343 addresses ongoing Halo MCC Matchmaking issues

All empty comments as far as I'm concerned, it is a business trying to save face while their product burns. I paid $60 for a game that does little new and fails to do the main thing people bought it for. This is seriously a collection of existing games I have sitting on my shelves. If I really want to play the single player campaigns that much I could at any moment.

What I wanted was to have a Halo multiplayer experience that was alive again. MCC fails miserably in that regard. Halo 4 was just a bad game, this is a broken one that is barely passable thanks to the sweat of a developer that cast aside the series. Microsoft and 343 pissed away a lot of goodwill and faith that Halo fans were saving up just for the franchise.

Guess I just will stop being excited for console shooters again.

Hey it looks like everyone is going to get freebies though! Honestly this was a pretty well written apology and clear explanation of the issues. They even gave a timeline of "in the coming weeks". This is miles ahead of Sony and their 1st party that gives no timeline whatsoever. We're lucky when we even get a "soon".

Just take your time and play through the single player campaigns of 1-4. By the time you're done, the online issues will likely all be fixed.

It sounds more like "we'll get it fixed and you'll get freebies so don't ask for a refund, but we won't tell you what those freebies are because they'll be shitty" to me.

I know, but hey we don't even know if Driveclub is going to be fixed in the coming weeks and its already been like a month or 2. I still don't know if I'm getting my PS+ ever, much less in the coming weeks, months or years.
Now that posts part is an exaggeration. From what I've heard, the online has gotten much better, though not perfect yet. Then again, I don't have the game.
Didn't DC release in early October?

Besides, I don't see how this explanation is any better than Evo's.

At least they're working on it. Not much else you can ask at this point. Something something entitlement

Yeah, or maybe don't release it at all if it's not finished? How about not using consumers as a loan agency, and charging them $60 for something.

And if this was a case where they 100% did testing, and didn't have these issues or didn't know about these issues until after it went live, MS needs to step up to the plate and make this right to those that paid for it. Send out a notification or email to customers telling them they can get a refund. Make a refund program. Or give them a free game, or a free month Xbox Live. Something. Anything.

Consumers are entitled to get a product that actually works when paying for it. That said I don't think MS needs to give people something on top of it (that was just a PR suggestion). I guess at this point, if you don't want to wait, you should just ask for a refund and move on. Really, you are only owed the game working. And if it doesn't work, you are owed your money back. Pretty much all there is to it. But this whole thing sucks either way. Unfortunate situation.

How is this sitting at 86 on metacritic if it's pretty much broken?

Outlets were releasing reviews before matchmaking even went live. And some in the media said "it will get patched later, so it's okay".

I'm just saying that compared to their peers, MS and 343i are doing pretty good at being responsive and sensitive to its fans.
Anyone can write pretty sounding things. It's called PR. Until the game is fully fixed, 343 is no better than evolution in any way whatsoever.

Glad I was allowed to return it for another game. I don't like the idea of having to cast aside my $60 game in hope that it's working in a month or so.
I do applaud 343 for at least reminding gamers that they're working on a fix, and I hope they manage to correct everything before the year is up.

Because the reviews are done in controlled environments where everything works before the game is released. Even Jeff Gertsmann mentioned that everything in Drive Club worked before it came out. But I'm sure in 3 months Polygon will issue an updated review, dock it a point or two and make good, even though the consumers that might look to them for review have already spent their $60.

should have delayed the release, sorry but it's true and my thoughts on how 343 and MS handle their top franchises dropped down a few pegs, again.

This really wouldn't help. With all these new games having massive online parts to them, I think the best way to test them is to have an open beta test for a week or so. It's the only way server issues that happen with thousands of people trying to use the game will show up.

I have been loving the game, the single player stuff works great, no issue at all, this is the stuff that can be easily tested in house.

Well yeah obviously years is an exaggeration. I'm pretty frustrated that there's still no word whatsoever on the PS+ edition that was promised. I mean I'm pretty certain it won't be until February or March, but at least say so!

The announcement today is pretty much the same thing as Yosp said for Driveclub. An apology, said they're working around the clock to address, no end date in sight for the final fix. And as far as I'm aware, no one at MS has formally given a PR statement. It's just been 343i.

Both Evo/Sony and 343i have been apologetic since day one, giving regular updates. But neither have been in a position to say what people want: "they game will be fixed shorty".

