PS4 has 8 GB OF GDDR5 RAM

LOL at those calling for a $699 price. Come on.

ahhahahaa sorry but those are pretty funny estimates. Anyway my guess is STILL 399/499. BUT after learning of 8gb I could see it being 449/499 or slightly less.

This thing absolutely positively will not and cannot go above 500. Don't need to be an expert businessman to know that.
Nor do I think Sony would be that stupid.

That price cost them over half their prior marketshare and leadership of the industry.

helllloooooooooooooooooooo

where are you my haters. i said 8 gig RAM and you said i am a lunatic a troll

Now whos right?????

I expect an apology from everyone who PMed me slurs

PS4 unveiling tonight presented a possible crow extinction event.

PC Gaf has got to be shaking in their boots lolz, this machine has a larger amount of GDDR5 RAM than all of their available singular non SLIed/crossfired graphics cards lol, although it may yet be slower than your garden variety GTX 680. Even the upcoming NVIDIA Titan won't have 8 GB GDDR5 RAM lol.

How the hell are they gonna port their games to PC? Will we be seeing 8 GB RAM minimum for system requirements for pc ports? Motherboards don't even support onboard DDR4 RAM yet and DDR5 is still being finalized by JEDEC lol.

Kudos to Sony, you've made PC GAF very very envious and jealous today lol.

You are way off base. As a PC gamer this news makes me very excited. Better consoles = better PC games.

The lack of Deep Down gifs is disappointing. It was clearly the best looking thing in the show.

Current gen corridor simulation has evolved into cave simulation. Not as impressive due to the small scope shown in the trailer, but I agree it was one of the best looking for sure.

Also where are people getting this PS4 pricing? Titan is sold for good profit and is more than just a DDR5 chip. I assume Sony will do a deal and manage to get it for cheaper and then also sell PS4 for a loss (why stop now I guess).

That is really impressive.

Lots of egg on the faces of certain "insiders" who insisted that 8 gigs wasn't happening.

I do, however, fear for the price.

The HDD is the last thing holding the system back, I wonder if could they do a 449/499 HDD model and a 549/599 model with an SSD. An SSD would certainly help with the write times for that record feature.

Ridiculous. Easily a generational leap right here and it's only going to get better. Guerilla's next game after Shadow Fall will probably blow this away, plus whatever the God of War and Uncharted/Last of Us teams cook up.

So excited for this machine.

RAM is one of the most important things you can have for true open world games. Both amount and speed, which 8GB of GDDR5 more than provides in both categories.

The real question is if 720 has a lot less than this, will games be developed with the lowest common denominator in mind or will they actually take advantage of Sony's RAM?
Of course they will be developed with the lowest common denominator in mind. Which is why even fanboys should hope for Microsoft to match Sony in the ram department here so we don't get gimped third party titles. We have seen a bit of that this gen with optical drive storage capacity and the 360 not having blu-ray. How many third party titles actually use close to a 25GB blu-ray disc?

Yeah, I'll admit I fucking spit my water out when I heard Cerny say 8GB of RAM. I then wondered if they were really going to go with DDR3, but then he said GDDR5 and I just sat here stunned.

That was completely out of the blue. I was pretty sure it was going to be 4GB after all the leaks and rumours, but wow. That was shocking.

My biggest concern is the pricing now... I have a feeling Sony will puff out the chest and launch at $499 (especially if the camera does come included with the machine). It has to be $399 or less. I just can't see them being able to go out after the PS3 humiliation and seriously tell everyone that it will be that price.

And just like that the Wii U's chance for receiving next gen 3rd party ports just faded to nil. It was nice knowing you Nintendo.

8 times the available RAM in comparison... 176 GB/s unified memory bandwidth...

Games will most likely not be using 8GB of video ram from the start. The amount is amazing because it's there for future proofing. SLI/Crossfire doesn't add up multiple GPU's amount of memory.

If you were just trying to catch people with a troll though, this will probably work on someone, yeah.

personally i rather them go with a (relatively) small hdd, so we can buy our own so we dont have to overpay for it and get bigger sizes at better prices.

I gotta say I'm really really surprised.
I've been back to PC gaming the last couple years due to finding MS's vision for xbox just not palatable.
I've never owned a Sony System..I just might get a PS4

PS4 unveiling tonight presented a possible crow extinction event.

dude this is just sad.

i was buffed by almost everyone . almost all companies release info to their big investors prior to any reveal or any announcement

now what if i tell everyone that MS showed next box and almost every investor was unimpressed. Now they are planning to change specs even with a 6 months delay???

you all saw KZ PS4...now show me something that impressive on PC

Whats the difference between DDR5 ram and GDDR5 ram?

And what pcs these days have 8gb of GDDR5 ram? None?

DDR5 ram only exists at some point in the future.

And the only PCs with 8GB of GDDR5 in will have 2 graphics cards with 4GB+ each. No cheap gaming machines.

I did not PM you, but I did question your record as to the information in the thread.

You were correct.

LOL, gamers these days don't buy consoles for their games, but for the amount of ram.

8 gigs is a lot, I have to say, but will it be cheap? Is it even possible that the console launches under 500?

Do MOST developers (all of Japan included) really need that much ram? Japanese devs even had problems to utilize the PS3's hardware, so you really think they will spend 100 Million for photorealistic games?

In that scenario you are probably looking at the PS4 (oh, I get giddy just typing that) version of games having higher resolution textures, potentially a higher framerate, than the 720 counterparts.

100%.
That much fast RAM is a godsend for pushing PCs and vice versa. Very impressed that Sony is managing to get that much in the box. Can't wait to see how they did it.

I'm just glad it will have wireless N. Can't believe that the new ps3 models don't have wireless N. If they did, I probably would have bought a second ps3.

Did you see Square Enix and Capcom's presentations, focused primarily on graphical fidelity?

just a thought:

PS1 = 2MB
PS2 = 32MB
PS3 = 256MB
PS4 = 8GB
PS5... 64GB?!

I still can't believe PS4 will have 8GB... this is sony's gift for next-gen and will benefit a lot of games.

?????????

Is the same gonna be true for PS4 though?

I mean past PlayStation systems have used custom hardware. Are we going to really see that generational jump throughout the life cycle continue like you displayed above for the PS3 or will the "power be unlocked" much quicker for the PS4 than previous Sony systems?
