Assassin's Creed III: Liberation |OT| VITA LA REVOLUTION

Eloquent Princess
Heh heh, I like Aveline a lot already. What a nice balance of being ladylike and then being tough.

Also the music is lovely.

Edit: That white vita! Whoooaaa.

Let's say I tell you that AC3:L does jumping worse than Mega Man. In a world where Mega Man exists, this kind of jumping should not get a free pass.

Has that conveyed some information of worth to you? Are you about to go out and play Mega Man games if you've never been interested in them before, just because they apparently do some portion of the game better than a game you were interested in does?

Are these experiences really comparable because they share certain qualities? Breaking Bad has action and intrigue and killing in it, and it might arguably be a superior overall experience than playing an AC game. Should I not question the logic of a review that tells me "the tension in this game is barely serviceable compared to watching a few hours of Breaking Bad?"

Maybe it's a matter of perspective, and I expect something different from a review. Personally, I wish all reviews discussed a game's control scheme and responsiveness first and foremost, so maybe I'm going into every review defeated to begin with.

See my above response.

Do you think those comparisons are actually analogous to the one's Parish made between stealth assassination games?

Compared to Hitman or Thief, AC isnt even a stealth game/series. Its an action game. So yes, the comparison is equally valid.

Why are so you deeply invested in this Parish person's review?

Because its actually a good piece of gaming journalism? And I've been lurking on GAF for far longer than I've been posting. I'm tired of seeing "lol bias" and such as the most likely engagement with reviews. So, lets talk about it.

With stealth and assassination sequences.

Uh oh.

What stealth though? Shooting a poison dart at someone? Walking up behind someone and stabbing them? That's what I call bare bones stealth, there are 3rd person shooters that do similar things.

Hell I read the RPS review of the new medal of honor game and they said it starts out by sneaking up to someone and killing them from behind. Dat stealth game.

So is Hitman, if you play it that way. And Parish didn't compare it to Thief. Assassin's creed frequently rewards you for killing without being detected. Your point is very much arguable.

Uh oh.

Every heard about the word "focus"? The focus of a game being what makes it as it is? Just because GT5 has the well done photo mode doesnt mean its a photography game.

Yeah, how those elements make it a "Stealth" game is rather ridiculous.

Metacritic is saying 77 atm. Probably more than anyone expected, but I'm sure it'll fall a bit lower than that.

Uh oh.

Aren't you over simplifying the gameplay here? AC was never about, nor will be, similar to titles such as Hitman. It's like saying hey, Uncharted has some stealth sequences, inFamous has some stealth sequences...must deduct points because they do not match the quality of the Hitman stealth sequences! Games just aim for different things.

So is it any good? Should I stick with ACIII on consoles only or is it this worth it?

My VITA is basically a Lumines player for the past few months.

Thanks!

Yeah, that's a particularly strange comparison for him to make. Usually you compare to give gamers a frame of reference. They don't have a frame of reference for a game that's not out yet.

This game is a piece of shit compared to GTAV.

The reviews so far point to it being a solid but not spectacular rendition of the Assassin's Creed formula. If you can afford it, it certainly sounds like a good game to buy if you haven't got a bunch of other Vita stuff to go through.

Surprised to see the average reviews. I'll still buy it. I don't take reviews seriously anymore. GAF consensus has pretty much been my compass. But hey, I guess journalists need to put doritos food on the table too.

I bought AC III for PS3 instead of buying Liberation today.
I wonder how Lib holds up, for those who've played both the console and handheld games?

Having a button where you explicitly blend into a crowd as well as have areas where you can hide until enemies can no longer see you and stop looking (much like Metal Gear Solid, a stealth espionage game) makes me think that the formula for Assassin's Creed takes stealth more seriously than you guys.

The fact that everyone thinks it is more an action game than a stealth game kind of supports Jeremy Parish's assertions that its stealth aspects could do with some improving.

Anyone else think the audio in the game sounds bad? Like muffled?

And it seems like I have to turn the volume all the way up when I have headphones on to get decent volume.

No you are asking for something that was never a part of the series. And we have had quite a few games too. It's like complaining that the combat in GOW is not as deep as DMC. Well that's not a shocker. The developer never meant for it to be focused mainly about the combat aspect like DMC.

I know a review is an opinion but a certain level of objectivity is needed. The complaints you refer to won't hinder the AC3 console game in general because they are held to a different standard for w/e reason. If anything they should get harsher critic because they had the more man power and resources.

And again, what you describe as stealth is just a really watered down mechanic compared to the things you can do series like Hitman. And so I repeat, different games, different approaches. And no, AC DOES NOT take Stealth as seriously as you are believing. The series was never known for nor focused on Stealth. It's like UC, if you do things with stealth, good on ya, you can even get a trophy!

AC is first and foremost, an action game. It's attraction lies mainly on the use of history , open world gameplay and presentation.

Does that mean its stealth mechanics cannot or should not be improved? Are the stealth mechanics off limits for critique? Frankly, Parish's comparison to Dishonored seems incredibly fair. In Dishonored, stealth is available, but it's also a kickass action game.

So it seems that Liberation will get a average score clearly under 80%. Will this result in low sales of Liberation and Vita? I think that Liberation is the one big Vita game for the holidays the other game is Call of Duty Vita, but to be honest, CoD-Vita looks real bad.

Hopefully not. Based on playing the game I'd put it at around a 80-85. Especially when you compare it to the trash that was Bloodlines. It really feels like AC3 in your hand and different in it's own way. If you're an AC nut like I am then yeah no brainer on getting this game.

Are you serious? How the hell does my PSP have better sound than the Vita?

One of the few benefits of PSP using a disc based medium? It's not a problem in every game, but I remember people saying the exact same "muddy sound" about Mortal Kombat as well.

Am I understanding it correctly that this is a stand alone game simply set in the same universe? This is the impression I got from the Op but wanted to make sure before jumping in. I've beaten the first two AC games and plan to start Brotherhood within the week. I'd just like to avoid spoilers for past games but am hoping I can jump into this now. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Those are not bad reviews besides the first one.
