I have held DICE at one of the highest of standard in terms of fun, sound, graphics for close to 10 yrs but they along with a majority of any AAA dev. are nothing but copy/paste boring AF mod devs. They offer nothing new or any sort of innovation, nothing.

I mean, for any fan of the series it's a legitimate complaint. Even in the SkillUp video he talks about how they feel out of place and cheesy. That it almost feels like playing Overwatch on a grander scale, rather than a Battlefield title. I mean, a specialist that can see enemies through walls and farm kills with a turret does sound pretty bizarre in a BF title.

I do think it's particularly amusing that they've apparently slapped class titles on the specialists, but it serves zero purpose, lmao.

But again, as someone that has adored the series since its existence, and preordered, I'm sure I'll enjoy my time with it. Even if majority of it is in Portal.
This is a classic example of GAAS changing the core of a beloved series. They're chasing the trend and want to sell skins. I wish live services never happened because most of the changes they've brought to gaming have been for the worse

And they release their games unfinished while charging more than ever and putting live service shenanigans front and center.

never trusting battlefield reviews again.....after BF1 got great scores. And that game was the beginning of the end of this series. (well the actual downfall started with the star wars game)

I don't know what to tell you bud. BF1 on here is liked by many and went on to become the best selling BF title in history.... I don't know how the beginning of the end, is the best selling series and one many love lol I personally don't like BF1 compared to the others, but I can't fucking pretend NO ONE LIKE ITS and its the um "BEGINNING OF THE END "and or "DOOM GLOOM OH NOEZ" etc. It sounds exaggerative and a bit too hyperbolic

Even the Star Wars game, you mean the fucking best selling Star Wars Game in history sir? ok pal lol

It tells me maybe those reviews are spot on and you being triggered by something doesn't automatically mean the review was false. I personally didn't really care for BF1, someone else did though, by the tune of 20 plus million ...thus I believe those reviews are just, even if I personally don't like the game as much as others do.

So this isn't about "trust" as games are subjective, someone can LOVE Hades and give it a 10 and you and I or anyone can hate the game and be like "oh dear how can I TRUST reviews" lol Buy what you like man, the review is the view of that person, it doesn't automatically mean what they like, will be what you like, thus this whole "trust" thing sounds absurd. I simply trust them to play the game and give a honest response, not fucking be mind readers. I say this a person that literally is telling you I don't care for BF1 as much as the others.

I never once fucking argued against the reviewers or those who like the game with this whole "trust" thing lol

If they had just redone BF4 with next gen graphics I would've been a lot happier and would've bought it day 1

Portal will likely see those BF4 maps and tbh...you'll get that concept with the actual options to adjust what you like in the first place.

So a BF4 "redone" would likely just be BF4 in a new engine, how the fuck do you know it would have been BF4 with actual options to change features like what Portal is doing? Look at COD4 remaster, can you swap out features like perks in a server and mix and match old rules with new rules etc?

So I'd say this is much better then even a BF4 "redone" as when they add those maps, you can make that BF4 exactly what you want vs a remaster of sorts like what you saw with COD4 remaster.

Its why I'm puzzled at those asking for such things when Portal is literally better then what you are asking for. Look at all the people bitching about GTA trilogy, does that game give you the option of using all the features and rules of the past GTAs? Yet we are asking for BF4 to be redone vs understanding that Portal is giving you something more?

Lets say we remake BF4, how do I know you won't just cry when see new weapons? Different gadgets? New features? Sir...again, look at how people are reacting to GTA, Portal literally lets you make that down to map selection, BF title, rules like prone or not, what weapons get used, power of weapons etc. A redone of BF4 isn't what Portal is, Portal is better cause YOU can get that very remake YOU are asking for the way YOU want.

Do some of you not get this? Portal is such an amazing feature, it sad to see the community as disrespectful as this on something you'll be praising in 10 years asking for it to be a default feature in not just BF titles, but MP titles at all. Appereicate what that actually is before demanding something else, what you asked for might make more sense in Portal then for DICE to do it as we all know everyone won't agree with how a remake is done, fucking do it yourself in Portal so you get what you want in the first place lol

"we all spawned with a rocket launcher loaded with one rocket, and each time we fired, we had to jump five times to get a new rocket. We also played free-for-all with Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 1942 guns, regular Battlefield 1942 Conquest on remade versions of Battle of the Bulge and El Alamein maps, Battlefield 3 conquest on a Caspian Border remake, and BC2's Rush mode on BC2 maps that I don't know because I didn't play that one."

