Yeah, I definitely understand the appeal of the flexibility to a lot of people, and obviously that's the main draw. I guess I just expected it to be cheaper than it actually is for non-pay-as-you-go plans (obviously, pay-as-you-go can be as cheap as you want it to be using strategies like you mentioned to do most stuff on wi-fi, etc).

Thanks to everyone who responded with examples of their arrangements. I might start doing a little more research on my own now to see what's available and compare prices based on my own usage.

Let's say we each buy the 16GB model. You pay $199 up front plus $65 per month for two years. I pay $199 up front plus $30+$18.75 per month. Over the course of 2 years I paid $1369 but could have paid off the phone at any time and shut off service or switched carriers. You paid $1759, almost $400 more over the two years, all for the favor of being locked in and hit with an ETF if you decided to leave. If we each decided to keep a phone for 3 years, I'd have paid $1729, or still less than you did in two years. You'd have paid $2539. That's basically what I'd pay to get a 6 plus 5 years of service. It adds up.

Wow. Looking at it like that, the big one just looks kind of dumb. The 5s is a good size.

Seriously. I get the business reasons why they caved, but....ech.

The 5s is the ideal size; standard iPhone 6 is as large as I'm willing to go before I feel like a bit of a tool using it in public as a phone.

Honestly, I would love to have my next phone be water resistant.

Water resistance needs to be standard for every phone or smart-tech device considering how they've essentially become the central devices for most everyone's daily ritual. Water proof would be even better. Would love to be able to track my swimming with my watch or run in a heavy rain.

Does anyone have a Secondary link tot he keynote?

I do not have Safari or OS X installed on my PC to watch it from the Apple site

Also most YT videos that are up at the moment are really bad desktop captures of the live event.

thanks in advance.

Well i can excuse a phone that big without a stylus because of the apple watch. You won't need to pull it out of you pocket much. Genius fucking movie from apple....Want a watch? get an Iphone.

Sheesh

I like the look of iphone 6, might be my next upgrade, but will have a look in the store to compare the sizes.

Not interested in the watch at all, just not something I would get much use from. If I wanted all that health monitoring stuff for fitness, then I would prefer something cheaper.

Just wait a little while. It'll be up on iTunes and eventually on YouTube officially from Apple.

I started watching the keynote at apple.com but they've taken it down, i guess they are upping it as an actual video that you can scrub rather than a stream.

Any idea how the new U2 album just showed up in my iTunes today without me purchasing/downloading it? I'm not on iCloud, either.

Weird that they'd just push it out to everyone rather than making it free for whoever WANTED it lol.

Bono insisted that they "push a button and all 500 million people would have it within 5 seconds". It was dumb. I fucking hate U2, I hated the scripted conversation they had.

Only problem is, once you have 5"-5.5" phones around, the 5s looks "dumb". Which, IMO, it has for some time now. I can't go back to a sub 5" phone. They feel practically useless to me. So, to me, the 5s is actually a poor size.

Well, at least everyone else will look like a tool too.

Jesus. Never heard anybody so angry over a completely free music album. I don't listen to U2 but thought it was pretty cool to open my iTunes and see it all there.

Jeez, you need to have a drink or a massage or something to calm down.

That hands-in-the-air, triumphant thing Tim did...man, so many weird moments today.

Yeah it's like towing a motorcycle on the back of your car just in case you want to ride it. It's stupid really.
I can see it's usefulness as a sports/fitness accessory but beyond that I'm not feeling it. Analog watches are far more visually appealing imo as well.

So it's basically an iPhone for your wrist. Again, if you have to have an iPhone and an iWatch, why wouldn't you just use your phone?

Watches are pretty much the dumbest thing in tech today and they were just born out of the need to find an extra revenue source for phone manufacturers.

I'm so disappointed in Apple. I'm forced to buy a phablet because I want Optical Image Stabilization :|

The demo for that cinematic image stabilization they have on their website is amazing. People riding skateboards and the camera barely moves. Need to see difference between the two sizes but if the difference is huge I might be forced into the bigger iphone.

Not really.

Tap to pay is only for small amounts. The added security of TouchID should open it up for everything.

TouchID was always planned for that, they just had to get everyone on board.

I don't really care about the album. The part of the presentation where they announced it, however, was completely embarrassing on every level.
