Went to the field where me and my boyfriend used to go, sat down and started talking to myself (but I was talking as if I was talking to him). I just talked about whatever was on my mind as well as what I want to do with myself in terms of how I want to live.

I know that it sounds odd and I won't be surprised if some of you might think I'm odd, crazy and/or weird. But it's helped me cope with his death (he died 2 years ago. We were together for a few years before that, and have been incredibly close friends since 2000) and it's helped me realise things about myself.

It just feels more like a weight off my shoulders if I do that as opposed to keeping it inside. He was the only person that I felt comfortable talking about myself to and he knew how to help me through hard times (he even saved my life on two occasions). It's hard to explain properly.

I'm in a much better mindset now. After following the advice I gave myself during those talks I was able to move on and improve myself. Still need a little work but if you met me in 2012, you'd see the difference easily.

Whatever works, man. That sounds like a pretty healthy way to deal with and externalise stuff. Way cheaper than standard therapy too.

I had an absolutely dreadful day today. It felt like my mind was in about 1,000 different places at once.

But I just platinumed Resogun. I feel like the Empress of all Boom!
Shiiiiit, impressive stuff. A virtual pint for you.

I really haven't given that game the time it deserves. Got distracted by AC4.

Well good news this morning. It seems my Secret Santa has finally arrived! But I will have to wait till I get home to open it. Though judging by the packaging I can see why it took a while.

But the lack of responses was the main reason I was getting worried. That and I have a nagging mother.

So I finished Act I of Broken Age.

Shorter than I was hoping & it was very easy but so much charm, pretty funny, it's gorgeous and I love the voice acting.

I can't wait to get stuck into the second part when it comes out. Well played, Tim.

I was about to congratulate you on actually finishing a game but then I realised that episodic doesn't count. So there.

I completed all the content that was available to me.
I'm counting it, motherfucker.

Next up I've got to make some headway with Assassin's Creed IV. How long is it supposed to be?

Knowing AC games, probably about 10-15 hours too long. BA DUM TISH

I can't believe you never finished TLoU and you're going to play an AC game. For shame.

Thanks. It was a nice one, not grindy and lots of fun.

AC4 is mega. That's next on my platinum list but it looks like you need to grind hours on multiplayer.

Edit - that's the thing I really hate in trophies. Good trophy design makes you play the game a different way, find funny quirks and just adds to the experience. Bad design is just pointless time-served box ticking. Ugh. like on Killzone Vita where you have to spend about 30 hrs after completion just grinding 10,000 kills. But I can't just leave the progress bar on 98%! IT'S NOT FINISHED!!!

Last game I completed was The Last of Us :( Since then every game I've tried to complete I either get bored or distracted with some socialising event halfway through and never go back. Still haven't beaten GTA 5. Started Spec Ops back in xmas and still haven't completed it. I now plan on restarting them...at some point...when I'm free..FML. I wanna be a basement nerd again.

Yeah man stop going out and living an exciting life. wtf.

Spec Ops is super short, you can crank that out in a day (a very stressful and intense day where you will scream and yell at the telly a lot). I loved that game though, fantastic stuff.

GTA is my GotG, the second half especially is brilliant, the missions get properly insane at some points. I think I must have spent at least 200 hours on that game between SP and MP. Ouch.

I need to get out more.

Maybe I should clear up TLOU and GTA V first...

I'm kind of hesitant with both, though, because I'm pretty sure they'll both be coming to PS4 where I can enjoy them on a system which I'm still trying to justify the cost of to myself.

I'm basically at the end of GTA, so I might just finish that off, but I don't think I'm even half way through TLOU

I can't help it man, it's my jam. I really don't have any contenders that come close and I've probably played 200 or so games last gen. Best visuals of the gen. Great characters that you can inhabit, empathise with and enjoy playing. Great driving. Best police chases ever. Decent shooting. The shit I've done in that game.... it's beautiful. What would you choose instead?

Game of the Gen, everyone. GO!

