AusGAF 5/5 - Everything's Amazing and Nobody's Happy, a rental at best

That pussy

saved me a lot of money and anger.

You may be joking but enthusiast game sites are infinitely more reliable than the games industry pr press. They broke all the big stories this gen, from rrod, xbl and psn hacks, skyrim being broken, ea stealing games, bioware stealing games etc. And reviews are much better too; you just have to wait a few weeks.

Generally I just read GAF. Candid opinions (in between 10 posts of shit) and anything worth reading is usually linked by someone. Saves time too.

If something pops up in twitter, like Vooks review of Sonic Generations on 3DS I will give it a quick squizz.

Also I read on GAF or maybe one of the RPS Wot Made Me posts the most awesome thing that I have only done a few times this generation. That moment when you realise that the end of the game is near and you slow down because you know how depressed you will be the next day when you don't have more fresh content to devour. Deus Ex 3 had this for me, same with The Witcher 2. Portal 2 to a lesser extent as the puzzles were mediocre and served only to introduce more story. Fuck, getting to that final Witcher 2 area was depressing, especially since it was so short (at least it had 2 decent length changes depending on the choice you made). Strangely enough MW3 had it for me too. Once a certain character died it took the wind out of my sail and it wasn't until the very final level that I got over it. Very effective I would say.

EDIT: ALREADY HIT 41.1 DEGREES IT IS TOO HOT FOR THIS STEAMY TOWN AND MY BURN

Predictions
1. Too many peoplw will continue to care too much about hl3 and will predict whatever they want the truth to be and no one will accept that mayne vavle arnt going to make one because people are crazy.
2. Valve will make lots more money off dota2. Laugh at everyone then pull the 1 intern they have working on hl3 crowbar textures off and stick him with the rest of the team in working on how to get even more money.
3. I will finish fma:b by the end of the week and enjoy it.
4. I will attempt to play more batman but wont enjoy it.
5. I wont be there for dnd and EVERYONE will
enjoy that.
Lets see how many of those become true.

My son has now pressed the green button on the Xbox twice now while deep into Assassins Tombs (or whatever the hell they are called in this one) in AssCreedBro. Not amused.

Our aircon is really starting to struggle to keep the place cool.

Tiny air con in the lounge is doing great for that room but down here in the "study" it sure is uncomfortable. Circular fan only does so much. Maxed out at 41.8.

Been reading the Waiting For Destiny fansite. Has been the most enjoyable Bungie related thing for a long time. I really only liked Halo CE and Reach. Destiny looks fuck off awesome though. Will bust a nut if it releases on PC and that Grognuk is released as a level editor for us.

Just read through that. Damn cool. I loves me some Halo, so I'm looking forward to seeing what they do next.

One of the things Bungie does best is creating a cool universe, so some kind of MMO type thing would be pretty rad. Although I doubt it will be a proper MMORPG with Activision on board. Don't think they'd want to compete with themselves with Warcraft.

360s are cheap now. Buy a second one, hook it up to power but don't actually connect it to anything else. That way he can switch it on and off to his heart's content! Hell, even just buy an RROD one from eBay for $20 as it already has that oh-so-appealing flashing red light! Kiddie magnet!

lol my old one works fine. Would get even MORE hot in here though.

Also I was going to ask if you were okay after I heard on the news that like 160 people had been arrested at Summerdayz lol

EDIT: I love water_wendi threads. Not a troll, just someone very extremist in their beliefs.

Cheers! Yeah, it was FUCKING HOT and my friends and I spent most of the day hunting around for shade and perspiring like motherfuckers (not to mention the gritty, icky, goopy, dirty sunscreen-skin that comes from a day of reapplying SPF 1,000,000+ due to paranoia) but I didn't get burnt at all and I'm still alive, so I guess everything went okay! Pendulum rocked it, as did Moby's DJ set and (possibly unknown to you) Radioslave. Pendulum even played their remix of Voodoo People AND the old ABC News theme.

