Bloodborne |OT+5| Grant Us Eyes!

You only get 1800 blood echoes for Gascoigne? I'm just running through on a new playthrough and I thought the game hadn't credited them, I had to look it up. That's stingy!

Question: When does NG+ get harder? I thought when I start my NG+ run everything is harder but so far(I just killed Vicar Amelia) its a piece of cake.
And I even get way more exp, but level ups get equally more expensive, so now I level even faster.

Did you fight the secret boss in the DLC?
Laurence.

Yep. I played the DLC without a progression guide or anything but after I finished the Orphan of Kos I looked up a list of all bosses and saw that I missed that one. But I already had the item I needed.

I was kinda proud after beating the orphan of kos because I think I played pretty well, so I looked up some videos of other people beating him on youtube and found a bunch of videos where people beat him without armor, with just bare fists and without using blood vials on NG+7.
ffs people...

Holy shit!!!

Upper cathedral is so freaky.
The werewolf jumping out of the window almost gave me a heart attack. There's even babies crying

I just reached ebrietas and she/he ate me and I lost all my health. Is that a one hit kill move?

Yes that's true.

You kill Amelia yet? If so then you need to head to the password door.

No I haven't. I went left there.

What is to the right if you're facing that door?
Where you come down to two houses and some hard dudes, opposite side which leads to witch
.

I think I screwed up bad. I've been plowing to the game every night and I just accidentally beat it. Halfway through the fight I thought "this seems like it would be a final battle". It was and I did it on my first try, it was pretty easy to Parry.

My question is this, how fucked am I considering that I did not do the DLC? I would've thought there was some special area that would open up DLC, I should've known having played through dark souls 1 & 2 that of course it was going to be some silly item. I went through the game blind with no guides. I'm level 93. I've heard Old Hunters is waaaaaay hard on NG+

Thanks. Is the clinic before the spider btw?

Yeah. If you find it then just leave after opening up the entrance.

Pretty fucked if you go for the DLC ASAP in NG+. If you wait until you reach the final boss again then you shouldn;t have too many problems.

Which final boss did you fight? If it was

From the start. Everything hits harder and takes more damage, but at the start of NG you had base stats with +0 weapon and now you have leveled up and have a +10 weapon.

So, I've beaten
Shadow of Yharnam
(was the hardest boss I've beaten so far, about 15 attempts). Next up was
Byrgenwerth
. I've started the
Rom
fight, but died to its jumping/rolling attack. The boss seems to have a lot of health, I'm not really sure if I'm supposed to be at this point in the game yet (level 55, most weapons at +6)

So far I've
defeated Cleric Beast, Father Gascoigne, Blood-Starved Beast, Vicar Amelia, Witch of Hemwick, Darkbeast Paarl and Shadow of Yharnam. I've gotten as far as the Rom fight in Byrgenwerth and the Amygdala fight in Nightmare Frontier. I've also gotten to Cainhurst Castle. I also have a Pthumeru Chalice in my inventory for (I assume) using at one of the gravestones in Hunter's Dream. I've also explored Yhar'gul and linked it back to Old Yharnam and also the Forbidden Woods and linked it back to Iosefka's Clinic (where I ended up killing Iosefka, was I supposed to do that?)
.

What's the next step? The
Amygdala
fight is really hard, as is the
Rom
one. Am I missing something?

Rom
is what you'll need to beat to advance. Did you find the Tonitrus in

? That works really well against him

Ah, thanks! I did find it, just need to level it up I suppose. Should I try to beat the others
(Cainhurst Castle, Amygdala in Nightmare Frontier, Pthumeru Chalice Dungeon)
before
Rom
, or does it matter?

I found both those bosses tough on my first playthrough.
Rom the Vacuous
was so frustrating!

For Amygdala I just stick to its legs and when it jumps up you stand still and it will do no damage when it lands and for Rom I focus on the spiders first (kill them from behind it's quicker). Either totally clear them out or thin them out and then run up to Rom, stand on either side of its body, and just keep hitting until it totally disappears (still takes damage while teleporting. don't try hitting the head). Keep repeating that but after the first stage it will start attacking. When Rom's body stands up then start running in a wide circle and when it rolls over just put a bit of distance between yourself and it.

There are probably more efficient ways to defeat them but I am not usually the kind to switch weapons/gear. I stick with what I have and figure out how to deal with them that way.

You should be able to take on Rom, and that is the next 'main' boss. If you're having trouble, you could try levelling up a bit (if you spawn at the Witches of Hemwick lantern, make your way back to the first lantern of that area, so left through the big gate and to that area with the female villager enemies, and you'll get around 16,000 echoes per run).