I have two serious contenders and one non-serious. The non-serious is Metroid Prime Trilogy because it's technically the best game ever put on a disc, but I can't really count it because it's a collection. REALLY THOUGH:

Bioshock and Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Gettin' absolutely sick of it man. UFC on saturday night. Superbowl on Sunday night. Anamanaguchi gig on Monday night. Less Than Jake/Reel Big Fish on Wednesday night. When will it end?! Fuckin' friends. I just want to stay at home and jack off with a bag of chilli heatwave doritos on my left and a copy of Catherine for the 360 on my right.

I would say that Metroid is Gamecube gen, so that can't count. I would actually like to replay that myself, I never finished it on the GC because the controller gave my fingers the painful clicks.

Bioshock - I loved when it came out but on retrospect it's a bit shallow and cludgey and everything feels like it's made out of greased plasticine. That said, it was an interesting early glimpse into what the gen would become, taking the hits of yesteryear and stripping out the complexity and nuance but adding a decent story and presentation.

I never played any Wii games at all, but Mazza usually rocks so I can't argue with that.

I've completed Normal/Hard/Survivor and then started New Game Plus on Survivor, there have been very few games I've completed more than once so I guess that's some sort of recommendation. Other than that, I think Dead Rising (the first one) was my favourite game of this gen.

Oh yeah definitely. And if not even the technical best, then certainly one of the most important still. This was the reason I got a 360, it was truly next gen at the time. And it's stupid fun.

*googles* oooh a bullet hell shooter? interestink, love those games. Might have to nab on PSN.

It's def niche of a niche and you need to give it a good few hours and playthroughs to get all the details but I love it. It's got a twisty and confusing plot which is a bit Rashomon and discusses genocide and abuse. In Hungarian. The art design is beautiful too.

I do like it when games let you keep your upgrades when you start a new game. I remember going back and completing Uncharted 1 and 2 loads as I could get better weapons when I started again. Didn't enjoy 3 as much so didn't really bother.

Bioshock was the game that kickstarted a generation obsessed with crafting story driven experiences and still remains one of the only ones that managed to get subtext right. People can rip on Ken Levine as much as they want, but the dude does his research and applies it well. Most games will have a story without any kind of subtext and people will be happy with it, but I say fuck that noise. If you're going to make a story driven experience, write a good fucking story. Why should I pay for Tesco Basic chocolate when Ken Levine has shown that Guylian can be made? Ken Levine melted fucking white and milk together and filled it with some hazelnut paste. If it's not self aware of how dumb it is and coloured striking fucking purple like something along the lines of Metal Gear Rising, why should I care?

WHY THE FUCK SHOULD I TOLERATE TESCO BASIC CHOCOLATE WHEN I CAN HAVE GUYLIAN?

I'm torn between a few.

Dead Space - This just feels like such a solid, meaty game. I love the UI design, I love the animations and actions & how they reflect the atmosphere of the game. Stomping on breakable boxes to get health packs, stomping on writhing limbs, bashing necromorphs out of your way, the satisfying thump of the weapons, the strangled gasps for air, the dim glow of lights on the ship, the way Isaac manages to look absolutely fucking terrified as he steps into the station to upgrade his suit, how he flails when monster fucking tentacles rip his legs out from under him to drag him into the abyss. Everything about this game is atmospheric as fuck. I'd like to see Visceral Games make Alien: The Game.

It doesn't hurt that the level design in Dead Space is fantastic. I love that each area of the ship is a chapter. You start at the metro station, drag yourself into hell & then limp back when the job is done. The bosses are all loads of fun & it's awesome to replay the game with different weapon loadouts to see how you fare.

My only complaint about Dead Space is the regenerating enemy towards the end of the game. For me, that took a great formula that I'd been loving and flushed it a little bit.

As much as I love the sequels, I don't think anything is going to live up to the original Dead Space for me in a good long while.

