Am I the only one that thinks Days Gone looks absolutely awesome?

Eh. It looks competent but it also looks incredibly bland. There's no hook imo, just a lot of stuff that's been done many times before, hopefully stuff that ends up at least being executed well. But unless there's a big curveball I can't see myself ever taking an interest.

All I saw was the E3 video, but I thought it looked generic. I am tired of zombies though. they seem to be everywhere nowadays.
I mean Dead Rising 4 came out last month, but other than that when even was the last zombie game? Dying Light 2 years ago? Unless there's something I'm completely forgetting I never understand this "zombies are everywhere" thing. They really aren't

I still don't understand what the gameplay is. is this essentially GTA-Zombies? Or is it more along the lines of uncharted but instead of the enemies being individual bullet sponges, they act as one large collective mass bullet sponge?

love the world of the game since the reveal as well has have a lot of faith in the dev, but i just don't get what you do. can anyone enlighten me on the gameplay?

thanks

Seeing all the zombies running around on top of each other was pretty impressive (although heavily scripted) but everything else looked generic and unoriginal. The biker angle could be interesting if they add a lot of versatility to the bike but it just feels like another human story type thing which is very weird with The Last of Us part 2 now announced.

For me I am just done with the overly cinematic this person action games where I have little agency over the experience. This game just looks, to this point, like it is overly scripted and quite frankly that just bores me.

I like the main character and the biker theme. I am hoping the story is actually good but Im going to be doubtful of it being anything other than average.

This seems to be the problem with what they showed Because it's not at all as generic and "The last of us" as GAF likes to think

If it's not generic and it's not meant to be trite and cliché, why did Bend create and Sony fund a zombie apocalypse game set in the Midwest USA starring scruffy bearded white guy who lost his wife?

It's like it's checking *all* the boxes, as if they had to deliberately go out their way to replicate what we've already seen a million times before

I was a little taken aback that we are getting another zombie shooter but it looks good. I hope there is a ton of customization to your bike and character. I am looking forward to seeing more, I will definitely give it a shot.

No you are not. If you ask "am I the only one" the answer is always no.

Fucking this, so tired of shit being framed as "Am I the only one?!?!?!"

No. The answer is always no. There is always someone else.

Anyways, pretty lukewarm on this so far. I hope we get to see more by E3. Kind of had my fill of zombie apocalypse shit already, so wish they had gone with something else thematically.

Meh...
It seemed very cool at first (bikers in a zombie apocalypse and all that) but the gameplay turned me off completely. The weapons look like complete shit and the zombies too, nothing packs ANY punch and they seem paper-like.

I'm pretty interested in it. I haven't experienced an over abundance of zombie titles lately so i'm down. I would like to see brief snippets of the main campaign and more than the horde mode though. The music is pretty dope if that reveal trailer is anything to go by.

I thought the original story trailer was fantastic. Solid voice work and atmosphere building. The gameplay demo looked ok / alright but I liked the cinematic trailer more

They haven't shown enough of it for me to really get a grasp of what this game will offer but as of this writing it looks like the least exciting 1st party offering from Sony this gen.

I figure it has to have more we haven't heard about yet because I don't know why Sony would greenlight a game that looks so similar in style and gameplay as another 1st party studio's franchises.

I think it looks amazing. But it depends on a few things. How big is the open world? How varied is it? What are the missions/story going to be like? And are they going to improve the shooting mechanics significantly? Because at the moment that aspect looks quite weak.

It could be amazing if they deliver on everything they've been saying but who knows. It's a way bigger project that Bend have ever attempted before. I'm hoping it's a late 2018 title so they can just take their time.

It looks amazing . It looks like one the "few" games sony is making that focus on gameplay which is huge bonus for me already. Fuck those cinematic wanna be shooters.
This looks great, Pro version looked godlike.