Rom is probably the easiest route you can take now as well. Amygdala, and the Cainhurst Castle location, are quite a bit harder.

The chalices are entirely optional, and while there are some unique bosses in them, you only need to do them if you want the platinum trophy.

Now, I can't really explain this without spoilers, but I'll try to be as vague as possible. In regards to Iosefka, you
shouldn't have killed her,
as she provides you with a super important key item if you visit her after Rom is defeated.

However, you can still
get another copy of this item from sending Arianna (she's in one of the houses near the Cathedral Ward) to the Cathedral. You'll get the item off her if you find her after you beat one of the later bosses in the game
You should do this before you beat Rom.

So, your progress route should be:
Go to Cathedral Ward and
send Arianna there. If you go to the big plaza with the two giants, there should be a set of stairs to the side with some of those enemies in white with the big hats. She's in a house if you follow that path.
Return to the hub, and load back into the Cathedral to get her to spawn in there.

Or...

If
Arianna
is already at the Cathedral (she will be sat near the lantern, and is wearing red), then you're fine.

Then beat Rom.

On this note. Do not use

and also sent her to the cathedral

I fought
Gherman
. I sort of thought it would have been more epic and the ending was just 'meh'. I didn't realize it was over and dumping me right into
Iosefka clinic
.

I guess this time I should do a guide walkthrough to see all the story parts and this gives me a chance to try new weapons. I used
Ludwig's Blade
the entire way through.

Just out of curiosity how are are my stats?

35 Vit
30 End
36 Str
25 Skl
9 Blood
8 Arc

EDIT: Is there a good walkthrough that includes all the potential 'secret' stuff I missed? For instance on NG+ I just
found the little girl asking about her father and mother, she gave me the Music Box and told me about the Red Brooch. My jaw dropped when she said Red Brooch...I didn't find her in my first playthrough

The music box is also a nice little secret. If you read the description you'll know when to use it :)
Also listen to the music box one last time, before you face the final
nightmare
boss if you go through the game again ;)

Also: 3 thirds umbilical cord.

woah I was looking for this game's OT and I am happy to see it's alive, I am absolutely new to this game and have never played a souls game... I expect lots of frustration.

played once for 15 minutes, the first werewolf kicked my ass then I went to sleep.

I think I'll be coming here very often... wish me luck,I'll need it,

I am a slow 39 year old unskilled gamer

so, any tips you can give to someone just starting?? like, what origin should I start with? the default one or is there a class that makes the initial experience more enjoyable to people who don't know how to play?

also, what weapons should I get from the messengers the first time they offer you items?

Just beat
Living Failures
and
Maria
back to back. Jesus there was so much frustration

they were a joke but
Maria
kinda caught me off guard. the trick is to always dodge to the left. makes the whole fight way easier.

have fun in the next area :) lol.

I used these starting guides myself, and it worked very well for me.

A Guide to Choosing Your Starting Class and Weapons in Bloodborne:
http://www.craveonline.com/site/837...your-starting-class-and-weapons-in-bloodborne
This Suggested Starting Build for Bloodborne is Remarkably Effective:
http://www.craveonline.com/site/837...build-bloodborne-origin-class-skill-effective

It's also advisable to use spare Blood Echoes to buy Blood Vials, so you won't run out of them. In the beginning, levelling up your weapon, and finding/buying an outfit with better defense stats, is more useful than levelling up your character. You can find a plenty of Blood Stone Shards for weapon upgrades, and Coldblood Dews to exchange to Blood Echoes in the first area.

i was the same! never got past the wolves then went back to it about a year later after having played Dark Souls and it all made sense.

i don't think it matters so much what class you go with really unless you have a specific build in mind. I usually go with Milquetoast or Lone Survivor. I think Vit/End/Str/Skill are most important stats. I never bother with Discovery/Arcane stats. Bloodtinge I usually left until well into the game. The main focus is to get health/endurance and strength/skill for damage.

i went for the axe first time and then saw cleaver in 2nd playthrough. i found that saw cleaver is better but either one will do just fine. you can easily complete the entire game + DLC with starting weapons as long as you upgrade them. the threaded cane isn't bad but i'd maybe leave that until 2nd/3rd playthrough.

the game is gonna be frustrating and might even seem ridiculously unfair if you've never played it or dark souls before because there is a learning curve.

