Adam Sessler"Titan Fall one of the Most Enjoyable things I've played at a Convention"

Sessler has become a microsoft fanboy, just look at his youtube channel in the past 7 months. Everything is a spin for microsoft. E3 was the biggest joke, he said everyone who wants a ps4 just wait microsoft has some good ideas. Then doing the gamescon ps4 presser he tweeted "no mention of gaikai" really? they said expect it next year. He just had to bring something negative to sony. I have no respect for someone who is probably getting paid by a company. He even went on that microsoft trip I saw him tweeting about. I see no Sony or Nintendo spins from him thus I unfollow. What a weird thing that his number one game is Titanfall which is an xbox one exclusive for consoles. He has turned into Major Nelson jr.
You're embarrassing yourself.

So CoD:Ghosts, BF 4, Watch Dogs won't sell PS4/X1s? Guess everyone's only super stoked for Knack and Killer Instinct. Or maybe some people want the next gen console version of games.

besides this holiday where those millions of people who have long decided they were going to buy a next gen console before the games were even announced, no I don't. Out of the 70 million + that bought a 360/ps3. a fraction of those might find that appealing which are a lot of people but what really moves consoles is games you can't buy anywhere else.

Six years ago if I wanted to play GTA IV, Assassin's Creed, Modern Warfare, Bioshock I had to buy a next gen console. Right now it's launch so they could get away with it now, buy next year if I could still play the biggest third party games on current gen consoles both Sony and MS are in serious trouble.

And you will be able to....2015 will probably be the transition year with no PS360 releases for the majority of big name third party titles.

Because I'm not really sure what saying I'm waiting for the PS4 version actually adds to these threads?

It helps diminish the Xbone, of course!

I think GAF remains a forum that is disproportionately focused on graphically impressive, single player, story driven games. Not everyone, mind you (for example, not me), but a larger portion than is present in the gaming populace generally.

The gradual, relentless encroachment of casual gaming (and associated antiquated graphics), alternative input methods (not just Wii and Kinect, but iPhone/Android also), and the focus on social gaming and multiplayer is simply foreign and unappealing to a lot of members on this forum.

That is neither criticism nor praise; it is simply an observation. Everyone is welcome to their own gaming tastes.

I'd agree with this, with the addendum that not only alternative/casual gaming but gameplay-focused games are anathema to this group. If a game doesn't have a major focus on presentation or story, but instead focuses on gameplay almost entirely, it doesn't matter if it's single-player, "hardcore" or anything else.

people hating on it are probably thinking its going to end up being a re-skinned COD (b/c of whose developing it).

granted i haven't played it yet...but the gameplay videos look really fun. and the hands on impressions seem to reflect that.

They're thinking that because it genuinely does look like a re-skinned CoD w/ mechs/jetpacks.

The gunplay looks exactly the same as a CoD title.

So Sessler likes the game because it feels fresh because there's still things to discover and it doesn't feel like anyone has the upper hand from having memorized the maps...which makes sense since he and just about any one else has only had one session or so with the game. Well, I'm convinced.

I'm sure Titanfall will at least be a very solid MP experience, but his rationale was hardly compelling.

Bolded the important part.

If what you say was true then we wouldn't have single player campaigns in COD. Thats a whole lot of work being done for an audience that you don't seem to think exists. And as one of that audience, who has played the premiere single player campaigns of COD since COD1, I don't really enjoy having my preferences marginalized because the fourth game in the series hit it big with the multiplayer community. But it seems to happen in every shooter thread.

Obviously the audience exists and they should still be catered to, but I doubt lack of single player is going to affect Titanfalls chances of becoming a huge series.

Probably because it's easier for most gamers to articulate why a texture or model is good or bad than a set of mechanics or choices made by the designer(s). I don't know if it's because they don't care enough about that aspect of games or if they are genuinely incapable of doing so because of lack of experience, vocabulary or something else.

I have to say that the backlash against this game is disappointing, if predictable given everything we know about it. I think it's exerting a pernicious effect on discussion around the game for each thread about it to he filled with people claiming the hype must be manufactured because they're not interested.

Sessler isn't a huge multiplayer guy. He enjoys being able to pick up a game and not have to suffer for not having a load of unlocks or dealing with overwhelmingly one-sided matches.

Not many games favor a balance and 'casual-friendly' playstyle. Even CoD isn't friendly in that aspect online with the killstreak system and with the way spawns are handled (up to Black Ops anyways).

Thanks for saving me the time of having to type that out.

This almost feels like a video that was put out as quickly as possible and just for views. I say that might be the case because his comments in the video are weird and shallow that it almost seems like he didn't think about what he was going to say in the video before they shot it.

