I have a lot of time for AC's multiplayer.

The DLC is much better than the main game. I say this as someone who loves the main game. If they take what they learned from the DLC into the development of a new game, it might well end GOD TIER.

I'm currently diving into the entire FXIII trilogy in anticipation of Lightning Returns (really loved the demo). Not as bad as people made out. I'm waiting for the combat options to open up. Corny dialogue is par for the course with anime, right?

Lots of win in this post
AC multiplayer is fantastic (and the only reason I bought Brotherhood, Revelations and 3. Didn't touch the single player in any of them)
Can't wait to play the Dishonored DLC. Maybe I'll jump straight to it tonight.
Hmm, decisions.

No idea about FFXIII - I gave up on it pretty quickly. You'll have to ask one of our resident weeaboos for animu advice, though :p

LVU Campus and Calypso Casino were fantastic maps. Played 'em over and over. Hardest difficulty, 75 terrorists.

Did you ever notice you could totally game the AI by walking up to a door and then backing away? Any terrorists in the room would immediately rush to the door and open it, only to get filled full of lead. So good.

Gaming the AI was pretty much the fun of it, for me - and leading them on merry little chases around the maps to try and get as many into one room as possible for maximum bullet to death ratio.

Please somebody (NOT EA), give me polished space horror :(

Sega/Creative Assembly's Alien game sounds promising, but I think that's the only one announced so far. I liked Dead Space up to a point where I had a near impossible boss fight at the bottom of a barrel or something and I had to give up.

For the second, I had to stop at the nursery level. Stomping on babies was just too much. Haven't bothered with the third one.

Hey 8bit, I finally listened to Burial's Rival Dealer EP last night, splendid stuff. Somebody lit a fire under that boys arse, he broke 50bpm!

Your new avatar is legit too. ;)

Yeah, it's quite different from what I expected. It even feels Christmassy in bits.

I had to change my avatar, I was tired of looking at my own face. And January is nearly over now.

That's not TMI for in here - And yeah, fuck bipolar - two of my exes suffered with it, so I've got an idea of how much it can fuck you up if you don't keep yourself in check.

Give me a holla if you need to do any venting - you'll already know this better than I, but it's important to keep communication open and to air your thoughts out regularly.

You skipped last gen? Que la fuck? What have you been doing for the past decade?!

Thanks.

I'd been gaming since 8bit days (and hanging around arcades for years all through my teens!) but I just fell out abruptly after Metroid Prime until my partner bought me a 3DS. 3DS was alright but a bit too mushy for me so on a whim I bought a Vita a year and a bit ago and that was that!

That Alien game does look fun - I'm really hoping it'll live up to the promise.

There's an indie game that was giving me awesome space horror vibes, but I've totally forgotten the name. Should've bookmarked the thread...

I should probably play an AC game one day (AssCreed not Animal Crossing, that's one games I've been playing too much of). I did actaully order the Wii U version for the launch because UbiSoft mispriced the deluxe version for £30 which made it one of the cheapest games at the time, but alas they cancelled it. Well I say alas, it was a glitchy bug fest so maybe it was a bit of luck really.

Interesting GotG discussion folks, keep it up!

Loved me some Dead Space when it came out, completed it three times. Love those whole spaceship milieu, it reminded me a lot of System Shock and Doom3, very much in that tradition. I liked DS2 a lot as well since it upped the action ante whole still being pretty scary. And it was beautiful too. Haven't braved DS3 yet though, heard it was shit.

I played Dishonoured but didn't think too much of it ater completion, I felt that it was very similar to Bioshock in that it all felt a little too small and shallow. I liked all the ideas in the game, but I felt the execution was lacking. Also, worst ending of any game this gen. I killed a guy who I didn't realise was the final target, got 2 mins of cutscene and that was it. I literally said WTF.

Also think very highly of MGS4 - given that I only played it last year, I felt that it held up spectacularly well against gen-end games and I had a blast playing it from start to end. Totally don't get the hate this game gets.

