Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

X sounds interesting, but those gifs do the game no favors. Graphically it looks bland as shit and decidedly 360/PS3 gen. If it plays well, I couldn't care less about how it looks.

Every time I see these gifs of X, I get so happy that I have a Wii U and this game is going to be an exclusive.

I am so hyped for more info for this game. Hopefully coming this upcoming year. January Nintendo Direct can not come soon enough.

I don't know about bland (or even that it looks like PS3/360 quality). There's a lot going on in them, and they have excellent IQ and textures. Far better than most PS3/360 games. And it's still in development.
I can understand not liking the style, though. And we haven't seen a lot of it yet. Really just a few areas. If it has the wide range that Xenoblade does, though, then it will be an extremely beautiful game.

And it's crazy what a difference some actual atmosphere makes. Even the bits with the dude just running around look cool as hell in X.

Yup your right its so stuning, nintendo needs to make more games like this in the future, a 2-3 jrpg's of this caliber a year that will blow jrpg fans minds.

2-3 big JRPGs a year really isn't realistic. They take years to make and there really aren't enough studios that can make them properly.
Square Enix has been doing this forever, and it takes them an entire generation to make a new JRPG.

I'm hopeful monolith might make at least one other big JRPG during the Wii U's lifespan.

With X done, they'll have their engine ready with tons of reusable assets, so I assume it would take less time to develop I guess.

Those gifs can most likely be done on the PS360, but only with a chuggy framerate and with tearing. We'll see how the final game runs on the Wii U and if it has any tearing.
Doesn't change for a second how bland the game in those gifs looks. Sorry.
I think we can all agree that is a highly subjective thing to criticize.

Yup im thinking who else to get, cuz monolith soft is really a steal for nintendo cant believe that squaresoft trow this in the bus, the guy's a genius, i even cried while watching the credits of xenogears when i was in highschool damn lol, maybe they can get mistwalker also plus add some freelancers like matsuno to the team and make it big.

Right... even though 15 hours should normally be a fair shot for any game, in the case of Xenoblade he probably didn't see enough to see the variety of it. Different characters, forging, links and stuff like that. But I must say it wasn't a problem for me. I had like three major pauses during the game (each lasted several weeks or even months) but at all times I knew I was going to finish it - and I did.

By the way - Monster Hunter 3U. Every week I see a steady increase of players online, I really hope this trend continues.
Could be. Then it was simply moving too slow, even though I skipped most of the sidequests. Also, I never really like forging, feels like needless busy work. As you can probably tell, I've become terribly jaded over the decades. Regardless, I didn't hate it or anything, was just getting annoyed with doing the same thing over and over. I guess I should pick it up again but my wife started getting really annoyed by me playing the same game for so long (already right) and I fear I'm well and truly done with SD gaming. If only they ever patched offscreen gamepad support.

So as I play more and more WiiU, one thing I'm noticing is that the image quality seems to be excellent (when playing on the TV, obviously)... which is a weird change of pace given how poor the Wii's actual video hardware was last gen. But even compared to the PS3 and 360, the games I've played on the WiiU have just looked so clean. It's really nice. Maybe it's just Nintendo's games that look this good. I dunno.

Wii did have bad analog output which created color bleeding on some TVs(example). The Wii U benefits from being HDMI; kind of hard to screw up a pure digital signal.

It's Nintendo's games. Their art style goes a long way. It also probably has a lot to do with the fact that third parties don't appear to give a crap about the Wii U, so multi-plats often suffer compared to their PS3/360 counterparts. AC4 being the most recent example.

I can't remember but can I play Wii games off-tv?

Yes, but you have to use the Gamepad as a TV with a wiimote in hand, making it a completely useless feature (to me anyway).

I have a question!

in trying to set up my new Wii U, I attempted to copy my 3DS Mii to the Wii U. I get the message "Unable to send this Mii" on the 3DS and "This Mii could not be received" on the Wii U. The Mii has sharing and copying turned on. Any reason why I can't transfer?

Good output based on good image output especially compared to the Wii coupled with HMDI being standard helps a metric ton.

oh ok. well I picked these up the other day. All i need now is twilight princess and tatsunoko vs.

You do know that you need a Nunchuk to play Twilight Princess, right? You can't play all Wii games with a Classic Controller (supported controllers are on the back of the box).

You did right, then. Can't use the U Pro with those games. Pandora's Tower is best with the Remote + Nunchuck, though, because it uses cursor aiming which is best with the IR pointer.

what ? seriously ?

i just wanted to play jrpg wii games like last story and pandora's tower...

You guys are confusing the poor guy who was already so confused on the last page. He wasn't asking if this was the best controller on which to play Wii U games, he was asking if this was the correct controller to allow him to play his Wii RPGs, Xenoblade, The Last Story, and Pandora's Tower.

In that case, yes, you picked up the right controllers, isual, and you will now be able to play all those games. Have fun!

That is the correct controller for Wii RPGs, although some people prefer Wiimote+N for Pandora's Tower. Great for Monster Hunter U as well, and still favoured by some over the newer WiiU pads, due to the old stick positioning.

Enjoy :D

Alright, I think I'm going to go get a pro controller. Seems like it'd be ideal for stuff like Tropical Freeze.

Do ZombiU or Wonderful 101 support it, or would I have to switch back to the Gamepad with those?

The only company that was able to reach that goal was Square in the PSX era.

2-3 HD RPGs a year is impossible, heck: "X" will be 4 years in development when it releases around June 2014.

There is a classic controller for the Wii and one for the successor, the wii u. It´s not that hard. ;)
Based on the post order I think he was referring to the fact that he now needs a nunchuk which he seemingly didn't know before. I can understand how needing another piece to hook onto your controller could be confusing to someone.

2 wouldn't be impossible.

They do have smaller scale RPGs they could produce in less time. Baten Kaitos, Paper Mario, Golden Sun, The Last Story, Pandora's Tower and Earthbound all need WiiU representation. That's also a pretty fantastic mix of traditional and non traditional RPGs.

I really want a new Earthbound in the same graphical style as The Wonderful 101.

Edit: In addition, Nintendo needs to build up some third party identity with their RPGs. I need an HD Etrian Odyssey an the WiiU is the only console that can accurately replicate this experience.

Thinking of getting the Wii Classic controller now as well, also just for a few Wii games.

The Wii Classic Pro controller is too expensive for me on Amazon.

whats wrong about classic controller pro?

Seriously? It feels cheap, it has notched analogs, digital triggers, awful ergonomics, requires a wiimote to work, and the analog stick placement copies the horrendous placement of the Dual Shock. Pretty much everything that's wrong with it except for the triggers is fixed on the Wii U Pro.

I've been contemplating making a thread in Community about X, but I dunno if it would be a good idea.

There wouldn't much to talk aside of LOOK AT HOW FUCKING BEAUTIFUL THIS GAME LOOKS.

Seriously, I can see why UNCMark finds it bland, but holy shit I think it's beautiful when I think that will be in a Xenoblade type of game.

Anyone else still not getting the Xmas music in the E shop?

is there any way I can transfer my save games from my wii u to an external memory storage ?

Yes, but just know that your saves are only useable on the Wii U that they were created on.

Once a USB storage device has been exclusively configured for use with a Wii U console, it can be used to store games, applications, new downloadable content, application updates and save data. Once a device has been configured for use with a Wii U console, it cannot be used with another Wii U console, PC, etc., unless it is reformatted.
