I don't know much about hardware numbers, because that isn't what I enjoy about a console.

But how is it possible to have something with this much graphics processing power in such a small, portable bundle?

I mean this thing is supposed to run PS4 quality games?

Am I the only one who is shocked that this is possible?

I think 3DS will be supported for 2017 but then be dropped.

And for fall 2018 Nintendo will bring out Switch Go which is basically a smaller version without a dock and controls are not detachable. This would be basically their new handheld.

Seems logical. I'd imagine there's also going to be a Switch Pro in late '18/early '19 which is for new premium customers. Switch Pro will be a Switch bundled with the first SCD dock. Existing users would be able to buy the SCD standalone for $99-$150.

That is not a handheld. It's best described as a portable, perhaps. You can easily carry it from room to room, but this is not a small device that you casually bring along. Heck, even the 3DS XL and Vita are pushing the size envelope for a handheld. Switch is beyond that envelope completely.

Nintendo console names at this point are almost irrelevant. When Nintendo announced "Wii" as the console name we couldn't believe it and made fun of it endlessly for weeks and weeks. But then eventually it just becomes one with the system and works, almost organically. The same will be for Switch.

I should have said physical BC. Digital BC could certainly be in there but as somebody who has 1 digital Wii U game out of a library of 50+ titles, it would be of little use to me.

Nintendo Switch...I get why Nintendo picked this name but I'll be damned if it isn't terrible. Oh well, could be worse.

As for the concept itself, I rather like the premise but I don't see myself jumping back into the Nintendo wagon anytime soon. There will have to be a really impressive library of games for me to get this console.

Like everything about the console they have shown so far except for the color. Really wish they would bring back a Funtastic line, or at least Indigo and Orange Spice. Hope before the release they offer some color options.

Yep.. that's where they totally bungled it. A real disconnect between the ironic / kitchy millennials portrayed in the promo and the slate / asphalt colored Logitech PC peripheral-looking hardware. Snapchat spectacles captured a much better mood:

I don't think Nintendo will bother with simple power upgrades unless it's just the ext console.

I expect the following

Switch
Switch Micro - pocketable for proper handheld gamers
Switch XL - people who like the local play factor on the tablet, bigger sized detachable controllers for comfortable use. Larger screen for a more immerse experience

I hope the dock has room for a swappable hard drive. I love the portable aspect but some of these really large games I think wouldn't be as viable to take on the go. Since it's a home console primarily. (I know, PR speak.)

Or I suppose you can use the USB ports for external drives to install games to, like the Wii U and XBO.

I'm kinda stunned.

Individually, the components aren't anything groundbreaking, but as a package? Bravo Nintendo.

What a fantastic addition to the market place. The Wii ended up killing what was a four generation streak of me being a Ninty only kinda guy. I may just add one of these alongside my existing console.

The portability of the thing definitely finds itself as an unexpected USP I never knew I wanted from a home console. Rather than being the centre of your living room, it can be the device that follows your round the house, much like our phones and tablets.

Add to that Nintendo's potential first party offerings and well...

We still don't know, and probably won't know for sure for a few more months.

Zlatan, an user from Anandtech and apparently "in the know", claims the Switch is "3 times slower" than the Xbox One, and that has pretty low bandwidth, which will limit the console's capabilities.

He also claims, and take this with a grain of salt despite Zlatan's apparent 'credentials', that Nintendo's lowest allowed resolution for games will be 504p, and that many games will "upscale" from that resolution.

We'll just have to wait and see.