As a Batman dude, the Arkham games were fantastic, especially for the copious nerdy fanservice (mofuckin Azrael up in this bitch?!). Edged out by Bayonetta as the best action game of the gen though. Bayo was fucking unreal.

Is FF13 any good then? It's sooooo cheap used, I'm tempted to pick it up but FF games are mostly miss for me, I think the only one I've really enjoyed would be 6. I way prefer turn based games on a handheld/tablet as well.

And speaking of poorly received games that are probably way cheap now, I've been interested in picking up Lost Planet 3 for the single reason that the main actor Bill Waterson is on a podcast I listen to (Smorning show, tuesday edition) and he's got a great voice and I want to support him.

I did exactly the same thing with Brotherhood! Didn't buy the others, though. I've spent more time in AC4's MP than I have on the SP.

I didn't realise we were doing GotG! I'll have to have a think...

RE: FFXIII - I'm two hours in, so it's a wee bit early to tell. It's quite linear still and the combat hasn't really opened up yet, but the characters are interesting, the setting is gorgeous, the lore has me intrigued (it's an attack on American foreign policy, I think) and the combat is much faster paced than the last FF I played (X, I think).

Like I say, the main reason I got it was to catch up before Lightning Returns hits. Definitely check the demo out for that, the combat is a weird mix of turn-based and real-time that is ever so satisfying. The costume change mechanic could've been handled better/changed entirely but it intrigued me enough to invest in the (very different) prequels.

I bought Arkham Asylum for £1 on OnLive. Is that service even running. Maybe I should dig out that console I have and try it tonight.

Hey all.

My brother came down from Scotland for the week, he's probably still asleep on my sofa at home. Went drinking last night with some friends of his who I hadn't seen in years and they were more friendly than I remember. Since I live around the corner from a bunch of them my social life might expand soon. The negative side of that is I'm at work with a hangover. Ouch.

Was talking to a guy who's a personal trainer in the Virgin Active gym in Staines which I was considering joining. He was essentially talking me out of it by saying he and his housemate are starting a business as personal trainers and that he could give me a favourable rate. I'm not sure what the best move is since his equipment is limited to some weights apparatus. I'd like to build strength but I'd like to factor in some running and would use cycling and rowing machines too. Need to have a think.

Aside from that I showed my brother Knack (which I'd played for a grand total of 10 minutes before) and I actually quite like it. It's certainly more challenging than I gave it credit for, which is the way it should be in a game like Knack. I also like the visual style, especially the environments. I'm less fond of the character design, Knack himself has the personality of a damp rag and I don't like his face or voice. But the game is fun, I'm quite impressed by the diversity in the enemies: already I've fought Goblins that throw boomerang blades, grenade throwers, standard melee attackers and kamikaze bugs. There's a lot of different types with different types of attacks that make you approach certain fights differently, and when there's a bunch of different enemy types together you really need to be quite careful. I would certainly reccomend playing it and judging it for yourself rather than being put off by the 4/10s etc.

I fell asleep during the opening of FF13.

The magicky stuff and the lore of Dishonoured was really neat, but the gameplay felt a little shallow in parts. Didn't gel with the DLC though, I might go back to that.

I loved the multiplayer of the first Lost Planet, I think that Titanfall will probably be quite close to that in execution.

What did you think of Arkham Origin?

It's a flawed take on City. I loved City so more of it was fine for me, at least as a stop gap between Rocksteady's entries.

I love the addition of proper countering ninja enemies. I wish there was a challenge room editor, I'd put twenty of them in one round.

I preferred Chris Redfield's Batman to Conroy's Arkham work, the latter sounded like he enjoyed the smell of his own farts a bit too much.

EDIT: Sorry, I know you didn't ask me.

Ah not played Origin yet, the team change and that screenshot of the MASSIVE car (or tiny Batman) put me right off it. And Deathstroke, never really been that into Deathstroke.

And tbh, I don't like how this is supposed to be an 'origin' or year one story and yet Bats seems as competent as ever and has even more armour on. I want a crappy Batman held together with sellotape and pritt stick getting fucked up all over the place with gadgets that don't work properly. That would be interesting.

