Rebuttal:
1. "playing "follow the leader" with everything do" - Microsoft blazed trails in the area of console online gaming and the kinect camera while supporting a number of AAA first party games. In relation Sony copied the Wii mote almost exactly and now looks to try and do the same with their own Kinect camera.
2. "Microsoft has to much focus on the broader audience" - So, by your point, Microsoft willingness to cater to all types of audiences with their entertainment and their games that appeal to all types of gamers makes their system less of a gaming machine?
3. "too many services, too many ads - This one baffles me. A company provides its customer with more service and the customer throws a fit. You need to stop looking at this situation as a balancing act. The addition of more services does not mean the subtraction of another (i.e. gaming). Also, stop complaining about the ads. The ads help sales of XBLA games and helps smaller developers (i.e. Trials, Dust, Minecraft, etc.) They do not hurt you in any way.
4. "They'll bust out 2 or 3 game reveals" - A lot like the Sony Conference?
Spot-on Trip,
The moral of the story is if Microsoft is clearly doing anything that is clearly successful, even when other consoles have used the same approach for years, it will be demonized for that reason alone.
You can watch the double standard ooze from this thread alone.
But, that's when you know MS is doing exactly what they should.
The numbers dont lie, MS simply needs to improve and innovate in the areas that have made the 360 extremely successful in the regions where they have the biggest impact.
You can't name one game that has been shown on a Sony stage all the way through that has effected the success of any of Microsofts biggest core franchises.
Kinect was hated on from the day it was announced, but no matter what Sony or Nintendo has done in the last 2 years, it hasn't deterred what it meant to the success of the 360 hardware and software wise since its release.
Xbox Live hasn't been free for an entire gen, but it hasn't stopped Live from being one of the biggest reasons MS has had the impact it has from hardware to software sales.
MS is wise to sure up 3rd party partnerships as that MS E3 stage garners way more attention for games worldwide than some of the individual companies that dont get as much press.
What we saw is Sony's last two conferences commit the cardinal sins that Sony's fans have still to this day bagged on MS for. Which if you simply reread the this entire thread as a sample shows that It had nothing to do with the conference and everything to do with the preference.
Sony's fans are happy with what was shown so far, and now MS simply needs to show its true fans that spend hours and hours a day on Xbox Live why they need to upgrade to next gen.