1. don't run into groups of enemies. deal with them individually. pebbles are your friend.
2. if you are exploring an area for the first time then go slowly. you never know what is waiting around the corner, hanging above you, or sneaking up behind you. if you go running into an unknown area you're gonna have a bad time.
3. again don't be afraid to run past enemies if you're really having trouble. for example the wolves on the bridge.
4. the story is told through very few cutscenes. you are expected to piece it all together from what NPC's tell you and from reading item descriptions.
5. explore! the game doesn't hold your hand and NPC's will hint at where you should head. a lot of area are easy to miss and optional. if you hit a dead end then you need an item.
6. when you start feeling like you have got a hang of the game don't get too cocky. that's when you die. many times i've thought i could handle it but if you make a mistake you'll die.
7. don't give up :) i'm so glad i went back to it. i went from hating the game to it becoming one of my all time favourites.

if you have any questions while playing (you will!) then come in here and we'll help you out :)

woah, best community ever.

I've tried going LTTP into official threads and I've never received this sort of responses and so quickly.

really appreciated, will come back as soon as I encounter my first WTF moment.

with the wolf I wasn't really trying, I just spammed attack with no strategy... of course that didn't go well haha.

Do you mean the first wolf in the clinic? It's a bit of a Souls tradition to face a tough enemy first thing that will very likely kill you.

It is possible to kill it bare fisted before you even get a weapon - holding R2 charges your attack, a full charged attack (it makes a flash and sound) behind an enemy will stagger them, then follow that up whilst they are staggered with an R1 behind them to perform a visceral attack. This will one-shot a lot of enemies, including that wolf. There's no bonus for killing it before you get a weapon though - if you watch the attack closely you can see it's performed with your hand, not your weapon which is why it doesn't rely on your weapon to perform.

You can also perform a similar visceral attack in front of enemies by staggering them with your gun, the timings vary between enemies but a rule of thumb is to stagger them mid-attack (in Souls it was usually a last minute thing, in BB the parry window tends to be earlier). Again, walk up to them when staggered and R1 will perform the visceral attack for big damage. This takes a bit of practice to do consistently, so don't let it put you off early.

To echo blly155, I would recommend the Saw Cleaver - the weapon is really the most well-rounded in the game. fast but powerful.

If you go with the skill build the links suggested, the Threaded Cane may feel somewhat underpowered in the beginning, but its speed and the whip mode's reach help a lot. When you level up the weapon and skill points it really starts to shine, and skill points also increase the visceral damage.

That brings me to parrying, it's highly recommedable to learn the mechanic, as it makes many enemies and bosses easier to beat. The big guys carrying a rock in the first area are good practising partners for it. Use the gun to stun them, just when they're about to strike, then move closer and use R1 to do the visceral strike. You must have the weapon in its default form to be able to do the visceral strike.

Iosefka's
Clinic right?
It's the area you first started the game in. There is a path in the Forbidden Woods that leads back to Central Yharnam that eventually takes you back in there beyond where they let you go if you were to just walk back to the room you started in. That's pretty much what you want to avoid until fighting

The Lyrics to Hail the Nightmare are pretty interesting...

(Maledictus!)
Donum libas,
(Inficimur!)
Valedictus bestia.

(Maledictus!)
Pace do si donas.
(Inficimur!)
Argentum aqua in tenebris.

Ave, sanguine!
Redemptio risor se,
Exi, et exi, et pleba tua salus.

Vale, vale,
(Inficimur!)
In tenebris aqua.

(Maledictus!)
Et argentum aqua.
(Inficimur!)
Et argentum aqua.

Sanguine!
Sanguine!

(Slandered)
Gift us a sip,
(Poisoned/Cursed!)
Having bidden farewell from the beast.

(I speak of evil)
If you surrender, I give you peace.
Silver water in the darkness.

Hail, with blood!
Redeem the mocker from himself,
You depart, and your pleb departs safety.

Farewell, Farewell,
(Poisoned!)
In the water darkness.

(Slandered)
If you surrender, I give you peace.
(Poisoned)
Silver water in the darkness

Hail, with blood
Redeem the mocker from himself
You depart, and your pleb departs safety.

Farewell, Farewell,
(Poisoned!)
In the water darkness.

(Slandered)
and silver water
Poisoned!
and silver water

From Blood!
From Blood!

You can still visceral with a 2 handed weapon, but it would need to be a backstab as you can't parry 2-handed.

The axe can't IIRC, since its charged R2 pushes the enemy back.

I just started a BL4 run, its pretty fun! Until Shadows of Yharnam which makes me want to quit.
