Right now I am on pay as you go. I can make £10 last a long time with Skype, FB Messenger, Hangouts etc and all the wifi that's about. 1p per MB goes a long way on cellular too.

I might switch back to a rolling one month contract if my usage increases.

That's the flexibility off contract gives you. You can also switch carriers and plans easily.

When I had my iPhone I was stuck with what became a VERY uncompetitive contract with O2 for two years. Never again.

Yeah, I definitely understand the appeal of the flexibility to a lot of people, and obviously that's the main draw. I guess I just expected it to be cheaper than it actually is for non-pay-as-you-go plans (obviously, pay-as-you-go can be as cheap as you want it to be using strategies like you mentioned to do most stuff on wi-fi, etc).

Thanks to everyone who responded with examples of their arrangements. I might start doing a little more research on my own now to see what's available and compare prices based on my own usage.

Anyone else got the feeling they held off on bumping the specs much this time so the 6S seems relevant?

The 5 was like another "S" upgrade in terms of specs compared to the 4S but when the 5S came out it was all a bit of a "meh" upgrade.

They will probably just throw OIS into the smaller 6S version and make 32 gb the base. I doubt they would make it 1080p, then they'd do the iPhone 6c for compact and give you a phone with the 5s size but current 6 specs.

Really loving that 64gb upgrade for the $300 model. It'll be great when I upgrade next year. I'm nearly maxed out as it is and it'll be nice not to have to delete games or apps or music every so often.

I can't find anything about water resistant on the spec page. So I'm guessing it's not?

It says the components are enclosed for protection against "the elements". Now what that means is still up in the air, but one would think it has at least some kind of water resistance.

I meant in terms of CPU, GPU and RAM.

The 6 is still on 1GB ¬_¬. Unconfirmed if the 6+ has 1GB or 2GB

Thanks. I was hoping for something standardized, like an actual standardized IP67 rating.

How can they justify still only having 1GB of RAM? One of the worst things about it is that browsing the internet means that tabs will have to fully reload each time I switch.

5s and 6+... think i'll go with 4.7"

It's not waterproof.

It's moisture resistant, which means it will withstand your sweat and some water if you're washing your hands.

Don't try to submerge it, though. It's not for swimming.

Does anybody know how the "contract free" iPhone 6+ will work? It comes with a T-Mobile sim card but will it be unlocked? I need it to work in England.

It's clear you don't know much about the phone, then.

The reloading has nothing to do with the 1 GB. Chrome and Opera don't need to reload when you're using them on a 5 or 5s or 5c.

It's a choice Apple made with Safari.

Tell me why the 5s does so well in benchmarks if its 1 GB of RAM is so awful?

I get that these bigass phones are popular and all that but each time I see one (any brand, but this Apple one is massive) I can’t help but think that the 5.5”-ish size is just ridiculous looking. Just really bad.

Oh well. you mfer’s wanted a bigass iPhone, you got one. I wonder by the time the iPhone 7 hits they’ll offer an iPhone mini with a 4” screen for me :(

If that happens to you something is wrong.

tab reloading on iOS is super common behaviour, not a sign that something is broken.

Chrome definitely does.

And it's not just browsers. If you try switch between several apps they'll refresh.

I have only played around with my relatives iPhone, it is one of the things that always annoyed me when I was using the iPhone. Didn't know it was only limited to the Safari browser.

Tab reloading every time you switch tabs is an indication something is broken.

I'll also point out that tabs reload far more often on older phones despite also having 1GB of RAM.

A phone that big without a smart stylus seems a missed opportunity. The S Pen is the best part of the Note phones.

I wonder if we will get a iPhone Mini next year thats back to the classic iphone size. Not that I want one but it would finish this circle of stupid

iOS hibernates the last recently used app from memory when it gets close to full. Safari does the same thing with tabs. If it had more RAM you'd see less refreshing.

I'll be honest. I don't really have this problem with my 5 but I know it's a problem for the iPads which are still on a pitiful 1GB.

Also the RAM requirements of apps is going to go up with the increase in screen resolution so the 6+ better have 2GB...

Less tab refreshing would be amazing. Probably my biggest iPad and iPhone pet peeve, but mostly iPad since it's my "browse the web in the couch or while in bed" device.

It could easily be, either in this iteration or the next few ones, given that you don't have any ports or anything open. the only place water could come in is the small space between the screen and the backing, or through the crown and button

They've shown it well in advance, and it seems they're not yet disclosing all the info about it.

Things like battery life, different prices, technical info, what technology is and isn't included (for example, if it's possible to use ApplePay, does the watch have Touch ID? Otherwise, what makes it more secure than a simple card?) are all unknowns for now.

As a side question, does anyone know if the iOS 8 GM will sync with Yosemite PB2 on its release or if we'll need to wait for the Yosemite GM as well to use Continuity features?

Probably should have just rebranded the 5S as the mini

I wonder how soon Virgin will get the Plus, if they do, and if they'll have the sales they'd been having. I got my 5C for 20% off. The Plus I want would be $900 after tax but with a sale like that it's be a slightly more swallowable $720. I'm really disappointed they kept the goddamned 16GB on the low end.

Was hoping for some kind of beats update/news. I mean maybe give iTunes Match subscribers a discount. Why did they spend $3+ Billion on that noise again?

It does look huge. I want it. But also I don't. I don't know yet. I really want the exclusive features. But I also don't want to carry a giant monolith with me. Though I would be replacing my iPad and iPhone with one device. Hmmm..

Can't wait to see them in person.

Based on the measurements, the largest watch face isn't that big at all at 42mm - that's the size of an average mens watch. I've got a 47 mm on right now and have fairly thin wrists.

I think I'll have trouble resisting the 42mm black stainless steel case with black stainless steel band. It's in between casual and dressy.

I just can't push myself to get a phone that big, even with all the advantages it has over 5s and 6. I'm either getting a 6 or sticking with my 5s til next year.

It's a sneaky way of increasing the price without increasing the price.

Presumably a hell of a lot more people are going to spend the extra $100 on the phone now.

A lot already did. Honestly for most of us on this forum the deal got better. 64GB for the same price as 32GB. No need to add space to the bottom model because most of the people who have been buying that one and would continue to buy it don't need more space. Apple would just be throwing away money.