This is easily one of the wildest modes I've ever seen added in any game period let alone BF. Portal is now going to be the term used when we ask for some company to give us that power to merge the concepts of older games to something else entirely.

As a BF4 fan myself who got it day 1 with my PS4...I remember that launch being horrid and rushed, I remember the maps being paid DLC, over time it became the most beloved BF title after those issues ironed out. This game is not only delayed to skip launch to give DICE more time to avoid that shit and understand the hardware, you got free maps vs paid, we got Portal vs nothing. At the very least, give this game the chance to earn that respect as BF4 did.

Basically so far the BEST thing about Battlefield 2042 is Battlefield 1942, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3 within Portal.

From what I see, its worth it for that alone. If they do some mega Portal game where its all the BF content from the past games in some crazy alternate universe, that would be just as wild and at this point likely going to happen down the line. Portal is not just be best thing for BF, its the best thing for gaming period. Let it become massively popular so other publishers see the value in allow consumers to craft such things. Imagine if Rockstar let us select a GTA, had rules of one GTA and features of another down to movement, weapons, vehicles etc How could anyone complain about some of those GTA Trilogy features if it was simply optional and could be edited by users and mixed and matched?

So I expect in the next few years to see COD have a Portal type mode too and other titles. I expect this is a feature that in the next few generations, thats the mode people will expect and ask where it is if a game doesn't have it.

Does EA Play Pro members get access to the full game or is it 10 hours until release next week?

Just dropped cash on fucking wheels for my car now this game comes out of nowhere. Bastards.

A very solid review.

Can't wait to play it!

I hope they update Hazard Zone based on what the review is saying to make it more balanced, but I feel most of my time will be in conquest and Portal mode anyway lol, but I am eager to try out a new mode.

So the majority of bugs and problems from the beta are still there and they've made other things worse.

Conquest looks like a drag this time around but not gonna lie, Portal looks so fucking amazing.
Unfortunately my PC cant really handle it right now and I dont play FPS's on consoles, so I'll have to wait a year. But seeing how the game performance atm I think I can live with that.

Stevivor 4.5/10

Holy crap was this a review of the open beta or the full retail release :(

I was so hoping all these issues would get ironed out but apparently nope.

Played about 2 hours tonight (Only All Out War so far) and damn is it fun!

Breakthrough with 128 players is INSANE and intense. Conquest feels mostly the same, but with bigger groups taking flags. Gunplay with the PS5 haptics feels fantastic. Gun sounds are amazing. The DMR is super satisfying to use (I actually prefer iron sights on it). Haven't played most of the specialists yet, but really liking Boris and Angel.

In terms of performance I haven't experienced any frame drops and have had zero graphical glitches outside of an invisible gun on the end of match screen.

I have all of Friday off of work and plan to spend lots of it on 2042. Going to play some Portal and maybe try out Hazard Zone.

Thats nice to hear, so basically not like BF4 launch? lol

Looks like the delay was worth it not to rush this. I like the choice to not launch this along side PS5 and Series X, let DICE get used to the hardware and let them make the game in peace and they do wonders, I still like BF4, but I wish its launch wasn't so crazy.

I don't know when I'll get the chance to play it myself as my schedule is pretty packed as of late. Hoping I get some time with it ending of this month or next month.

Yeah I understand. And at least so far on PS5 this launch is looking really good!

You'll find some time to play and have some good times ahead!

They should just contract this game out to studio's that actually give a shit about PC performance, This is a total joke on PC. Folks with a 5950X & 3090's dipping below 60 in some instances.

Played 3-4 games on my XSX with the trial

Game is looking good, performance ok, feeling good and not even a single glitch or bug for now.

Awesome battlefield moments all around, maybe some balancing issues but considering that game is not yet "out" I can say that this seems a pretty polished product.

Considering buying it, maybe not day1 to avoid server crashes and downtimes and first wave of patches, but before the end of the year and so on I see myself putting in it hundreds of hours like on BF4

Only negative thing for me: hud too cluttered with useless message banners all around, and as for now there is no way to change them size or disable

Strong buying temptation for me right now, but I have to stay strong and wait for it to grow just a little from the afterlaunch aftermath that inevitably will come...

Damn thats crazy, I was expecting a launch with lots of performance issues on next gen with those systems being newer and all, but sounds like it was the right call to skip next gen launch and have it come out this year instead. I hope that becomes a standard by EA going forward as we need not of launches with EA trying to fucking rush all major IP out to get day 1 next gen buyers lol

So I played more this morning and it’s starting to grow on me. Portal is where it’s at and I could play that shit all day.

