343 addresses ongoing Halo MCC Matchmaking issues

Did you guys miss this part?

"Development and testing of our latest content update continues, and we are on track for release later this week. Read the full update from Bonnie Ross "

So yes, she did say coming weeks, but there is something coming out this week at least.

No one missed it. There would be more excitement over that comment it it hadn't been preceded by:

We are planning multiple server-side tweaks and game content updates over the coming weeks.

So they already know the upcoming matchmaking patch doesn't fix everything, and they still haven't said they're working on fixing all the campaign issues.

It's illogical to think that one patch will solve everything. It won't, and it never had in the history of software development.

I love this series and I love Microsoft and 343i (on paper) but you all can collectively go fuck yourself.
This was not a surprise to you. I'm willing to bet that part of that day one patch was set to fix these problems, but it didn't. And look where you are you over promised and under delivered. Save your apologies for someone who gives a flying fuck and give me the specifics.

Tell me what went wrong and update me daily on your progress. I'm glad I have other games to play while I stare at the pinned tile and wait to use something I bought a month ago.

We know that, as their previous patch didn't fix all the issues. Even the ones that Stinkles said it would address.

I honestly have to say that judging by some of the comments in this thread there's literally nothing 343 can do that will not get ridiculed.

That said I'm still disappointed and hope they get their fixes out damn fast. When MCC works it's fucking magical, I want it more consistently to work.

Delay Halo 5s beta and Halo 5 itself until MCC is working

While i agree with you to a degree, what ive learned is that the only way these companies ever listen is when it hits their pockets. Asking for a refund is literally the only thing these companies will ever listen to. Its the reason dice was scared shitless after BF4 launched and why MS has been working as hard on xbox one since launch. Ill gladly rebuy it, but in a few weeks when it works. If it works.

It's a shame it came to this, it seems like they're all heartfelt and really want to fix this and the apology seems sincere. But there has gotta be a better way for companies to release online products and ensure they actually work on launch day. There's really no reason games should be rushed to launch unless the companies in question are 100% sure people are mostly going to be able to play it normally.

Other games have been able to have massive launches online successfully, there's not really many viable excuses why we should expect any different from the developers of Driveclub or Master Chief Collection or whatever game.

Find the problem, fix it for the future devs.

Well I think that if MCC isn't fixed by Christmas it will end up impacting Halo 5 sales. Because nobody will trust 343.

Doubt that. Gamers have a really short memory of getting screwed, and Halo could sell on name alone to its fans, plus pre release hype trains blind consumers.

The melodramatic posts and boo hoo tantrums continue lol. The complaining is getting so old and tiresome. Serious lack of maturity going on which i guess i should have expected from gaf.

Mistakes can and do happen. Cant handle it? Go live in a box. 343 has acknowledged the problem several times. Theyre owning the problem. Theyre working to get it fixed. Theyve apologized. Theyve hinted at some form of compensation. Theyre giving periodic updates on where theyre at and what we can expect over the next few weeks. The game works in a subpar fashion but it does work. Nobody's money is wasted if the game gets fixed in the end. Keep that entitled anger going folks. You are all making waves :-/

Deputy Moonman
Moron = me.
Don't forget that.

At least they're working on it. Not much else you can ask at this point. Something something entitlement

What a awful post.

How in the hell is asking for a working product that people have paid their hard-earned money for, "entitlement?" Ugh. It's attitudes like yours that allow companies to continue to get away with this shit.

mentioned in the other thread that as long as the game ends up being supported through the holidays and next year, i wont be too upset about it. it's a shame the game didn't get much of a chance to revitalize the community; i was looking forward to playing with some old friends and running custom games on forge maps, but nobody is really interested with all the issues lying around. my enthusiasm for forge plummeted from a high it hasn't reached since 2010 (no pun intended)

more than anything, i hope one of the content updates addresses the framerate problems. all of the H2A maps have noticable drops, and forge drops way more than it did in Reach and H4. if those aren't fixed soon, i may just have to cash in on those refunds.

I do not own the game, but a friend of mine who is a Halo fanatic was telling me that the way the game is presented, you can not select a particular Halo and then play MP with the maps from that game only... Is that accurate?

He said he thought it was gonna be something like this:

Boot up game
select halo 4
Pick MP
then pick a map to play

What he said it currently is

Boot up game
select MP
random maps from all Halo games are presented, room votes on map.

Is this right? Or is he doing something wrong? If this is accurate, is 343 going to fix this??

Thanks

they removed some of the playlists to funnel the population. you can select playlists for individual games, but most were either temporarily removed or weren't up yet to begin with. halo 4 was one of them.

Normally there would be game specific playlists for each game, but because of the issues they just have cross game playlists along with Halo 3 and 2. Halo 4 and the CE playlists should be there and will be back at some point.