I might buy Pro for this.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
I'd like to point out to some folks complaining about the weak shooting or guns not doing enough. That seems to be very much the point. The main character during the demos from E3 had 750 bullets plus tons of molotov cocktails and he usually just thinning out a few of the infected/freakers and the environmental kills and other interactive elements seemed like the best bet, if nothing else, just to stem the tide of enemies for you to do some small bits of damage to the horde. I don't think guns, unless you get a minigun or something, are going to be all that effective a tool to directly take out the hordes.

I think it looks great, with stunning visuals and these impressive hordes of zombies.

But in the early impressions from the conference it was unappreciated by the ones who attacked The Order, The Last Guardian, Gravity Rush 2, Quantic Dreams titles and other Sony games. So who knows, maybe it's a great game with good sales but receives an early speedrun video or bad early review and again it generates another snowball full of bullshit.

I would not mind if they replace the zombies with Nazis at the last minute.

Edit: or just make a Nazi code.

I think it looks well produced and the world looks nice but I'm super put off by the main character's generic male model but not who forgot to get a haircut for a couple of months look and I don't think it looks particularly special or fun to play

It looks like every single zombie trope crammed into a game. Looks really generic and meh to me. I'll still give it a try but expectations are as low as they can be.

This.

A horde of zombies punctuated with cut scenes of a biker with a "heart of gold" missing his girlfriend/wife.

While the mechanics might prove interesting the love child of The Walking Dead meets Sons of Anarchy couldn't be any less interesting to me.

I feel like people are sleeping on it purely because it's easy to dismiss as "just another zombie game", but the announcement trailer was actually one of the best game trailers I've seen in years: the graphics were great, the editing was very professional which bodes well for in game editing, the writing was good, the voice acting was top notch and the general vibe was of some themes you rarely explore in video games - longing for the past, mourning, lost love etc.

I thought the same thing until I saw the trailer yeah.

Looking forward

I've never seen that night time screenshot before, looks like it could be a damn good horror game at night. Hopefully they show of more night time gameplay.

I actually hear you on this OP. I think people are sleeping on this, so far, considering how much potential has been on display, so far.

I think this game looks amazing, personally.

It looks alright I guess. Gunplay to thin out Hordes is nice. The game's probably going to shine in an unscripted setting. The potential interactivity of all the objects is neat but it seems to be a in a specific scripted sense, which means level design becomes really important and it also happens to be open world which usually means scattershot level design.

Zombie games tend to do the same thing thematically so it's not that interesting from that angle.

The moveset of this guy seems to be the main reason I feel so uninterested though. It seems like a basic TPS control Scheme copied ad nauseum with the same abilities of so many other games with a limited ability to really chain them in a satisfying way.

No it's actually grown on me big time since the initial reveal. I can't wait to see more. I initially thought it seemed derivative from TLOU, but this is actually open world and seems to have a much different gameplay loop and pace. If the story is great, I think this has a shot at being a really fantastic game. I wonder if it's set to come out late this year or if it's a 2018 game.

Looks really uninspired and doesn't seem to bring anything new to the table. Let's see if they have something under wraps that changes any of that.

I don't care the high quality of writing or voice acting, if we are going to get yet another open world game shooter with crafting mechanics, and with zombies in top of that.

You're not.

I can definitely see it appealing to a lot of people, and getting a good word of mouth if the stuff they say you will be able to do with the game's open world, really does pan out in the final game.

As for me though, it is by far the only AAA first party game from Sony this gen that I'm not interested in. It is basically combining a bunch of elements that I'm just not a fan of. That's alright though, variety for a console library is good. I'd only be disappointed/upset if all of a sudden all of their games were following this formula or included these elements I didn't like. But that's not the case. There's plenty of other Sony stuff on the horizon that does appeal a lot to me.

Felt very apathetic towards its reveal and that hasn't really changed much.

It feels a bit superfluous in Sony's line-up with the announcement of Last of Us 2 as well.

Nah, looks good, it's coming from a proven dev studio and it's the kind of game I'm in the mood for after DR4 turned out to be such a heap.
