I think Tomic vs Federer will be very interesting. I want to see who the crowd supports. Everyone always seems to love Federer but Tomic is Australian.

Making tacos de carne asada (and tacos de pollo asada as the wife doesn't eat beef, currently marinating in home made mojo) tonight for dinner, along with home made pico de gallo, guacamole and tortillas.

If anyone cares I'll post photos and maybe the recipe later.

Also these arrived in the mail this past week, so the wife and I watched an anaglyph (the old style red/blue) 3D movie last night. Was great fun!

How the hell do you get banned in a religion thread? I've seen dickheads get away with saying "people who get abortions should die". In this week alone.

At work we we're going to do some "World food day" thing this Wednesday just for shits and giggles, since most people are taking the Friday off as well as Thursday.

In Brisbane now, but from Adelaide, I wanted to pick up some Frog Cakes which are a very Aouth Aussie type of thing:

Unfortunately, I don't think Balfours even sell them up here in Brisbane! Any idea of a specialty cake shops around that might do this sort of thing?

Nah sorry. Im no good with 5.1 etc. As for the speakers they are supposed to be good, though the styling is a bit so so.
S'all good, friend! Thanks to your link to stereo.net.au, found a guy who looks like he's still selling a basic Klipsch satellite 5.1 dealio for ultra cheap. Will use the sats to replace my Logitech ones and the sub will act as a perfect fill-in for the PC (which is currently only running those Yamaha monitors I've mentioned before). Not amazing but should fill in nicely until I can score the matching (or close to it) Yamaha sub.

It's true. South Australia really is another world.

Glad I could help.

I especially liked that one about Dian Fossey.

Not so much of a fan about the guerrillas taking over the world. Damn dirty apes.

Yeah, that thread is already way off its initial topic, still religion, but that's about it. Oh well. Let us never question publicly our overlords ;)

They sold those in Sydney. At least, they did at the bakery near me when I grew up.

They are amazing.

I think the pokies trial in ACT is a great idea. Problem gamblers will do their business over in NSW and the government can use the loss in revenues reported by ACT pokies and the lower number of problem gamblers to show that the reform should be made nation wide.

Wow, pokies deal falls through, Wilkie walks away (as he should, given his promises).

Some general musings:

1. Why do they have to do a trial period for poker reform, when there already is a known working model for a state without poker machines (WA)?

2. What will Adam Bandt do, given these comments from his Senate counterpart:

Greens spokesman for gambling Senator Richard Di Natale says the Government's decision will set poker machine reform back for decades.

He says the decision is spineless.

"Today is a sad day for anyone who believes in social justice in this country," he said.

"It's a sad day for the ordinary battlers that the Labor Party once represented, and it's a sad day for people whose lives are shattered from problem gambling."

Because Wilkie's decision leaves the gov't majority at 1. Bandt essentially holds the balance of power now.

You don't need a trial. Just look at WA: casinos have pokies, clubs don't. And FWIW, you actually get to hear live music at clubs here, instead of the mindless ching-kachinking of coins and that fucking annoying music pokies play.

BTW:

If anyone on this forum is this guy:

... then you're a cunt.

I agree we don't need it. If I was in power that shit would be locked down and you would need a licence to buy cigarettes.
It was a better move for Gillard than adopting what Wilkie wanted, the gamble is how much fallout will come from backflipping. Following through would have cost her more grief. She took the easy way out, that easy way out will hopefully mean the measures are delayed rather than shut down. As long as the people who evaluate the trial and are in power at the time can take the numbers and run with them to the populace to get it through.

If the coalition win the next election, which is next year at the latest, then they will scrap the trial if they hold true to their word on the issue. Basically what has happened is there was one shot at this, it failed, and it will probably be 20 years til another chance arises.

I hope every club in NSW and QLD that backed this lobby group goes bankrupt.

I am indifferent to this whole gambling thing and it doesn't seem like a very pressing issue. I think if people want to lose all their money gambling then it's their own choice and their right to use their money however they want.

Gambling addiction is another addiction. We try and prevent drug addiction so why not gambling? The worst thing is seeing families out living on the street eating dog shit for lunch because their mother/father are gambling addicts and haven't volunteered for expulsion.

That's fine, but if that is the case, why is anything that is not theft or harm illegal? Better legalise all the drugs, all the (consenual) sex, and all the lifestyles. There is also the issue of children of addicted gamlblers, who are very negatively impacted by this and then have resultingly shittier lives.

You know what mandatory pre commitment is, right? No one is saying they can't use their money however they want, they just want limit when the decision to spend all their money gets made.

That's fine then, as I said I'm indifferent to the whole thing and haven't been paying much attention to it. These people can probably just drive 10 mins to the next RSL and start again if they really want to spend more right?

Of course it's their choice.

And the pre-commitment laws would have made it so.

At the minute, it's way too easy for an addict to get sucked in and it becomes very hard for an addict to say no. Poker machines and the areas they operate in are designed for this to be the case.

Tomic reacted to that and probably was "about" to challenge and looked at the umpire to confirm whether it was a real or fake call...... then he continued playing.

Late to reply because I was out all day, but I think this is unlikely.

If the ball was out, it would mean that Tomic won the point. Why would he challenge this? That would be up to Dolgopolov.

Tomic clearly went to challenge, but the umpire didn't see this. Dolgopolov did, lost the point, then Tomic pretended he didn't challenge since this would win him the point. It's a sleazy thing to do and he was caught on camera doing it.

The pokie issue is quite serious, and coming from someone who spent almost a decade of their life working in clubs and pubs where poker machines were the main source of income (as well as seeing the effect it caused upon others), I am surprised at those who support the freedom of whatever lobby group is advocating the government to leave them alone.

The whole thing is disgusting. I've seen people who rely solely upon poker machines as a means of living, to those who would inject thousands in to their "favourite machines" to gain the jackpot somehow. The worst ones were those who came in the following morning to try and catch up on their losses, not knowing that the machines operated upon distributed ratio that was completely random on payouts. Some days Fridays would pay out, other times it would stretch over Mondays to Wednesdays due to them being the slowest days in the week. There obviously needs to be more strict intervention than what the current government is proposing, and what the RSG advocates in current laws regarding self-exclusion practises.

Then again I am more upset at Tony Abbott trying to stoke the asylum seeker debate once more. Surely this man must be told that what he is stating is flirting with international law sanctioned by the United Nations. Liberal Party advisers need to be reminded that generational change will occur and that the older generational mindset of "illegal immigrants stealing our shopping trolley collection jobs!" is nothing more than a joke.