They just did the Bill 'Rilley... "DO IT LIVE!!!"

I didn't get to play it at E3 but it looked fun as hell. Sounds like Sessler's reaction is a testament to how satisfying it is to pick up and play.

I value Sessler's opinion more than almost anybody else in the industry, so this gets me even more hyped for Titanfall. The dude is wicked smart, always looks at both sides of the coin, and values new and exciting ideas over everything else. The way he has handled both Microsoft and Sony over the past few months has been excellent too, taking time to map out the pros and cons of both systems and not jumping instantly to one extreme or the other.

I'm aboard the hype train. Thanks for the impressions, Sess.

Nope. Because it is missing key part - single player story mode.

SP mode in most fps shooters like CoD or even Battlefield these days. I do not care about it since everyone buys these games to play multiplayer day one,did the same thing with BF3,never touched the singleplayer and it will happen again when BF4 is released. And what respawn is doing with infusing some SP aspects in a MP game has more potential to me then anything else at the moment,it makes the game even more engaging then just a normal MP mode.

could not agree more... he's one of the most fair and interesting/interested people in the industry from what I can tell

Fabricated is probably the wrong word. Aggressively marketed is perhaps more apt. Like I said, forget the GTA V comparison and compare it to something like Destiny. Both revealed, both for 2014, both next-gen. Destiny is just quietly bubbling interest on its own - but it seems like you can't go a day without more titnfall coverage. It's natural for some people to ask 'whats this all about'?

The funny thing is that lots of people have played Titanfall and have nothing but good things to say about it. No one has played Destiny.

That's why Titanfall has all the hype it does. Because people have played it and loved it.

100% agree.

I buy COD games for the campaign, and very rarely (if ever) play the multiplayer component. We're a small minority, though. Zampella said something like 5% of players finish a COD campaign.

Choosing self-publishing would negate us using EA to publish though, right?

Just to make sure its clear - Respawn owns the Titanfall IP, but EA has the rights to publishing the game. This isn't any admission to anything (because, to be completely honest, we've got our hands more than full just making this game) but if someone decided to make a Titanfall saturday morning cartoon and wristwatch tie-in - it would be Respawn that decides to do it and allow it to happen.

Do people think we're spending lots of money on marketing?
No. People think MS is spending lots of money on marketing.

The only thing I have to add is that Phil always looks high and out of it... I know he isn't but the look is goofy in a lovable way.

MS really started the indie movement on consoles back when 360 launched. Like the MS company at large, the Xbox division was really developer-friendly but somewhere between 2008 and 2012, the company really lost its way in that aspect and it was felt not only by the Indie games community but by developers in general when dealing win MS property. I personally think the desire to fix PR issues with the company as a whole isolated the ability for the parts of the company that were working right to connect with the consumer and get valuable feedback.

Anyways, I try not to get to involved in these "we're for the people" gimmicks companies pull. Yesterdays hubris becomes today's shame and tomorrows hubris again. MS will not fix the damage its done to its brand overnight but its good that they're trying and they need to keep on it. As for Sony, they need to be careful, they're walking dangerously close to arrogance; its pretty slimy to say you've changed and you understand when you were like the competitor you are mocking mere months ago.

Errr....are you sure you have the right thread? >_>

Well too bad its Xbox exclusive,
its just not enough to sell me on the system unlike Halo CE on the first Xbox

I will be sure to try it if I ever get around to buying one though.

sessler has turned into a Microsoft fanboy, I have no respect for him anymore
How is he a fanboy??? He states that he enjoyed playing one game on a Microsoft console and you automatically assume he is an outrageous Microsoft lover. I thought I wouldn't see typing like this on a NeoGAF forum but I guess I was wrong.

Anyone that likes anything is a fanboy shill.

I want my gaming press to despise and hate everything. That's the only way to be sure.

You mean like the majority of Sessler's vids? I have no idea why he's so revered in the gaming press.

Wow, I remember that.

I've been on message boards for too long.

I remember when EGM used to have a regularly scheduled fanboy beatdown in the letters section every time a console launched where they told fanboys to consider fornicating themselves and good games were good games no matter what platform, so just chill and enjoy what you want to buy and not what the internet tells you.

They were always a highlight of that issue along with the launch coverage. I miss it so. I want a Shoe smackdown on fanboys this gen but I never will get that again.

The game is getting far too much attention from media. Prepare to be disappointed

I would have agreed with this up until Gamescom. Now that the game has been through two public conventions while maintaining the hype and praise, seeing posts like this just makes me laugh.

It's clear the attention is warranted now.
