, and the menu when you press Home) look pretty crappy? The UI looks almost amateur, which is odd coming from Nintendo. Wii's looked more professional imo.

Hm. I think the whole OS gels incredibly well together, and it all looks very slick and tidy.

If only it was a bit faster...

have you tried resubmitting your Mii?

I can't get a Mii to look like me so over the past week I have been changing my Mii every few days moving the eyes changing the nose, changing color and just resubmit it. Some times it takes a few loads of Miiverse for the new Mii to show up to take the spot of the old one.

all you do is go home to Wii U Menu where your apps and games are click your Mii Photo
now under the photo click User Settings > View/Modify just keep following that until find the "Change Mii" button > Edit User Mii (make a little shirt color change to test it) hit next until you can hit the REGISTER Crown this is the page you can change the shirt color. Hit the Crown. You are done. Wait for Miiverse to load the new one. If this does not work something is up with the code some changes are going on.

Doesn't work! Created a new Mii manually and changed the features multiple times. What the heck..

From the quick play around I had before the update started...I thought the UI didn't look as good as the Wii UI...looked like the 3DS crap blown up? I was really impressed with the Wii stuff when I first used it.

Eitherway, first impressions were not good. PS3 and 360 seem more next gen :-(

Gets worse! My update just failed! WTF!

If you're refusing to get Mario U because of motion controls, you are so fundamentally against slightly moving your hands in two stages near the end that I am shocked you can pick up the controller at all.

if it is only used sparingly, then add a button option so pro cintrollers can be supported. or, as they are 'pro', include bloody motion sensors in them.

edit: almost wish i'd not got a nintendoland disc, would have much preferred it digitally.

It was displaying "downloading" not "updating" :( I know it's stupid, I shuold have waited, but damn, the status bar was only filled at 5% after 15 minutes. At this rate I would have had to let it update the whole night. According to google, my console is bricked and I may have to send it back. I guess I'll just go to my retailer to replace my console that "never worked".

I understand the frustration, but as with most updates / downloads that relate to firmware, you can't turn off the console and expect it nor to brick.

I hope you're able to get a new unit, just remember that the update is going to take a long time to download and install. doing it overnight is probably the best thing.

I love this console! Almost everything about it makes me smile, the Pikmins when you transfer the Wii stuff, the Miis on the OS screen, the cheery tunes, the Gamepad, having a second screen, the TV remote functionality, etc. It just oozes Nintendo playfulness. Love it! :)))

Download speeds are hideous though...

And not being able to play VC games on the Gamepad is going to annoy me for quite some time. Missed opportunity for sure.

But so far it's been waaay better than all the cranky people around here has led me to believe.

Don't worry, I won't. I have so many bad memories of flashing back in the 90s that I'm scared each time. I wouldn't even do an update at night, usually (to avoid any power outage), but I don't want to wait for tomorrow this time.

That's unfortunate for RockmanWhore, though, if it's indeed bricked. I don't understand why a failure in *download* could lead to a brick console. There's a BIG problem somewhere.

(Should I want to stop the download, I would probably cut the Wifi or Internet and wait for a "download interrupted" on the console rather than remove the power, anyway)

It's probably different for Europe, but here it only took about 45-60 minutes for mine to download and like 4-5 minutes to install. But still, I'm vary wary of stuff like this. I don't want to risk anything.

ok guys...I'm feeling like an utter dumbass but this UI is the non intuitive UI i've ever used.

How do flipping control whats on the TV screen? I don't want to be looking at a crap washout screen all the time, I want to control whats on my TV.

Don't tell me Nintendo has pulled a skyward sword angle and is forcing us to ignore our HD big screen TVs??

push x...or y i can't remember

I'm not sure if I should get a Wii U. I would mainly buy it for future games. Any reason to wait instead of buying now?

if you wait, you won't have a wii u but you'll have more money. if you buy it now then you'll have a wii u but less money

If it doesn't have (m)any games you want to play right now, why wouldn't you wait? Might as well wait until it's got stuff you want, and there could be a deal or something later on.

Trying to stream mp4's from the PC to the gamepad, but when I enter my IP address it doesn't bring up the files but rather to my router login page?

yes I am dumb about this stuff.

When and where?

The Wii U was launched this morning, and most people are probably doing the update when going back to home in the evening. That's probably the worse time possible for an update in Europe.

3h for 45%, and it seems to slow down a little bit (estimation at this rate is over 6h30, not the initial 5h30)

And I'm pretty sure there'll be a second one in a couple of weeks...

Sounds like you're putting your router's IP instead of your own computer's IP. If you're using Windows, open up cmd.exe and run ipconfig to see your computer's LAN IP.
