Best First Party this Gen doesn't even seem like a close contest

Gaf overhype. I preferred the stop and pop in gears tenfold, though uncharted was admittedly cinematic as hell. Game was a great weekend rental, nothing more.

There, I said it.

Is anything productive ever achieved by these sorts of topics?
Usually you get a good gif or two, a good first reply, some meltdown by someone taking things way too seriously.

And when I clicked on this thread, I thought for sure it was going to be about nintendo because of the obvious sales victory of their 1st party software, and the typical nintendo meme of "only sells nintendo software and 3rd-party fails." But I guess I was the idiot for not expecting GAF to be GAF.

Nope, just because Sony doesn't own the company developing the franchise, doesn't mean its not first party. They own the IPs which is most important since the franchise developers won't even be able to develop/port those franchises to other consoles. Now if we were talking about actually development companies that Sony owns, then you are right.

Not to be a dick, but that's exactly what it means...

1st Party means that Sony itself is making the game.
2nd Party seems to mean that it's an indy studio making the game for Sony to publish.
3rd Party means that an indy studio makes the game for an indy developer, who pays the cash to release it on PS3.

Killzone 2 is a First Party game.
Ratchet and Clank is a Second Party game.
Fallout 3 is a Third Party game.

Traditionally 1st party games get full support from Sony, 2nd party games get some support and 3rd party games get a copy of the Japanese documentation.

Also, 1st party games usually get the most marketing support, but 300% of fuck all is still fuck all.

Now expand that to all exclusives on all consoles and you may have a point. Right now...not so much.

Because it pretty much looks like you're shitting on Sony games for no real reason.
Perhaps, but I feel that a game like Gears, Braid, Geometry Wars or Halo would be appropriately popular without console exclusivity, and a game like Fable doesn't garner the same sort of rapid hype.

It's all a case of "what if", of course, but yeah, it makes me raise an eyebrow.

It's not offensive, and I don't have anything against it, but its worth keeping in mind when reading certain posts from certain people.

I'm kinda waiting for this.