I've never been this disappointed in a game's launch.
I'm not even frustrated or angry about it, just sad.
Hope it's fixed soon.

The fact that it took them this long to apologize is just maddening. I am still interested in Halo 5, but now I will not be buying it at release until I know for sure the matchmaking works and it isn't a broken mess. You have one more chance 343 and thats it.

They've been apologizing since day one. Dan Ayoub put out a letter a few weeks back.
Frankie, Dan, Bonnie, and other members of 343 have been tweeting about the issues since the first few days.
Hell, Frankie's even apologized on GAF a couple times.

Yeah, they have halo 2, halo 2 anniversary, big team battle, team slayer and I want to say another playlist to choose from.

Then was a game is found you vote on a map with certain settings like team br or slayer pro

So a thread about 343 apologizing for a huge screw up on their part has told you nobody here will ever be satisfied with anything 343 does???

So how is it that Bungie was able to make it work so well out of the gate for an arguably much larger install base for Halo games? I'm guessing 343's resources are incredibly limited compared to the former's.

Bungie made one game work, not essentially 5. I think that's part of the issue. 343 made Halo 4 work just fine.

Yes 343i we know you're sorry, and the situation sucks fucking ass. With that being said I think I finally learned my lesson by not buying AAA games, without early GAF impressions. I could be playing Dragon age or super smash right now, but I'm stuck with a digital copy of a broken ass game that I burned $60 on for no good reason...

So disappointed in this game. It was the main reason I got an xbox one. Halo is my favorite fps series. It was my most anticipated game this year. I've pretty much given up on it now. I still want to play it and will be back when it works but it's not the same now. All the excitement, community, and buzz is gone. I have a bunch of other stuff that actually deserve my time since they actually function properly.

Can't believe I paid $60 for this. I hope it gets fixed soon. Good luck people at 343.

You can request a refund. Call them, they'll do it.

Your lesson should be to not buy AAA digital games

Huh? The collection is a way more ambitious project than anything done by Bungie and 343 outsourced too much for their own good

I think I'll do that actually. Didn't really think to do it since I still want the game but I'll just get it physically when it actually works. I have GCU anyways and only went digital because I had faith and wanted to play right when it unlocked.

Never again.

The problem was the launch day, it should never have been released point blank. Needed to come out in april/may. But f it, what do they care, still got the holiday sales, still pushing xbox1's, no one will change their scores

Damn, this still isn't fixed? Did not expect 343 to be in Driveclub status with this release. This furthers the notion that this game was way too rushed or was a victim of scope creep (or both).

Your lesson should be to not buy AAA digital games

I went digital because I had faith, I didn't want to wait in a line while is freezing out, and have my UPS man lose my game bought from Amazon once again. Halo launches have never been known for these Quality control issues, and in hindsight I got burned by my nostalgia fanboy bias towards the franchise...

There is no excuse to release software in this state. Not in the biggest entertainment sector of the world. Not for one of the biggest franchises of that sector. Fuck that noise, and fuck every reviewer who still chooses to comply with these 'clontrolled enviroment' reviews. Assholes.

What's with all the messed up launches as of late? Is meeting a strict deadline really worth it if the product is pretty much broken for the first couple weeks (or longer)? I really hope this doesn't become a trend; it doesn't make me want to buy any game at launch or pre-order if even the biggest of games aren't guaranteed to launch well.

I agree with the bolded. As for a way to go about that, how do you feel about open betas (or closed betas for a large audience like PS+ or XBLG subscribers)? On paper, it seems like it's a great way for developers/publishers to prepare for a launch with a test that closely mimics real world conditions as well as acting as way to hype the game. For consumers, they get to try the game with no cost to them (a 'free demo' in other words) and it helps ensure they'll be able to play it at launch.

I think they have already conceded Black Friday. At this point it's save Halo by Christmas

That would be extremely disappointing. I fear they have lost a huge player base already, imagine if black friday buyers get a broken game too. It's painful to watch at this point because this franchise deserves so much better.

No matter what anyone says about Destiny and how it did not become the next Halo it at least works and it's incredibly bug free.

Be mad about the actual issues, not made-up slights. That's not even remotely true.

Now this ad make a lot of sense.

I must admit kudos to them for not shifting blame to "unexpected number of players" etc and the usual EA/Ubi bullcrap where they basically blame the fans. They copped it on the chin and now they're trying to resolve their own mistakes. Good on 'em.

They had already apologized once by the end of launch week, seems like the longer-than-expected wait to finish the game is just forcing them to make a statement again to try to keep even more people from abandoning the game.

Didn't they say basically that with different wording?
On the matchmaking front, we have encountered unexpected issues that were not apparent in our internal test environment and that have resulted in a frustrating experience, including long matchmaking times and low session success rates.