Currently residing in Struggletown though, but I have raspberry bullets, ham and cheese hot pockets and some chocolate jam donuts as well as that Monteith's apple cider to keep me company.

Oh, and an air conditioner!

And plenty of Steam games, too... ended up getting LA Noire, but before seeing your comments. I was seedy AND it was only $12.50 (plus tip) and I'm hoping a patch will come (ahahaha R*. I mean unofficial or ENB mod) to unlock infinite FPS and better gameplay.

Don't get me wrong, it isn't a crappy game or anything. Just wouldn't call it good. It is more linear than the already straight forward Mafia 2 and the controls are flat out horrible. Like, even worse than walk in the mud GTA4. The best part about it is the crime scene investigations but after the 5th or 6th you notice how they are basically all the same with a different dress on. The story is entertaining enough but has some very poor attempts at getting an emotional response out of the player, just seemed half arsed like a first draft or something. Characters come and go without any major depth behind their actions or even emotion attached to what is going on. Similar to the disconnect between the gameplay and story in Crysis 2. It is pretty long though and the facial tech was amusing for the first 2 hours or so. I didn't overly enjoy it after the 5th hour or so and was playing mainly for completion. Would give it only 2 or 3 out of 5, would need another play to see if I just don't remember it fondly enough for a 3.

Yeah, I'm gonna play it with the expectation of it being basically a laserdisc/MegaCD/Access Software-esque game, but with comparatively awesome tech that's woefully underutilised.

Predictions!
1. Xbox 3 is announced at CES for release 'holiday season' this year with integrated Kinect 2... but Feb/Mar 2013 for Australia.
2. WiiU struggles for first six months until Nintendo realises the casual audience doesn't care about it. Online functionality makes the same sort of 'mistakes' as it has in the past.
3. Valve learns to count to 3, by announcing L4D3.
4. The Old Republic launches some sort of free to play option to combat sluggish sales.
5. The Last Guardian misses 2012.

Resolutions!
1. Continue Project Backlog*, as I finished something like 17 24 games in 2011.
2. Try more Japanese and indie games I might not have otherwise considered in the past.
3. Upgrade my PC (or at the very least, get a new mouse).

* Finish two outstanding games, and I can buy one. Vouchers/gifts, games under $5 or highly anticipated games are excluded.

My lord, it's still so hot! I had the aircon on all day, turned it off and opened the doors because it's nighttime which is traditionally, you know, COOLER... and it's not. I check the weather app on my phone and the nearest weather station is reporting 32C. WTF, God?!?

Tintin was fucking amazing guys

Some people have said it lacks heart. I guess in some ways it does, it feels very much like a pure adventure movie, BUT THAT'S ALL I WANT DUDES

Today I played more Ace Combat 3DS. It's a complete copy of Ace Combat 2 on PS1, only with a new lick of paint. And its awesome.

I don't get it.....

BOM says that humidity is only 22 percent..... shouldn't that mean cooler nights? >_>

No - it depends on windspeed and air temp as well. (Protip - google "apparent temperature")

For example - high temp + high humidity + light winds = Darwin during buildup = muggy as fuck

high temp + low humidity + high windspeed = dry and warm. Tolerance depends I guess.

Ive found the ideal weather is either:
28 degrees, 70% humidity and a 15kt wind with a few clouds = best day weather

or

5 degrees, 80% humidity or higher, and 30kt winds. And raining all night = best night weather.

Also - for cooler nights you need a bit of wind and clear skies.

Article arguing for 130km/h on the Hume highway.

Currently, though, the dual carriageway freeway can pose more dangers with fatigue than crawling over the at times tediously modest limit.

110 km/h is tediously modest, yo.

Vince knows what is up.

Also I am getting the shits with AssCree Bro. It does some things worse than AssCree 2 and I just can't accept that. Lot of content but it needed another 6 months polish. 3/5

Incidentally - best weather is on Cocos-Keeling Islands. Never gets hotter than 32 either, since its surrounded by ocean.

edit: or Lord Howe Island.

