As much as that price sucks, signing a 2 year contract now with rogers will boot me out of my $30/6GB plan to a much shittier one.
Dang, but that can't be too far behind iOS8 I hope. Would suck if we have to wait until the iPad event later this year or something for it.

How much do people pay off-contract? I've always wondered this. I pay like $60 per month on an AT&T plan with unlimited data and (I think) texts and a stupid amount of minutes that I never even come close to hitting.

How can you say the battery on the 6 is gimped? It is better than the 5S. Did you really expect the battery to be the same on the 6 and the 6+?

Can someone explain to me what the iWatch does, exactly? Besides tell time, I mean. Does it do apps and stuff? Can't you just do all of that already on the iPhone? What's the point of having the iWatch if you just have to have your iPhone with you anyway?
Well, I save a significant amount with AT&T by staying off contract...so it's worth it to just buy the phones full price. I might do their payment plan (Next), but I'd rather just get it unlocked; though it is easy to get AT&T to unlock phones, even iPhones, now. I clicked a button online and they unlocked my 5s a few months after I bought it.

The Note has a bigger screen and isn't as tall as iPhone+
I pay $30 on Tmobile, and if and when I want a new phone they will still let me split the payments across 2 years.

M8 design is better IMO.
I was hoping Apple would take strides forward on the front, but my guess is they are holding that out for the iPhone 7 after the iPhone 6/6+S line or whatever it will be called.

I'll wait for the reviews to see if OIS is a big deal or not.
The camera on the iPhone 6 seems to be only lacking the OIS compared to the Plus.

Looks like the preorder page won't let you buy off contract for att. The only options are 2 year contract renewal and att next plan. At least on the iOS apple store app.

Anyway, Apple never confirmed it was releasing a television. It's completely different.
£15 a month for unlimited data (1 month rolling contract) and very competitive pay as you go options when money is tight and you need £10 of credit to last as long as possible. £43 going out of my account every month for 2 years would kill me.

As someone who started off with Android in its early stages when first released, then jumped to Apple iOS with the iPhone 4S, then back to Android with a Nexus 5 last year and now rocking a Lumia 930 I was genuienly interested in what Apple could pull out the bag.
They've "gotton away" with it in recent years not really having to innovate as such - this event they have done so in a way but not the game changing event we were all expecting (myself included). And you know? Thats OK I think. We're clearly reaching a plateau with smartphone tech until at least bendy/holographic/implants make their arrival in 10 or so years time.
Nothing here though to make me drop +$1000 (AUD) on a new phone though; right now my Lumia 930 is the best smartphone I've owned and no need to go back to the iOS ecosystem.
As for the watch? Meh...my fitbit tracks my footsteps and I like my Tag Carrerra- until such time as the big watch maker names get "in on the act" licensing Android or Apple software or the like (we await Microsoft's entry into this fray) my current setup will remain.
Still, enjoying this between all the big companies - competition is good!

So if you got the base 6 and split the price up over 2 years, you'd be paying $57 per month compared to the $68 per month (splitting the $199 with contract price over 2 years) that I'm paying.
Not a bad deal, although I was expecting something a lot cheaper given how adamant so many off-contract people are about staying that way.
I do realize it also gives you more flexibility to change carriers, etc.
What about talk time and texts? How much of those do you get?
Also, you still have to average out the price of the off-contract phone over those 2 years (see the math above...£15 == $24 so it's pretty close to Seth C's example)

You either have an ancient plan, or a discount that is more than any employer discount I've seen.
OLD plans were $40 for base 450 minutes + rollover, $30 for unlimited data and another $20 for unlimited text. That's $90, before taxes. Or you're on a family plan, in which case...
I pay ~43/month after taxes. I got 3 family members to join my plan and that's what we end up splitting. 10GB plan...luckily only two of us really use data. The thing I love about the shared plans is not having to worry about rooting/jailbreaking to be able to tether.
I disallow weak analogies.

I'm grandfathered into my plan from back when the 4S came out (maybe earlier, I've had a 3S, 4S and 5S). That's why it's still unlimited.
I guess I'm on a family plan, the overall price is $180 and it's split between me and 2 other family members. We might not have unlimited texts, I can't remember, I just know we've never been charged an overage for them or anything.
I do miss the ability to tether, for sure.

Yes you need to buy a phone but that means you can buy any phone and be off contract so cancel your plan/sell your phone at any time.

Right now I am on pay as you go. I can make £10 last a long time with Skype, FB Messenger, Hangouts etc and all the wifi that's about. 1p per MB goes a long way on cellular too.
I might switch back to a rolling one month contract if my usage increases.
That's the flexibility off contract gives you. You can also switch carriers and plans easily.
When I had my iPhone I was stuck with what became a VERY uncompetitive contract with O2 for two years. Never again.
Because most people who buy the cheap iPhone don't need more.

becuase Apple does not want you to buy the 16 gb model. It wants you to buy the 64 gb model. if Apple introduced the 32 gb model as base, then no one would buy the 64 gb model

After seeing the new devices and the specs and all the rest, I think Ill stick with my iPhone 5 for a while. i might pick up a 5s model for the Touch ID if the iOS 8 API makes it more useful for me (1password, specifically).
Im not interested in the watch. I like watches and wear them every day. But the watch design isnt my style (wanted something more circular) and I dont see the fitness or taptic messing being interesting enough to use. The watch just feels like all the other Android smart watches out there. I guess it could be popular but I dont se it doing anything interesting enough to justify. or the UI being seamless enough to want to use regularly.

For me the main issue is that when I was with ATT, contract or not, I was paying about $65. So I felt compelled to always upgrade phones...otherwise I'm effectively throwing away money. With Tmobile there is none of that pressure and when I'm not paying for a phone I'm saving quite a bit of money every month.
It's a sneaky way of increasing the price without increasing the price.
Presumably a hell of a lot more people are going to spend the extra $100 on the phone now.
