Just bought a refurb iPad Mini 2 for my family for $250. I hear refurb is basically new, so I hope it won't have problems in the future.

I'm sure I'll enjoy this more than my Nexus 7 2013; the screen is just too small and 8in seems to be the perfect size.

This will also ease the painful wait for my 6 Plus. I'm excited!

what's the actual resolution of the 5k iMac?
DSC_0634_verge_super_wide.jpg
A shame they are not selling the display by itself.

Was hoping to purchase one, but on 2nd thought my videocard would melt down trying to drive that resolution with the newest games. Plus, it seems thunderbolt II specs aren't up to par anyway.

Can someone explain to me why you would want a display over 4K?

Aren't 4K videos going to look weird on a 5K monitor?

I'd love for someone to actually tell the difference of a text based IDE on a 4K monitor versus a 5K.

Considering Apple's pixel-double UI for high resolution displays, the difference would be quite obvious actually. 5K is basically double the resolution of the old 27 iMacs and means that the 'real' screen estate stays the same. 4K would have meant more pixels that the old iMac but a smaller 'real' screen estate

Work?
Apple displays aren't covered by heavy filter films, so you can appreciate font borders a bit more, which does wonders when reading/programming.

Same with colours, even if its monitors are not among the most accurate or fast available. Reflections can be a problem, depending on your room setup.

Edit:
If you just want the display, it's this exact one made by dell.

Ah, that's interesting. Will take a look at it. Thanks!

2nd Edit: I just saw the price of the Dell one.

I guess I'll have to see it in person to see if there's really a difference.

Really want the new iPad but was kind of hoping for a bit of a redesign of the shell. Never had an iPad before but it's going to be really hard to wait a year.

No plans to buy an Apple desktop computer, but I look forward to dropping into an Apple store at some point to stare at that glorious screen.

Is it expected that the new Retina iMacs will be on display/sale in Apple stores tomorrow? I really want to see one in person before I order.

They really need to stop making 16gb iPads

I have a 16gb mini that I have almost no apps on.. no movies.. subscribed to maybe 10 podcasts. I have to clear space on it every other week. Shit is ridiculous

I wonder how much that extra res helps if you are not serious about photo and video editing. I am looking for someone for work and a general desktop for the family.

I need to compare the 2 in person. The Retina imac is a fair price but if I can get the lower res imac with fusion drive for a substantially lower price I might do that and upgrade the ram myself.

I'm kinda intrigued by the new Mac Mini.....does anyone know if it supports two monitors, and what I would use to connect them?

So GAF I need a little help. Right now I take my ultrabook to uni every now and then when I need to and mostly just use it to for Word, Powerpoint, Excel and web browsing, the problem is the battery on it is crap so I have to carry my charger as well which is a pain. Would an iPad Air 2 be decent enough to take instead to uni for these things instead? I've never owned a tablet before.

You could indeed, but inevitably you'll be having to type on a touchscreen keyboard, which was never an ideal thing for me to do especially during fast-paced lectures. Otherwise you may wish to invest in a keyboard.

I see lots of them in class with those keyboard cases. Also see MacBook Airs but almost no full size laptops anymore.

These won't sell out, not worth pre ordering. If the iPad Air didn't sell out anywhere these won't

iPads don't usually sell out because of all the SKUs and not being part of cell contracts.

Great thanks guys! I've never bought an ipad soon after its release and assumed they sell out like iphones.

Last year was 3am (est)

Thanks, I guess my concerns were unfounded though.

What time is it?

I feel you. I have an iPad 4 that I use mostly for podcast catching and some gaming. I have to clean out the fridge constantly. I've been thinking about upgrading. Speaking of that, is the Air 2 a worthwhile upgrade to the iPad 4?

If you're creating documents, I think you'd be better off with a MacBook Air. There are Office Apps for the iPad, and they're good, but I still think you'd be faster and more productive with a laptop. Also, the MBA battery life is amazing. If you're just reading documents and adding occasional notes, the iPad could be a good choice.

Also target and other places had deals on new mini's and air's during black friday and after last year so if you might be on the fence it doesn't hurt to wait a month.

Already have an air.

Best computer I have ever owned.

I need to upgrade our home desktop though. It's for my wife and kids in addition to myself.

Thanks guys, I'll have a look into iPad keyboards now and see what I think of them. I do want an Macbook Air but my ultrabook is still pretty recent (Acer Aspire S7) so it would sort of feel like I have two devices which are very similar but I guess if I do opt for an Air I'll sell this one anyway.

Will definitely pick up that iPad Air 2, finally I can retire my 4th generation iPad, made the mistake of buying a 16G version, will bite the bullet and get that 64 this time

So is there any word on whether the Air 2 will have louder speakers that Air 1 ? I hate having to put my iPad too close to my ears every time I'm watching a video.

I couldn't wake up to watch this in time. I suck.

  • iOS8.1 and Yosemite. Cool. Too much repetition of pats events though.
  • iPad Air 2, generally good iterative update. Touch ID will be useful.
  • iPad Mini 3, come on Apple, what were you thinking? And why three models? Silly.
  • Mac Minis I haven't bothered to keep up with in years.
I'm moderately happy with the iMac with Retina. I really wanted something surprising and powerful driving it, and the M295X isn't it but it's acceptable. The CPU and display are both pleasing, and it's a good deal in that respect. I want to read the reviews before jumping into a purchase. First gen retina devices can be notoriously choppy. Plus benchmarks, etc.

I seriously wonder why they don't make the imac thicker in the back (it used to be) and actually put a desktop GPU in there? Does it really matter about how thin the monitor is? The display is gorgeous but it's completely undesirable for people who even want light gaming at native res, at least put in the new mobile nvidia 900 series if you're going to use crappy laptop parts in a desktop.

Nobody is gaming at native res on this card regardless of M295X or 980M. I was always aiming for 1440p gaming upscaled 2x.

A8X GPU being 2.5x as powerful as the A7 GPU has me intrigued. I'm thinking that should be on par with the Tegra K1 GPU, which is damn impressive. This has to be a lead up to an @3x iPad "Pro."