I think it has more to do with Microsoft rushing a broken game out the door to capitalize on the holidays.

343 has had a many times to prove themselves and they have disappointed every time. The best thing they were doing was releasing all of the non 343 made games in HD and they couldn't even manage that. With the way things are looking now, I don't think Halo has much of a future. They just can't manage a community with the gracefulness that Bungie did. At the same time, it seems like Bungie has lost its magic too.

This is kind of absolutely pathetic.

343, what the hell? They still haven't said exactly what the issue is like they promised they would. Vague as fuck.

Not even almost an ETA and "we'll make it right with.... "

I wonder if this mess is all tied to halo 5. I think a year ago they really thought they'd get halo 5 out for their big fall 2014 push. When they saw that wasn't going to happen they went with the MCC substitute. But of course it seems this too wasn't ready by release date but MS is so desperate they released a known broken game.

Hopefully this will teach us to stop listening to reviews praising a game before all of the components are put to the test, and reviewers that say something is ok because it will surely be fixed by the time we play it. 9's and 10's for this debacle, earned on name alone.

Can somebody explain to me why match making is so broken?

They outsourced the game, so they could work on Halo 5 most likely. Since there were so many different studios working on the game, it's probably a clusterfuck in terms of communication to figure things out.

Can somebody explain to me why match making is so broken?

Because MS/343i had one major priority that trumped all others. It meant there were a few 'teething issues' when the game launched.

While our team works on continual improvements and towards solutions, my commitment to you is that we will take care of all owners of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Our primary and continued focus is first on fixing the issues at hand. Once we’ve done that, we will detail how we will make this right with our fans.

Do they actually have fans? I think most people are holdover Halo/Bungie fans. Is anyone actually hankering for a 343 property?

One is a new game and unproven IP built from the ground up that had a perfectly usable single player. The other is one of the largest franchises of games that are years old and just ports. The driveclub situation was horrible but this seems pretty unacceptable. (should be at least to MS) the single player is unpolished and the matchmaking is supposedly horrible (I've gotten in a few games but I bought the collection for the campaign so I can't talk)

That being said. I wish MS would give a month or two of free live. If I didn't buy COD I would have wasted money on LIVe and I'm assuming a lot of people have

Bu-bu but there are some former Bungie employees at 343. Yeah, probably the janitor and a couple of other people. Regardless of what people thought before, 343 is completely different from Bungie.

I honestly think game fans, websites, and Metacritic need to support adjusting game reviews.

In this day and age, if a game is released broken, scores should reflect that. But also, scores should reflect when developers fix things. Imagine if developers could improve their metacritic by making a game better and releasing free content? That would probably be a huge motivator for publishes to fund more content like that.

But yeah, as is, MCC is about an 8 for me now (10 when fixed).

How is that a lie? Obviously Microsoft and 343 want it fixed asap, it's one of their leading IPs suffering here.

Whenever I hear someone say "we are working on it around the clock" at work, they tend to go home for the rest of the day 30 minutes later

It's just something you say

:(

Just please fix all its issues, please, regardless of how long it takes. I don't need anything from 343i to "make things right." Fixing this amazing collection is enough.

So what are they going to do to make it right with the fans? It's not like they can offer us free DLC or anything... An extra week of Halo 5 beta? Not expecting much. However I hope the game will be fixed by the end of the year. Got other games to keep me busy for now.

Did you guys miss this part?

"Development and testing of our latest content update continues, and we are on track for release later this week. Read the full update from Bonnie Ross "

So yes, she did say coming weeks, but there is something coming out this week at least.

This has to be my biggest disappointment this year. DCs online issues? A real bummer but I could see how it could happen.

MS and their fucking flagship title? No way did I think it could happen. Hell half the product is online and fine on the 360!

I still see them rolling out the halo TV ad and it makes me so disgusted they're still running it. And of course no game site is reporting on it. Gee I wonder why

The fact that it took them this long to apologize is just maddening. I am still interested in Halo 5, but now I will not be buying it at release until I know for sure the matchmaking works and it isn't a broken mess. You have one more chance 343 and thats it.

I honestly have to say that judging by some of the comments in this thread there's literally nothing 343 can do that will not get ridiculed.

That said I'm still disappointed and hope they get their fixes out damn fast. When MCC works it's fucking magical, I want it more consistently to work.

Delay Halo 5s beta and Halo 5 itself until MCC is working
