And here I thought the Verhoeven quote would be hard to top.
Grant Morrison "raped" Batman to establish complex emotional relationships with other characters, most notably his son, Talia, and Robin. It added new depth for storytelling purposes, as among other things Batman now wanted to make peace with a villain for the sake of his son. This is in direct contrast with his stated mission of fighting crime. He suddenly has to choose between Gotham and something he cares about just as much, if not more. It led to new dramatic possibilities, dozens of new characters, and all sorts of expansion of the Batman mythos.
Snyder actually specifically said he wants Batman to get raped in prison. It's edgelord nonsense. What interesting new angles is prison rape going to give your Batman story? He's already a victim, that's the origin of his crusade!
(Grant Morrison didn't actually write the Son of the Demon story -- your whole rape thing -- but like the rest of Batman's continuity he didn't ignore it either. That's like saying Morrison killed Batman's parents or
made an alien kill Robin.)
