We still don't know, and probably won't know for sure for a few more months.

Zlatan, an user from Anandtech and apparently "in the know", claims the Switch is "3 times slower" than the Xbox One, and that has pretty low bandwidth, which will limit the console's capabilities.

He also claims, and take this with a grain of salt despite Zlatan's apparent 'credentials', that Nintendo's lowest allowed resolution for games will be 504p, and that many games will "upscale" from that resolution.

We'll just have to wait and see.

I would be OK with that for a portable console.

Huh...

I'm actually underwhelmed by this. It's more like WiiU than some might care to notice. Most people will not be carrying this outside the house. That makes the 3DS still relevant, which I appreciate as I love 3DS.

Anyway, it will come down to the games as always. I'm sure Nintendo will create some amazing games for Switch, so I'll probably buy one eventually. But I'm not excited by the system itself.

That is not a handheld. It's best described as a portable, perhaps. You can easily carry it from room to room, but this is not a small device that you casually bring along. Heck, even the 3DS XL and Vita are pushing the size envelope for a handheld. Switch is beyond that envelope completely.
Then what is a handheld console? A console that is portable along with being able to be held and played simultaneously without being connected to a television, no?

Defining it merely by its size is a bit narrow minded.

Don't expect something on par with PS4 though it'll certainly be closer to PS4 than say the Wii U.

I'd say it is closer to Wii U than PS4, but maybe I'm wrong.

Nintendo doing the same mistakes they did with Wii U because they are too prideful to accept defeat, trying to milk that tablet concept and prove it can work.

I gotta say, it seems like Nintendo knocked this out of the park. It's a great looking system, an amazing concept, and somehow they actually picked a nice name for one of their products. Can't wait to pick this up.

Might have been mentioned already but would be really interesting if this thing ran Android and functioned as any other tablet/Android TV device would with the Nintendo stuff layered on top. I reckon something like that might make a really compelling offering for some people.

I agree completely.

Battery life is still something that concerns me, though. It will be interesting to see how Nintendo handles such a high-powered portable console.

Yea, it is a bit of a concern, but I wouldn't base any assumptions on what the Wii U and 3DS battery lives were. Upgrades to the larger capacity battery, the Wii U lasts for a pretty long time (like, 8 hours or something), and the 3DS Xl, again with a higher capacity battery does just fine.

The only thing to worry about would be whether they include a high capacity battery in it from the start.

NS is a horrible abbreviation for the system. Let's use NSW or NX.

Not as bad as people abbreviating Gamecube as GCN.

"Gamecube Nintendo"?

It doesn't make ANY sense, it would be NGC if anything

I found it kind of interesting how a good chunk of the video was dedicated to esports ( not to mention closing with it).

That leads me to believe we'll be seeing some more esports-friendly competitive titles a la Splatoon for the Switch.

The fucking scenarios are hilarious. Like any group of friends that are getting together to play couch co-op are almost certainly using a TV. Maybe I could see the road trip thing happening , but no. I don't know anyone who are getting together with their friends to pass out tiny gimped remotes (Remember playing Mario Cart on Wii and how much the Wii-mote sucked ass) and play on a 6.2" screen out on a park bench or something.

Not saying the option is bad, but they seemed to really focus on it, when that's really not something that will be used extensively or is as anywhere near important as the titles and system details.

Totally anecdotal, but my buddies and I will totally use that feature! Not out in the park mind you, but definitely.

My only concerns from the trailer are (a) battery life [please don't be like the WiiU Game pad] and (b) how comfortable the joy-con will be. Outside of that, I'm sitting in 1st class for this train!

I like the concept of a hybrid, but rather than detachable controls [that look awkward to me] I think I would have preferred a 'streamlined' tablet built with controls, and then a separate controller altogether for when playing as a console.

I get that this is smoother, in a way, but I value ergonomics in terms of grip. Not having them be detachable would have let them focus on form/comfort a bit more. I guess in part because I'm never going to be doing some of the stuff [like splitting the controllers in 2 so 2 people can play at the same time while in handheld form].

But I'm not the target audience so what do I know.

I'll be preordering the Switch as soon as they reveal the price. I'm one of the core Nintendo fans though, only owning a Wii U and New Nintendo 3DS, and so I'm assuming Nintendo are trying to aim for a much larger range of consumers than me. Hopefully they are successful as the more popular the system is, the better support it'll get and that's great for everyone.

Lol. If the Switch is lower than $250 I'll be shocked. I'm expecting $299 for a base model and $349 for a pro controller bundle.

There's absolutely no reason to create an entirely separate SKU simply to bundle the Pro Controller. Nintendo will just sell it for $50.

Hopefully Nintendo has learned from Wii U and offers a single SKU at launch. Make things simple for consumers.

My excitement has worn off and I'm now level headed.

And I realized all we know so far is that it's a tablet. The only way this will succeed is if they NEVER release a handheld during the SWITCH life cycle. If the home base had some hardware and advantages to playing while docked I would be more accepting.

We literally have a Nintendo tablet with secondary controls. I can't help but think this isn't going to be a runaway hit.

Hype deflated.

I want native HD on my tv. No upscaling.

Just read the rumors on the power of the Tegra chip that the Switch will be using, you're probably right in this regard.

I know it became a meme, but Nintendo is doomed.

They are too prideful as a company and thus wanted to create an improved concept for a tablet centered console (like the Wii U), couldn't apparently understand that the market for tablet is already lost and volatile.

Now you have a handheld console that will most likely have a poor battery life, be bulkier than their competitors, and can't compete with home consoles from competitors either in terms of power, so porting for it would mean releasing a significantly trimmed down version of the game graphically.

This makes no sense to me.
You can actually see in the trailer that most of situations depicted that would make you leave your gaming session at home but yet continue to play are far-fetched: you won't see friends calling for you at your window and be forced to take your game with you instead of spending time with them. You won't want to play in the park while you walk your dog.

This is so dumb to me.
I'm sorry, I'm so disappointed.
