Best First Party this Gen doesn't even seem like a close contest

As I see it, in terms of first-party, it's always been:

1) Nintendo
2) Sony
3) Microsoft

Though I can see why people would prefer Sony over Nintendo. I cannot see how anyone can put Microsoft over either of them, and I own an X360.

none of them even Touched how much the competition sold. Sony Sales age standards i think may have been lowered :(

How much do you think REsistance 1 and 2 sold compared to halo? MGS4? How much will KZ2 sell?

:(

MGS4 is a first party game now?

Mario Galaxy is worth 30 other games though.
No it isnt. At least until I play it. I have to convince myself that Mario Galaxy is terrible until I have the funds to buy a Wii. Until then, no dice.

OP forgot Motorstorm, which is sad because its sequel is the best racer this gen, bar none.

Well, maybe Burnout Paradise

how is Nintendo first on your list? Variety? Quantity?
Variety and Quality.

Barring atrocities like Mario Party 8 and Wii Play, and rehashes like Animal Crossing, of course.

Just look at the genres that their Wii games have covered:

Wii Sports - Party/Sports
Wii Fit - Lifestyle
Wii Music - Music
WarioWare - Party
Zelda: Twilight Princess - Action/Adventure
Super Mario Galaxy - 3D Platformer
Wario Land: Shake It! - 2D Platformer
Super Paper Mario - Platformer/Adventure/RPG
Metroid Prime 3 - First-Person Adventure
Super Smash Brothers Brawl - Fighter/Brawler

And I'm skipping titles as well, especially when taking the DS into consideration.

I'm not in this for list wars, and yeah, I am a Nintendo fan. But, it just goes to show that Nintendo is a company that knows how to cover the bases, and cover them well, which is why they should at least be considered as the best first party during this generation.

So barring everything they've made in the last 2 years, they're the best?

You misspelled "Excite Truck"

Excitebots would also be acceptable

KZ2 should have decent legs, LBP started poorly and sold a few mil worldwide didnt they? Resistance compared to Halo? Why would you compare a huge game like Halo to Resistance? They cost 1/5th what Halo cost to make (guess).

MGS4 sold more than MGS3.

DMeisterJ said:
Ratchet, Resistance, and LBP are second party right? Sony doesn't own Media Molecule or Insomniac, AFAIK.

With that said, you're opinion is wrong.

Nope, just because Sony doesn't own the company developing the franchise, doesn't mean its not first party. They own the IPs which is most important since the franchise developers won't even be able to develop/port those franchises to other consoles. Now if we were talking about actually development companies that Sony owns, then you are right.

I want to add that I love some of these PSN games that are out.

Q-Games and ThatGameCompany were some of my top choices for up and coming developers in another thread because the nature of the design of games like Flower were just amazing. Intuitive design and simple yet elegent entertainment that is nothing I played in this or the previous generation. A very unique experience.

Add to that Wipeout HD, Warhawk which are tops in their category and I haven't been dissapointed yet by one of their highly emphasized PSN releases. Quantity may be an issue, but quality is certainly among the best.

I just don't see anything in the exclusive lineups of the other consoles that can touch the breadth of the PS3s.

PLEASE just stop. Stop.

ok. now stop.

stop

Go back to GFAQS please, we don't need this shit here.

The first statement is true. The second is not. This thread is providing me with some nice chuckles so far. I just hope it stays open long enough for someone to say or do something exceptionally stupid.

best fried chicken joint in my town doesn't even seem like a close contest. joe bob's cluckin' chicken has so many great menu items: tnt buffalo chicken, teeth-shatterin' crispy chicken, gramma's famous dreamy creamy cole slaw, don't-stop-til-you-get-a-corn muffins. . .

there's really just no comparison here

and with his upcoming two buckets of fried chicken livers for the price of one deal, i only see the gap widening
I wouldn't be so sure...popeyes has some pretty good deals as well, and as the fried chicken market has shown the gaps can disappear in an instant.

Nintendo and Microsoft have both published more games for their home consoles that have appealed to me this generation than Sony has. I'm more pleased with what Sony's done for the PSP, but for the PS3, they really have not been doing much of anything for -- and this seems to be persisting. Pretty unfortunate.

I'd have to rank Nintendo first, I think. I may dislike the direction they're taking both the DS and the Wii, and I think they're handling their leadership role incredibly poorly, but I can't deny that they've published some really fantastic games for me in the past few years. Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Twilight Princess, and Radiant Dawn are, as far as appealing to my tastes, a much more compelling lineup than what Sony's done, Metacritic-be-damned.

The more Sony tries to gear itself towards the people that lapped up the Xbox last gen, the less they're going to appeal to me.

So I was just thinking over the exclusive titles for each console this generation and it just seems like an absolute runaway victory for Sony. Especially if you restrict yourselves to First Party Devs.

For fuck's sake. Name me one person who restricts themselves to first party developers. That's fucking retarded.

Wow. I did not want to :lol that hard but I did.

Anyway, I find it hard to turn a blind eye to the DS/PSP when comparing first party output. When the outputs are taken at their entirety, it's Nintendo then everyone else for me.

Both Sony and Nintendo have great first parties, which is your favorite depends on what the games you like.

For me Sony wins but if its Nintendo for someone I'm not surprised.

This basically boils down to Super Mario Galaxy vs. God of War III since every other first party game this gen sucks.

Super Mario Galaxy wins by default since God of War III isn't released yet.

I'll make sure to bump this thread on GoW III's release date so we can have a proper debate.

How did I know that this thread would be about Sony before I even clicked on it?

There's no need for this sort of thing, guys. What exactly does this even accomplish other than fanboy e-peen measurements against subjective opinions?

This argument is unwinnable as any result based on fun and appeal would render it arbitrary for anyone other than the person who posted the list. Watch! With the power of my opinions, I can make your entire list nigh-on irrelevant:

Ratchet and Clank
Uncharted
Final Fantasy VII Remake
Resistance
Trico
Killzone 2
Lair
Little Big Planet
Home
WarHawk
Wipeout

The stricken items on the list all exist (in potentia or otherwise) in genres that flat-out don't appeal to me. Meanwhile, on the Nintendo side of things:

Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime 3
Super Paper Mario
Super Smash Bros Brawl
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Disaster: Day of Crisis
Mario Kart Wii
Punch Out!
Kirby Wii
Kid Icarus Wii
Pikmin Wii
F-Zero Wii
Star Fox Wii

So even with the crossed out items, Nintendo still beats Sony. On the MS side of things:

Viva Piñata
Halo Wars
Halo 3
Uh.... other stuff that adds up to more than the Sony list

So you see, in conclusion, vis a vis, concordantly, I am right and you're wrong.

People who fail to recognize the curiously remarkable hotness of Wipeout HD can pretty much fuck off or some shit.

Exercise, cooking, math, and jumping around is a Nintendo first party and they are done by billions of people and are fun so Nintendo wins hands down. /thread
