2025 | Donkey Kong Bananza Direct (18th June) (2pm UK // 6am PT // 9am ET)

Damn. I really struck a nerve with you fanboys. Ok. I'm sorry I insulted your favorite brand and your favorite games. Man! 😂
I love Astro Bot and I'm gonna love this game, I don't give rat ass about your stupid ass fanboy agenda BS….go somewhere else and cry about it and rest us just gonna enjoy games.

I have nothing against Astro, but "made it a success" is a bit of a stretch, no?
I was checking the 30 million sales of Odyssey against the 3 million of Astrobot or the 97 vs 94 in MC to see if he have a weird point or something… I think he is talking about the GameAwards 😂.

We don't get enough 3D platformers for us to be fighting like this. We should just celebrate that we got/are getting quality games in the genre; we've been eating crumbs for so long.

these narrated Nintendo direct are sooo cringe, Jesus

The narration was brilliant.

I don't think it was acoincidence that the narrator sounded like Dunkey. 🤣

1. Who cares about The Game Awards, or even game awards in general?
2. Part of the reason why Astro Bot won GOTY is because it was so unexpectedly good, to a genuinely shocking degree. It's the only game I can think of in recent memory that had the polish, charm, and creativity of a first-party Nintendo game.

DK Bananza might not win awards, and part of that may be because we expect this kind of thing from Nintendo. But for a small studio like Team ASOBI to capture that absolute raw Nintendo magic, that was something truly special and worth celebrating.

In any case, I don't want to continue side-tracking the conversation.

DKB looks absolutely INCREDIBLE! It's obviously made by the Odyssey team, which is ridiculously exciting to me. I think many of you might know that platformers are my favorite games, specifically Mario games. So to have that kind of attention and care given to what is essentially a revival of an IP is just fuckin awesome.

Man, I can't wait. 🍌

10/10 comment.

These GOTY arguments for fanboys only.

Either expedition 33 wins or this game won't make much difference to me since LOVE both game.

Only thing matters is my enjoyment.

Odyssey had a few framedrops and didn't prevent a 97 in MC and 30 million sales… Is going to be ok.. Trust me.
I would really prefer if they delayed this title. I want it to be good (I want something to play except my Switch 1 library), but this feels extremely unpolished. Those frame lags will honestly kill the gameplay. I can accept that the game looks pretty rough in the graphics department, but not both gameplay and graphics.

BITCH WHAT ABOUT METROID

I'd be happy with any of the 3 winning lol

We are getting "my console's game is better than your console's game" nonsense in here a bit, unfortunately. GOTY are fine, but you are right that they don't really mean much ultimately. How much will our enjoyment of DKB be diminished if it doesn't win GOTY? Zero much is how much.

I think we watched different videos, because this looks amazing in every department.

For the longest time, I always never quite understood why friends of mine would play as Barbarian during Neverwinter Nights (the BioWare game, not the shitty MMO) online sessions. Seeing DK punching the shit out of everything, I kinda get it now.

Damn......so Im gonna have to buy a Switch 2 sooner rather than later huh?

It explains why this game needed its own direct, the first trailer showed us absolutely nothing.

Holly fuck I'm hyped for this game.

The Puzzle part looks like physics based like in BoTW and ToTK. Can't wait.
There's a lot of Zelda in here. The transition between levels look like the dive into the depths in TotK, the clothes give you passive buffs, you have some basic elemental manipulation like using ice blocks to remove lava or throwing balls of wet sand to make crude platforms, you have a universal climbing mechanic but there are slippery or unclimbable walls that force you to use different moves, you have updrafts for the ostrich form...

But Cranky's dialogue already references the original arcade Donkey Kong and past Donkey Kong games like DK64. I think there is some time and memory altering shenanigans going on with Pauline. This could all take place before Odyssey but certainly well after Donkey Kong and DKC1,2,3 and 64.
you mean like this screenshot?

I hadn't seen that, definitely complicates things.

But I ask where it's from because I've only seen dialog from Cranky from the previous demos of the game they showed (was there any in the new trailer? I didn't catch it if so), and I still wonder if that version was even final or just had boilerplate dialogue to hide the whole Pauline angle/reveal.

For now I lean towards total reboot or retooling of the Pauline story. And I prefer that anyway... screw timelines, they're irrelevant in Nintendo's way of doing things (even for Zelda; 100% of Zelda timelines are total bullshit) and I prefer it that way. Nintendo should keep operating with "loose mythologies" instead of pretending the games even begin to make sense in some kind of coherent universe.

I really like all the customes, usually it wouldn't mean much too me, but it gives an extra goal to keep playing to get them all.

The way Odyssey did it was brilliant and it looks like its the same here.

Agree.. And still you have some people here saying that the game looks like a tech demo 😂. I am starting to think that some of them didn't even watched the presentation.

Keep crying bruh. 😂 Also the irony of you calling Astro "dumbed down" and a "a baby platformer" When Mario Odyssey was dumbed down with its multiple lives and infinite lives. 🤣 Idk why ya'll Nintendo fanboys are so salty about Astro. Ya'll should be happy. That someone tackled the genre that ya'll love and made it a success. But I guess that's tribalism. I'm going to stop now. Because I don't want ya'll Nintendo fanboys to keep crying and I don't want to get banned.

The traversal is

able to smoothly climb, roll, break through walls and fly…its gonna be joy to explore.

And to act like Astro Bot was some hardcore platformer too when the vast majority of levels are a cakewalk sure is something. I wonder if he actually played it. Though considering the game hasn't sold all that well, probably not - which is a shame because the game is a fantastic platformer and deserves better than to just throw it out as a weird way of comparison.

If this were the N64 those layers of the planets would look like the 9 layers of hell.

But it wouldn't be obvious because 64-era Nintendo would just randomly place disturbing stuff in the game at random moments, leaving players to theorize if DK was fighting his way out of hell.

Good observation

This looks great, but it's so weird how much of it contains what I can't help but associate to a Mario game. But hey, I get it. This will definitely be a must have when I get a Switch 2 at some point.

Honestly, the one thing I just can't stand about this game is they went total zoomer color with it. There's every color in the rainbow in every scene at all times. And the colors are too bright. Even in a cave, it's like the entire world has a constant flashlight on it.
