Am I the only one that thinks Days Gone looks absolutely awesome?

Other than the zombie wave tech, it looked like a more generic version of Last of Us with zombies. Shooting looked pretty bad/weak as well. Didn't do much for me, but seeing more of it could change that.

Looking forward to it, but I have a feeling it's going to be a long wait. It's best to keep your hype in check.

The stage demo looked just OK gameplay wise but some of the things they've said in interviews and the extended demo footage gave me more confidence in the direction the game is going in. I hope it turns out well.

Looks alright but I'd need to see a lot more before I'm interested.

I'm guessing it'll be heavily featured at E3 this year, plus a release date.

It's mainly the whole vibe of bittersweet memories and life on the road that's exciting me, zombies aren't unique but those themes are.

Nope. I think it looks great.

The comparisons to TLOU are kinda lazy tbh; Days Gone is an open world biker zombie horde game, which is nothing like TLOU, apart from the fact that they both feature zombies and crafting.

Looks cool so far but I don't think I've seen nearly enough to form a solid opinion either way. Really want to see/hear more about the gameplay. I'm hoping the structure and use of the "horse" is as open ended and dynamic as they teased in that demo.

The zombie stuff looks aight, but the po-faced biker gang melodrama stuff and Americana apocalypse makes it look like a misguided fusion of Sons of Anarchy and The Last of Us.

It looks great imo, and I think the mix TLOU/ World War Z and SoA could really get us something special, but I guess zombie fatigue has been creeping up for a while.

Also didn't help that it was facing the new God of War reveal (which itself seemed to have had a sort of TLOU facelift) as well as the very hyped Horizon (itself Action Adventure, but RPG) and the shockers with Spider-Man and Death Stranding.
A lot of people on Gaf were also expecting the RDR2 reveal atvthe end I think.

I do think that the reception was pretty good though, if a bit muted (which is always more prudent), but what we've seen so far looked, imo, terrific.

Tech-wise it looks incredible and probably will be a notable game for 2017.
Unfortunately, at the moment, the game does not appeal to me as I am not a fan of the "zombie apocalypse" scenario. (I was also skeptical of The Last of Us at reveal)

when talking about it, its a tough sell. Another zombie game. With a white, hard as nails biker guy. yeah.

Then I saw the zombie horde clip and I was blown away. I don't ever say that. But where I normally just skip through gameplay videos, I just kept watching this gameplay clip as if it was a long shot scene in a terrifying zombie movie.

So yeah, it's something I'm really anticipating.

I don't remember who said it, but someone equated it to "a direct-to-DVD Last of Us sequel".

That was my initial impression, too. Will judge when I play it.

I am and was incredibly surprised at how incredibly derivative and generic it is. Like as a creator you would have to actively seek out to ape and copy the many existing zombie narratives already out there in order for the game to end up as generic as it appears to be.

I think it looks nice, but that gameplay presentation was very repetitive imo. If I remember correctly was more than 10 minutes of running away from an zombie horde while shooting at traps. It could be interesting in a section or another during the entire campaign, but given they've shown it during their 1st presentation I fear it will be the core mechanic.

I hope so, an open world zombie game has a lot of potential. Dying Light was amazing.

Very interested in it. I love exploring in my post-apocalyptic settings and this hits all the right notes so far. I'm very curious to see how much variety they're going to realize in their world. I can imagine those hordes provide some very intense chases and standdowns in more urban and/or vertical environments. I'm also hoping for strong stealth components, allowing scavenging and avoiding detection so you're stocked up and ready for it when you're out of options when encountering a horde.

Hope we'll see a whole lot more in a couple months.

This seems to be the problem with what they showed Because it's not at all as generic and "The last of us" as GAF likes to think

Purely from a gameplay perspective we play a bounty hunting former biker... In an open world... Driving our bike through valleys and forests... Slaughtering packs of World War Z style zombies piling over one another... Am I missing something? This sounds fucking awesome...

other than the fact that this might be one of the most derivative, unimaginative set-ups in gaming history, no, not really :) ...

