I guess it's just a matter of opinion on the song selection; frankly, a cursory glance at RB1's set list would normally set off a lot of alarms for my tastes, but I was shocked at how fun 99% of the songs were. The only one I genuinely do not like is Dead on Arrival simply due to how incredibly unfun it is on every instrument. Otherwise, having a stable group to play together with locally (my brothers) does wonders to even more the technically unremarkable songs.
I think context helps a lot with the opinions on what a rhythm game's music selection is; for the most part, Elite Beat Agents is filled with songs I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole. Yet the game managed to sell me on even Ashlee Simpson, if only because I had to cheer on a diligent white blood cell against an impending virus invasion. I had a similar experience with Guitar Hero: On Tour; Smashmouth is one of the lamest bands in history, but goddamn it if I don't want to replay All Star over and over again because it's a joy to play. It's all the same with Rock Band; I can easily put my musical biases aside (especially since I clash with my brothers in that regard) since the experience trumps all that bullshit.
Except when they want to play Inside the Fire again. Goddamn guys, at least pick the endearingly stupid Disturbed song (Indestructible) to play every time we're together. Singing about a Master Chief/Marcus Fenix/giant robot amalgamation>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>gratingly terrible riff on Run to the Hills.
P.S. The price really doesn't concern me; it will not be expensive enough for me to even think twice about it, plus I already have all the DLC released thus far for the game. I suppose it would be too much to ask for some of the songs to be replaced with masters, but I can live with it. It's pretty fucking phenomenal that they're making this feature available, which I can only meet with praise and more of my money.
