Bloodborne gameplay : The first 18 minutes

I like the furnace in the Hunter's dream and blood this time is the currency, sounds perfect.

Things I am putting my thoughts on:

I wonder how our character stat progress works.
I suppose there are a few more things to explore on the hunter's dream maybe some more interactive npcs that might join in with your journey.
The Wheelchair npc said this was his home for now... What can he mean by that. Will the dream change if you "evolve"?
How the werewolf transformation works ( conditions, playability).

That's a bit annoying really. I'd like to have some lore and world info, to get into it before release, but it'd be bad if they reveal too many enemies and locations.

Eh, I doubt it. Seems that they're stretching things a bit already with cutting out the character creator
,since we all know that takes easily 30 minutes to get through,
as a separate content piece. Separate class runs, magic, making of...there's quite a bit they can get into without dipping much into the stuff best meant for discovery.

Yea, hopefully you are right.

I will not watch this...

Bye

A bit off topic, but does anyone know what version of Bloodborne I need to preorder if I want this steelbook?

The preorder stuff for this game is really vague - there doesn't seem to be a version that includes it.

Looks like a Souls game, main character definitely more agile which is appealing given how clunky Dark Souls titles were. Nice setting but its not exactly amazing me, at least not enough to invest in a PS4 to play it.

Not really a big enough Souls fan to get excited about it I suppose.

Is it just me or does it not look as good as before?
Maybe you think so because it's not night time now? It has improved stability wise but it is still an early build which was stated at the beginning of the video. The blood soaked werewolf did look pretty good to me and so did the Dream refuge.

Also with the newly returning ragdoll physics i don't expect clipping to go away that easily, it's exactly what people wished back for and the goofiness will come with it.

There's no armor as in heavy ass steel armor. All armor are now cloth based and we've already seen 4 types of armor sets so far.

its not armor at all. just clothing

We've seen ..

This exuberant set here with the winged feathers and flowing look

This set here with the mid trench coat with the flaming hat piece

Such like that. Its just clothing styles. Maybe some clothes have a magic-esque effect on the Hunter? who knows

Downgrade City...yikes. I was thinking of getting this game but if FROM doesn't care enough why should I??

If you play from games for graphic achievements then you're even more clueless then you come off.

Goes for most concerned posters in this thread btw. Buy then again i wouldn't be suprised if most concerned posters are trying to deal with not getting to play this anytime soon. Which step is denial again?

Your theory regarding bloodtinge is the best one I've heard so far, but if you're right the stat seems pretty useless. Seems like it would always be preferable to have more health in the first place than to increase the amount of health you could potentially regain via counter hits.

Well, since the HP will (most likely) hit a hard/soft cap and since every HP item is linked to an animation, I would see where a stat like that could be really useful.

No one has proven any downgrade, besides people keep saying it. The only reason I see this happening, if not trolling, is because they were expecting something more exciting based on the last trailers.

People may have been expecting to see the more noturne setting, the character wearing a nice robe, and more exciting battles. However, the content of the video is very very early game, and this time not for some exposition demo, but for the actual game.

Those diferences may contribute to the visual appeal overall. Other than that, I have noticed no downgrade at all (and no one has shown it either).

The darker night setting may still be present though, but later in the game.

Dream Refuge = Nexus? Seems like a mix between the Demon's Souls and Dark Souls approach. The main game world seems to be seamlessly connected, but the safe zone is a separate area with teleport checkpoints unlocked in the main world.

Of course this is different from the trailers because none of THIS stuff was shown in them. If people wanna make comparisons to the stuff in the trailers they gotta wait for the game to release and look at those later areas. Now people will use 16 by 16 pixel pictures to call out downgrades and being serious at that, so there is no use telling those people. Also most of the people arguing for its art style and atmosphere will not show up in this thread because spoilers.

Ugh sorry got lost in all the other junk. I'll read through your thoughts and edit them in

It gets frustrating don't it? Sometimes can't help myself and I add to the problem. Really if the comments were just ignored they would go away and become background noise. But they get quotes 10 times on a page so it just adds fuel.

Thanks for replying!
Yeah, I'm done adding to the fuel. This ignore function is actually pretty helpful. I think I'll try a 3-strike system...

