I work in Stockholm sometimes and I usually walk by that exact spot if I've been shopping before going to the hotel. Fuck this guy and fuck those who try to benefit from it, and fingers crossed for Sweden staying the same.

Also, while it's horrible and unexpected, people get killed in random accidents every day. A bunch of kids got killed in a bus accident just the other day. Life is precious either way. Let's try not to break down everything we've worked for for decades as a kneejerk reaction.

When ISIS first popped up, it was a rude awakening to see just how many people were prepared to up and leave Europe (and even here in Australia and other nations) and head off to join them. That so many people prepared to leave and take up arms in such a brutal and twisted society should have been a big warning. Since then, we've seen multiple attacks every year.

I'd love to be an optimist and say in an ideal world, Europe is doing the right thing, but in reality its just going to get worse. Sure your only seeing a small percentage taking the spotlight because of things like this, but even if its less than 1%, when you look at the over all numbers, thats still simply far too many

I've walked that street so many times. It's usually very crowded with tourists as it leads down into the "old town" district. 3 dead and 8 wounded sounds very low concidering how cramped it usually is.

Yeah, this has been eye opening to say the least. But even still, I like to think that we are more or less on the right path. Just need a small course correction. I just hope that our governments actually do something about it instead of just going "nope, everything is fine" AND that we avoid knee jerky reactions to the political right, because that's not going to help anyone.

Indeed, the fundamentalists are rare. But the "us and them" mentality probably helps these things happen, and it is alive and well in Sweden. I had a muslim friend there who was born in Sweden and rarely went to his parent's country and he still regularly used expressions such as "those Swedes".
