Asian-GAF: We're all the same, like Stormtroopers |OT| |AT|

Why can't Asians mimic our English accent? I can speak English with a Chinese accent just fine... My Korean gf even said so... Harrro, nihao and konichiwa...see?

It reminds me of people who are so amazed when they meet an Asian who speaks English without an accent, or the ones who are so surprised that I can't read, write or translate a word from English to Chinese for them. Even at 30 years old now I had someone at work tell me I speak really good English. NO FUCKING SHIT, I WAS BORN HERE.

I'd say a thread about hot sauce but I'm 99% sure we already had that.

Y'all are killing me, lol. The sad thing is is that we can all see those threads being made. 'So my Asian gf said this' thread being made would be the end-all-be-all to Asian threads :p because we all know how people love Asian women.

I wish I could take credit for the lampooning but my previous post was actually something a white kid asked me a long ass time ago

In his defense, this was all in junior high a long ass time ago

I lied.

But the thread will probably be a brief history of racism against AAs. I have an idea.

if it's gonna get you banned.

The next thread should be titled: Do Asian American's eat rice with every dish or do they assimilate and eat bread? Bwahahahahaha :p Then it goes -> do they eat it with spoons, forks, sporks, or chopsticks?

Don't forget the distinction between good American spoons and funny Chinese spoons

I eat with shurikens.

Speaking I chopsticks, I have a half white, half Indian friend who without asking always gets his chopsticks replaced with a fork every time we go to a Chinese restaurant. The look on his face every time it happens is priceless.

Do all Asian-Americans know Kung Fu? (aka the Karate)

No lie, my father before he left us (fuck you dad) used to be in a gym that teaches kung fu and my brothers and I used go participate in the training regiments. Let's just say he never showed up after the first training session.

So I at least know how to partially fight despite being bitch made :p

Coming up next on Fox: Do all Asian Americans. In which we dive deeper into what all Asian Americans do in their daily lives.

Let's take a look at the Lor family.

Dad: how was school today David?
David: the teacher made us learn how to do division. I hated it.
Dad: oh ok. Math is helpful. How about you Ly?
Ly: prom is coming up dad. Can I get some money before prom?!
Dad: Ly, you know we are having monetary issues right now. Why don't you go work at the grocery store and get some money before prom?
Ly: screw you dad! I don't want to work at that dirty place.
Dad: ok. Honey, how was your day?
Wife: nothing too fancy baby. Lisa was fired today but that's about it.

Actually something I've been curious about is how many of us live in a Western country that isn't the States. I get the impression most here are Asian American as Gaf itself probably has a majority-U.S. demographic.

I would imagine there are a good amount of Canadians.

Whoa, an Asian thread?

Hi guys, I'm Ryan, 18 y/o born and living in Indonesia. I'm currently pursuing a CS degree here.

We're the biggest Islamic country in the world, but luckily the government is kinda half-secular.... Except for one province.

I mostly consumes Japanese media (anime, game, VN). Nice to meet y'all!

Welp, I just finished my breakfast.... lemme grab a picture from Google. Don't worry, it looks really similar with what I ate ;)

It's called "lontong sayur", which is rice cakes and some beans in curry-like soup with optional crackers and boiled eggs-in-chilli-sauce.

I'm actually waking up late today, here school starts from 6.30AM to 7.30AM, and you're supposed to wake up at 5AM or earlier :/

pics of alcoholic beverages

Biiiitch, all I have are empty cans of Coors Light lol. I need to stock up on some good beer soon. I was just drinking a tall boy of Bud Lite and I, again, realize that I just cannot drink or chug Bud Lite anymore or any Lite beer. Their taste is just too nasty for me.

lol, why would I get banned if I made a thread about the history of racism against Asian Americans?

What would it include?

Off the top of my head I can think of the Chinese Exclusion Act, California Alien Land Law of 1913, Vincent Chin murder, Takao Ozawa/Bhagat Singh Thind court cases, and Japanese camps.

Starts with the gold rush, goes into the Chinese Exclusion Act, the biggest massacre in America (barring what happened to the natives), the internment camps / anti Japanese propaganda, etc. I'll probably contrast this to modern examples of racism that goes under.

Not sure about Chin/Ozawa/Singh. Individual cases don't seem like enough, tbh.

Anything else I should act? What I really feel like we need to point out is exactly WHAT the eternal foreigner syndrome is-- and basically, how xenophobia has always been racist when it came to Asian Americans.

Well Chin I think is important since it shows that Asians have been victim of brutality and it is what instigated the creation of the Asian American movement.

Ozawa/Singh is more lesser but I personally I think it is interesting that they denied a Japanese men citizenship because "only Caucasians can get citizenship" but completely flipped that mentality when an Indian tried to use that reasoning to get citizenship.

EDIT: Also the entire Model Minority myth.

It should definitely culminate in links to our favorite diet racist GAF threads.

For the earlier history, it might be worth going into Yellow Peril stereotype stuff to show early examples of how xenophobia was linked to racism.

Are you going to go into any details about stereotypes against Asians? This is a tangential topic, but it's kind of fascinating how Asian men went from being portrayed as horny criminals that wanted to fuck white women to book-smart intellectuals who can't even get near a women.

You could also add a section on the fear of Japanese companies taking out entire industries during their economic boom years.

I don't think the post will get you banned...I think the first people who go "this isn't racism" or "you didn't have to deal with slavery / <insert unspeakably horrible thing>, stop complaining" will provoke a response that gets you banned. :p

Asian Australian here.

I think generally it's similar experience here in Australia, although I've been luckier than most, but same stuff. They still think I'm some kind of an exotic unicorn at some subconscious level.

Wheeeeeeeeeee~

AND WELCOME RYAN! THE FOODPORN GOD ACCEPTS YOUR FOODPORN TRIBUTE! \o/

Yo Asian New Zealander here what up. I've definitely been luckier than most as well, never been told to go back to my own country for example.

Did you use chopsticks?

Except in Chinese/Korean/Japanese/Vietnamese/etc restaurants, Nope.

90% of the time I'm eating with rice, and depending on what goes with it I'm using either spoon or hand. Aand maybe fork for eating noodle.

I don't think our local rice works great with chopstick, they are not sticky so it's hard to use chopstick (or maybe it's only because of my inexperience)

Sadly, I personally think xenophobia, primarily against Chinese, are also strong here too. I mean, one of our biggest nationwide riot is targeting Chinese: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_1998_riots_of_Indonesia

Many people disliked Chinese because they think Chinese are "stealing our wealth", as the majority of billionaires and successful businessmen of Indonesia are from Chinese descent: http://www.forbes.com/indonesia-billionaires/

I'm not a citizen there but I studied in Manchester UK for three years already and those years would serve as my window as a Southeast Asian living as a minority in a western country.

You guys are all doctors and engineers...WTF do you have to complain about?

Funny story, I never knew Engineers were a big deal until I came to UK.

Everyone always talks about Doctors and Lawyers and Businessman where I'm from, never Engineers.