I actually preferred it back on the farm, it get up around 45 but it is such a dry heat that you don't get all sticky and eh. Just need to keep hydrated and keep in the shade.

On the coast it is so damn humid and stuffy. I don't actually sweat under the arms, just generally get yucky all over coming straight out of the pores. Ick.

Also started to rain a bit outside but there has been no wind so it is still damn hot in here.

Also tomorrow I have to go back to work.

:(

To describe the feeling of getting stuck behind someone doing 110 in the right lane, tedium is quite the understatement.
True at any speed though. New Years Eve driving was fucking horrible. GET OUT OF MY WAY OLD PEOPLE, I NEED TO LET MY KID RIDE A TRAIN AND EAT MARSHMALLOWS.

Actually, in combination with better road design (not ruler straight for 100's of km's at a time), a speed limit of 140-150 can be safer than what we have at the moment.

32 here. I don't mind the heat. In fact I love it but I have work tomorrow. I'll be dripping in sweat. Stupid uniform.

Born in a cold wet place, raised in a cold wet place, now living in Adelaide. I think I may have done something wrong there...

It is on that road. Most of the traffic does 120 anyway. To describe the feeling of getting stuck behind someone doing 110 in the right lane, tedium is quite the understatement.

Oh pur-lease

120ers in the right lane that insist on tail-gating when I'm overtaking a line of 100ers at 110 can -- can... slow down.

Fuck, seriously? Reasonably, you'd expect people on average to break that up into two 4-hour parts, if they wanted to do it in a day. According to Wikipedia it's roughly 880km. At 110kph, there's your 4 hours. At 130kph, it'd be around 6hrs 45min. Lunch break after 4 hours, do they really think fatigue would be an issue if you're saving a little over an hour on the trip? Jesus Christ that's pathetic.

Tedium is being stuck behind two road trains and grey nomads in caravans doing 80kph when you are 2 hours into a 700km drive.

Terror is coming around a corner and seeing a roadtrain overtaking a grey nomad in a caravan on a two lane highway, on a raised road over floodplains.

Surprise is coming around a corner on a highway and being run off the road by a police car, then seeing the reason: one of those big mining tonka trucks being carried on a road train.

WA roads are nuts.

People can't handle driving at 100 around here, let alone higher. I would feel more comfortable with the idea of raising speed limits if we make old people take driving tests more often.

You're really not going to like Revelations... so don't play it
...crap. I love the story and love the art and the design of the world. So much love goes into it but damn. Frustrating. Several missions towards the end that just lacked polish and play testing.

I just got time to say Happy New Years AusGAF! Hope you all had a great one, whether it was lurking about on Steam chat or out and about.

I had a great one with my girlfriend, her dad and her family/cousins. Got super drunk and played guitar for people and had singalongs and yeah. Great, amazing times.

So what's everyone's resolutions, if any? Mine is to be less of a grumpy shit to my family/girlfriend, spend more time with both, spend more time coding, less time in bed in the morning, less time eating fast food and to start exercising.

Best part is, I know I can do all these things. So yeah, what's your new years resolution's GAFtown?

High speed rail what? Seriously though any of the freeways here in Melbourne during the day are disasters waiting to happen way too many semi-trailers moving things that should be moved by freight trains. There were episodes of the national interest that covered the freight issue and the high speed rail conundrum but I've seemingly forgotten the substance of both other then that they exist

HolyCheck

I want a tag give me a tag
freeways between towns ie between melb and mount gambier, mount gambier and adelaide and shiz, should be increased to 140... would be so much quicker

VOOK

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.
Drink and all :D

Also you are all up late.

I'm always up late. It's my favourite drink, Frozen Coke ;D

I just realised there are time differences.. :( Well, my excuse is that it's gonna be terribly hot here today, so the less I'm conscious of that, the better.

Is that really you? What kind of glasses are those?

That's me in 3D Glasses from the movies.
