I guess I've never understood ban requests. Conventional wisdom would be to never burn any bridges. Just step away for a while. There aren't any chains forcing a person to visit the site every day, or to come back at all if that's what a person really wants. When we had the great schism a while ago I thought all the ban requests at that time were a bit melodramatic. Thankfully ban requests aren't something we see on a regular basis.

I really have to give props to the mod team for how they handled this one. Sure we are all human and right or wrong we may not agree with everything someone does, but as being part of several forums present and the past, GAF has always been the gold standard of harvesting a healthy community. OP I hope you come back after a break. I get it we all need to step away for a while.

I agree. It's kind of weird seeing grown ass people (who presumably have jobs) beg for a membership that isn't that expensive in the first place.What's actually funnier than OP is people begging for gold.
Literally every other service I'm subscribed to (for example, movie or music streaming services) is more expensive than GAF Gold. In many cases, much more expensive. So for me it was easy to buy my own Gold because it's relatively cheap, and more importantly I also believe in what GAF is about.
But hey, the fact that we have people willing to gift Gold is awesome, so I won't hate on that

Yeah, like, I understand addictive personalities, but it's not like gambling or drugs. I've never heard a cautionary tale about the man who lost his job, wife and house because he was too busy fucking around on GAF OT shitposting and spending his entire paycheck on gold subscriptions.
Then again, I kind of hope that happens because it would be fucking hilarious.
Internet addiction is no different to any other form of addiction. Too much of anything can be a bad thing.

Being a former addict (of drugs, not the internet) I think I'd have to disagree with you. I mean, yes, I'm sure in extreme cases (and every example of anything has extreme cases) it can be deleterious towards keeping your real life shit straight, but chemical addiction is a different beast, if only because of the physical and mental affects of both being addicted and trying to kick said addiction.
Addictive personality sucks, though. I feel for anyone dealing with something that impedes their own personal prosperity.

I've met people who have become so absorbed in their online presence, that it actually replaced their physical, real life. They began to believe everything they said online, and would concoct this perfect little life online because their own lives are so miserable. It might not have a physical effect on them, but it can several fuck them up mentally.