GTA V - fantastic sandbox game that actually delivers on the promise of giving you a world that feels alive, lived in and is full of exciting shit to do around every corner. It's got limits - I'd really love to be able to walk into more houses, rob more different types of stores, see a bit more variation in the AI of people and the way you interact with them (am I the only one that finds SP GTA to be a really isolating experience?) but it's definitely the best of breed by a long shot. The single player story is also a lot of fun, genuinely interesting with some great performances & the multiplayer is JUST ABOUT amazing. I feel like it skates on the edge of being shit quite a lot, but manages to pull endless fun out of the bag anyway. I'd like to see more focus on getting a crew together, getting them a fleet of vehicles, a base of operations, some kind of turf wars with other gangs, a mix of single and multiplayer missions to get your gang up in the ranks etc in the next game, I think.

Dishonored - Another atmosphere-led decision, but I fucking love the world they've created here. It's just really fascinating to be a part of. The whale oil angle is interesting in a lot of ways - from the utility of it and the way if affects inventions to the fact they're slaughtering fucking whales left right and centre to fuel their society to all the great lore behind it. I eat that shit up. The gameplay is obviously a riot too. The powers are fun to play and experiment with, the weapons feel solid, moving about the levels (which, again, are really well designed and feel very expansive) is really enjoyable. There's a lot to love in Dishonored. I keep meaning to get back to it so I can play the DLC.

The Walking Dead - I doubt people are really going to agree with this one, but man. Dem feels. I don't think a game has gripped me the way TWD did. I played each chapter in one sitting over a couple of hours & I was totally fucking engrossed. I know a lot of it is smoke and mirrors, your decisions aren't really changing all that much in the story & how it plays out and, as such, I think a repeat playthrough would ruin the game for me, but when you're stumbling through it doesn't really matter. A little suspension of cynicism goes a long way. I literally cried man-tears at the end of chapter 5.

I mean, I'm a bit of a crier anyway, but seriously. This fuckin' game, man.

Aww Mike, Dead Space is so so good! It's just so well bolted together, a proper tank of a game. The controls are sublime too.

I thought The Walking Dead was big smelly pissed stained pants though. I'm on chapter 4 and struggling to finish it, I find it boring, awkward to play and really poorly put together.

Rainbow Six: Vegas. Terrorist Hunt mode specifically.
Test Drive Unlimited.
Trials HD.
Bioshock.
Fallout 3.
Call of Duty 4.
Gears of War (1).

Fuck knows, man. I could probably list another 20-50 easily and each of them would be games that I fucking loved. Last gen was probably the best I remember.

Ahem.

I cant wait for PS now so I can catch up. I skipped last gen so have not played any of these games!

Total agreement on Dead Space. I'm so disappointed that the sequels went back on the formula and watered down the experience because lol ea. You'd think they'd be smarter than this by now.

I don't even WANT Dead Space 4 at this point, but I really want more survival horror in space ripping off themes from works like Aliens, Event Horizon, The Forever War, etc.

Please somebody (NOT EA), give me polished space horror :(

I remember buying R6V for my friend's 360. We'd play it every lunch time and after college most days. Crack those settings onto the hardest mode with the most terrorists and go to town.

There was one level where they'd always come down a certain ladder to the right of the building. I used to love seeing how many bodies I could pile at the bottom of it. (that might actually have been on the sequel, but they were both fantastic)

That's not TMI for in here - And yeah, fuck bipolar - two of my exes suffered with it, so I've got an idea of how much it can fuck you up if you don't keep yourself in check.

Give me a holla if you need to do any venting - you'll already know this better than I, but it's important to keep communication open and to air your thoughts out regularly.

The DLC is much better than the main game. I say this as someone who loves the main game. If they take what they learned from the DLC into the development of a new game, it might well end GOD TIER.

I'm currently diving into the entire FXIII trilogy in anticipation of Lightning Returns (really loved the demo). Not as bad as people made out. I'm waiting for the combat options to open up. Corny dialogue is par for the course with anime, right?

LVU Campus and Calypso Casino were fantastic maps. Played 'em over and over. Hardest difficulty, 75 terrorists.

Did you ever notice you could totally game the AI by walking up to a door and then backing away? Any terrorists in the room would immediately rush to the door and open it, only to get filled full of lead. So good.