I’ve only played conquest for 2042 but the constant down time between objectives in this game isn’t great at all. I’m gonna give Breakthrough a shot later as I’m sure that’ll be more fun.

I was initially pretty down on this but I can see myself picking it up pretty soon to get in on that Portal gameplay. 1942 in particular is awesome.

I'm kind of disliking every mode, portal included. The older guns don't feel right - it's like they're all just reskinned 2042 guns without their own balance/feel. I didn't necessarily expect them to feel 100% faithful, but these go a little too far IMO. Attachments don't seem to work at all in BC2/BF3.

I'm sad right now.

I got the ultimate edition for the price of the standard edition. Weekend off. I miss battlefield

80 average is indeed better than the last entry but still it is way lower than what used to be.

BTW the lack of console review is astronomic… seems like they want to hide something… but that is DICE that is used to game break bugs at release.

How does anyone care about reviews for games like this now? Especially from normal outlets. Only people worth writing reviews are the insane people who only do BF content. There is no campaign etc. Most people will know if they like it or not.

I feel like games as a service don't need or care about reviews anymore.

Does the xp you earn during portal still count towards everything or is it a completely separate deal?

Well the gunplay on all recent cods is light years ahead. And warzone is better then any battlefield mode by itself. Plus there's a new map coming. I'm enjoying battlefield 2042 after 5 hours but let's be realistic here. Cod has the upper hand these days.
Upper hand in popularity, but thats about it. Explain to me what aspects of CODs gunplay make it next level ?

apparently people are doing xp farms in portal now as we speak. so yes its all in one pot of xp if that is what you wanted tyo know.
They just released a patch a few hours ago trying to address the XP farming

Some of the portal "farming" servers have been pretty funny as I joined one last night with a friend and you spawned in with 1 health point and waves of enemies ran at you with super high health and all you had was a pistol

Playing the BF3 maps and playmodes will be wicked with the portal system. This might be the best BF ever from the looks of, maybe even beating out BF4 due to the portal system adding some much variation to it.

Played some original 1942 maps last night was a blast.

Portal might be the only reason I buy this game, not impressed with the launch game itself

From the other thread my impressions:

Played some of this , this morning and over lunch so limited impressions but here goes:

(PS5)

+Massive step up from beta
+Graphically very impressive, definitely looks more impressive than Vanguard - im not sure but it looks like they are using a more advanced version of the framework used in Battlefront.
+Huge huge maps, lots of freedom and has a next gen feel to it
+Nice sharp gunplay and excellently done haptics (slightly toned down from beta)
+Portal has blown my mind, having three additional sub game maps on top of the full fledged 2042 game
+Each portal game type is its own self contained game with rules and items - very very impressed, hope they continue to expand this, can see it taking over from the standard game
+Hazard Zone is excellent, if you have a group and you play often this will be very popular and seems to have a tactical emphasis over something like Warzone and has been very well thought out, although I died pretty quick.
+Sound is phenomenal, its very directive and full of punch and has that kind of relaxing element in the menus and incredible detail in the actual gameplay
+I actually don't mind the specialists?

-No Voice comms, was especially tricky in Hazard Zone
-Only one map per portal, but considering the package on offer and the promise of more, very impressive
-The overlay in portal is always the same so even though you are fighting WW2 style arena you'll have a futuristic graphical overlay, would like to see this adjustable as a theme.

Overall loving it in my short time with it, if I had one shooter to buy between this and COD, Id go for this.

So, a lot of the bugs I noticed on PC during beta have been fixed. Some still remain, as well as some others, but the most glaring ones appear to be fixed.

Performance is... strange. Sometimes it's pretty solid, sometimes it feels like it could be better. It really does feel like DLSS almost does nothing. Whereas in other titles it can sometimes make a night and day difference.

I've enjoyed what I played enough this AM to keep playing. Stoked about giving Portal a shot though!

Awe mate. Trust me this is my first year sweating cod properly after playing the series since 2006 on the ps2. I use the bumper jumper tactical flipped layout and fuck me the things you can pull off. Slick jump shots, drop shots, slide cancelling around a corner while aiming. It can be poetry in motion.

Battlefield is much clunkier and slower despite them trying to copy cod but you know what I don't mind. It's good to have two different games that play differently.

I'll get my battlefield buzz by working as a squad taking over objectives. Where's as warzone or cod I get a thrill from wiping out 3 guys by myself or going on a 20 killstreak in Multiplayer.