& don't worry, i'm looking forward to it, also...

looks like a true next gen state of decay

Can I ask how. I think I have only watched the video that was released when the game was revealed, and maybe the one when they were showing off ps4 pro stuff. From what I remember, this game had tons of zombies and you had tons of ammo to shoot them and you seemed to be working alone, whereas State of Decay was not about huge swarms of zombies but rather resource management, building up your team/community, and having a few relatively dangerous zombies.

I don't really have much of an opinion on the game (yet) one way or the other, but I don't really understand how it could be seen as similar to state of decay outside of having zombies.

It looks pretty crappy. I'm not even going to criticize the stale-ass setting because that's a given, but the shooting mechanics they showed during last year's E3 were freaking laughable.

The engine looks pretty impressive but overall it didn't do anything for me.

I don't like zombies and I think the characters look boring and generic. The shooting looks boring. Backing away from a horde that is always about to overwhelm you as you plink them with a assault rifle seems... well it seems like there has got to be something more to the game than that.

Maybe it will have an impressive gameplay hook but otherwise the actual horde gameplay seems super unappealing.

Is my dream game but what I saw of the gunplay disapointed me, should have asked Naughty Dog for assitance on that department.

Doesnt look satisfying to kill zombies and it breaks my heart.

It has a lot of potential.

The great visuals aside, the gameplay is what really stood out. I like how they played through the same areas and things turned out very different each time.

Hopefully they go all in with logical and fun traps in this one - like at the sawmill there might be a pile of logs held by a big harness, and you can shoot the harness and the logs will roll down and crush the notzombies, or you'll be able to set up trip-wires and use it to slow the horde down, or for instance that guy you chase in the gameplay demo, hopefully you'll be able to shoot him in the leg, and you can leave him there for the notzombies to take care of rather than killing him yourself.

Again, hopefully we're going to get a rad gameplay demo at E3 this year.

It use UE4. If Sony first party game use UE4, people would not feel excited

What does this even mean?! UE4 is a great engine, and Sony's popular games like Uncharted, God of War, TLoU, Gran Turismo etc are not popular due to the game engine they use.

Ammo was because of the demo. Idk about it being close to state if decay(never played)

There's crafting

Resource management with the bike, gas, it can break down(god help you if it does)

The Freakers aren't just brain dead, apparently the tyoe we saw was a horde they travel in packs and are normally in an area where food would be(wildlife are in the game btw) they have to eat like everybody else, the second type are the newts adolescent when turned are scared and only like to surprise attack,

Day and night cycle, dynamic weather

Environmental traps

That's about all we know for now

I'm interested...it's not my top Zombie game interest wise though.

I'd say my list of "most excited for" top 3 games would be..

Horizon: Zero Dawn (just because it's coming sooner than RDR2)
RDR2
State of Decay 2 (<--Zombie game I'm super excited for)

I'm not a fan of tons of fast zombies in games. That's a big turn off for me, however...the open world part has my attention if it's done well. SoD2 is my lead due to base/fortress/community/permadeath/foraging in an open world. I'm sure this will at least have some kind of foraging, but most likely not to the level of SoD2. Then again...they may move it towards being similar to SoD.

All I saw was the E3 video, but I thought it looked generic. I am tired of zombies though. they seem to be everywhere nowadays.

Impressive technology. Extremely unappealing setting, aesthetic, and characters for me personally.

I mean it looked ok but nothing seemed amazing. Would need more to make any real judgment.

The thing that stuck out to me is how bad the motorcycle sounded.

So basically not really like state of decay at all unless you look superficially at the game. Just want to clarify that this is not a bad thing.

State of Decay had base building mechanics (somewhat shallow of course), limited supplies that you had to constantly replenish by rummaging through buildings, inventory management for you and all of your squad, you could play as multiple characters (all could die permanently and be lost for the rest of the game) and had to allow characters to rest, zombies certainly existed in horde form but these were maximally 20 zombies (nothing close to what was shown in the Days Gone Demo), etc.

This game seems much more focused on a singular character rather than a community like state of decay was. Again, not a bad thing, just not at all like state of decay. Comparing the two seems like someone just wants to get some xbox versus playstation argument going.
