I get why Nintendo went this way, since they really can't compete on a pure power front with the other two big players. But damn, that's one ugly console and the gimmick just doesn't seem all that mind-blowing.
So I can play console games on the go? Okay. Fantastic. Do I really want to? I mean, when I'm on the go, I'm usually only looking for a brief distraction; a bite-sized bit of fun, like I get with a mobile game on my phone. Plus, with my phone, when I'm bored, I can surf the web, study for an upcoming test, check my bank statement, photoshop a picture, or do any number of other things.
My point is, I can't see the benefit of this. Mobile phone gaming took off the way it did (and has weakened the stand-alone handheld market in the process) because it offers short bursts of entertainment on a device that does much, much more than games. Which leaves the Switch vulnerable to being ignored by the mobile market.