The main reason I didn't go with that train of thought is due to how he unlocks the Central Yharnam region and then is able to kick back to it from the Dream Refuge the same way you do in Demons when you unlock a new zone. Able to choose from 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 in the same fashion from the Nexus. And unlike Dark 2, its not like Fast Travel where you can jump around while in the zones, but have to do it from the Nexus alone.

You're right, it doesn't appear to be like the Fast Travel system at first glance.
But we haven't seen what happens when you progress further and light more than one Lamp in a single area, or several across multiple areas. There may be Lamps or other more major spawn devices that you can warp between without returning to the Dream Refuge.

Either way, I wouldn't mind. I'm sure they have their reasons. I just hope the majority of the world will be interwoven nicely and traversible on foot.

I thought about the Chalice Dungeon too. One of them could be meant for the Chalice Dungeon. But if I recall right wasn't the Chalice Dungeon accessible once you get a certain item or something? I'll have to go read about the chalice dungeons again, but I recall reading something about an item you collect that gives you runs within the dungeon .. or allows you to switch it up ... or something like that. Forget the exact wording.

There are multiple tombstones, and I have it on good authority that at least one of them will be for Chalice Dungeon, but still, most could just be decoration.
I think either way, you won't be able to access them from the start and will need to find an item in the overworld first.

From the looks of it the player didn't have much of a chance. Completely unarmed going up against that bloodhound. I didn't see any chance to get around it. Sort of like if you beat Vanguard in Demons Souls in the journey to the nexus you meet the Dragon God which you have no chance again really. Its all just a clever way to get you to the Nexus, but hidden inside a tutorial or opening.

I imagine there will be a way around that initial beast if you run through fast enough or dodge around the operating tables.
I agree that it could be a Vanguard/Dragon God situation. Who knows what's in store even if you were able to get past or beat him with your bare hands?

That sort of thing mixed with the opening sequence has my mind going in a ton of different directions as far as the potential for what you are and what you may become in the game.

I think we're going to be in for some nice (read: nasty) surprises ;)

And just for the record, I guess there will be some "armour", in the sense that equipment isn't *entirely* cloth and leather. How much it affects your "weight" equivalent in the game remains to be seen, though.

I can't get over how good the sound design is. Entering a new area, opening a door, picking up an item, using a blood vial, firing the blunderbuss, parrying, etc all have such vicious sound effects. Even the sound when an enemy staggers before a parry hits so damn hard. The sounds for attacking an enemy and the noise as their corpse slumps to the ground also have a tremendous sense of weight. It's so fucking raw and in your face.

I think this looks worse than the alpha tbh.
But then I played that on a really nice KDL48W600 TV and this is watched on an old screen at work and it being compressed as fuck doesn't help.

Will download at home and watch again.

The environments in how they're rendered remind me of Devil May Cry 4, also how rigid the character looks within them. Seems very static and narrow.

So I finally gave in and watched it.

The good:

1. Atmosphere
2. Soundtrack (that boss battle theme was fearsome)
3. Looks like a lovechild of Diablo, System Shock 2 and Vampire Hunter D.
4. Combat

The bad:

1. Camera movement in constricted environment.
2. Edge flickering is distracting. Aliasing for me is fine but during night, the flickering it has given rise to is truly in need of appreciable improvement.

I'm certain that if you take your sweet time and you are skilled enough you might be able to kill it bare handed, but what happens next is opening the same door the IGN player did and going out to the city where you'll surely die there soon.
The hound is just placed there so it can kill you and so you can take your first trip to the hub and pick up your starting equipment.

FWIW.

The level of detail is incredible, so many intricate details with layers and layers. The world looks bustling and alive which prior games have lacked. In particular I really like the bit where you could hear the dogs barking, and constant groans of monsters around you.

The time setting is pretty cool, although I thought it looked graphically better in the alpha night time setting. But given the dark nature of the game the new time setting is welcome to liven it up a bit.

Hoping there is a day/night cycle so can experience both.

All my hopes for the game have been confirmed, this will be brilliant. Now I better start demon souls, not played it before but just purchased a PS3 especially to go back and give it a go!!

Looks good but I really hope there's some sword and board style tank gameplay in this and not just focus on dodging each and every attack.
Sure, the staggering mechanic of the guns are supposed to replace that but I don't know. My first thought was that I'd rather play the game like I did the Souls games.