Like, if you've ever read Snow by JHW3 and Seth Fisher - that's what I want.

I didn't enjoy Origins as much as the previous 2 I found the combat a lot more frustrating. The electric gloves made things a bit less frustrating later in the game. It was still good just not as enjoyable as the other two.

As for Dishonoured I really enjoyed that game but didn't own it. I don't have much faith in the new Thief game from the look of the previews.

Oh man I don't think I can summon the will power to come up with a best of list.

Here's my half assed, drunken lurch of an answer:

Best Nintendo game: Eternal Darkness, fuck mario

Best PC game: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Sony: no clue, too many to choose from

I had an original Xbox but not a whole lot of experience with Microsoft's games, never saw what the fuss with Halo was about. I liked the first Fable game, also that Xbox exclusive version of Far Cry, Far Cry Instincts was absurdly good.

Have that

I didn't find the combat too different overall. Definitely harder and faster paced. I've got access to the shock gloves but, I dunno, it feels like a bit of a cheat. That's probably one of the game's missteps for me.

The story is, as far as I've played, definitely a better than previous Arkham games but, to be fair, that isn't saying much.

Oh, and Jed? Deathstroke isn't in it nearly as much as the trailers would have you believe.

Sorry to hear about your bi-polar woes sploat, that sucks. :( I have no experience with that so I can't offer any advice, but we are here for you mane!

Anyway, it just became apparent to me that it is my bro's birthday tomorrow, and that's only because his missus just text me to remind me on. And I've just gone and spent a load of money on yet more new clothes.

I'm a bad person...

But my new jacket is superfly, so that kind of makes up for it.

Also, is it not time to get rid of this kind of moody looking twat in my avatar? Tence made me a "fake pic February" avatar, but screw that, I want that flame-haired pixie next to my posts again.

I agree with you on Knack to a point - my experience was like this:

"This is fun!" >3 hours

"This is hard. And fun! Yay! Why the hate?!?" 3 - 6 hours.

"God there are a lot of pointless cutscenes. And these characters are a miserable bunch. I'll just skip them." 6 - 8 hours

"Oh. I have to restart again. There's not much to this. " 8 - 9 hours.

"There's really nothing to this. Why is it so bland? And empty? Maybe there's some depth I've not found. I trust Cerny. " 9 - 10 hours.

"No. There's no depth. God this is a miserable game. It's more like a tech demo than a game. There's nothing to it at all." 10 - 11 hours.

"Oh sod this. The reviews were right. This is one of the most hollow games I've ever played. Damn your eyes Cerny. Still, I hope you take this MEAGRE SKETCH OF A GAME and do something fancy with Knack 2, cause it's a good concept. " 11> until I traded it in this morning.

Glad I didn't jump on the bandwagon with real-pic January.

It wouldn't have been fair anyway, I'm too devilishly handsome. I would have made you all look like the creatures from the cantina scene in Star Wars

360

Dead Rising (1) : Upskirt photo perving, megaman helmets and all the zombies you can execute. a range of weapons ranging from useless to stupid including a range of guitars which make different sounds when you hit zombies with them.

"Well he ain't my boy but the brother is heavy, gave away my possessions and moved into a chevy"

Crackdown (1) : "I can see my house from here!" Crackdown 2 should have been an expansion instead of a sequel as it damaged the brand to a point it was radioactive.

Mass Effect (1) : Nailed the 70s Sci-Fi aesthetic perfectly, sadly the sequels buried this.

Pac-Man Championship Edition DX : Perhaps the purest Arcade experience of recent years.

Rez HD : Oh god, it's 0330 and I've been playing Score Attack for 6 hours trying to unlock a Morolian suit.

PS3

Uncharted (2) : I played this one first for some reason and as such I have the fondest memories of it versus the others.

The Last of Us : See earlier, the bow & arrow was a particular highlight.

Katamari Forever : OK, it's Katamari's greatest hits but with soundtrack contributions from Hardfloor & Senor Coconut it's very much a game idea that's leaked out of my head into real life.

Yakuza (3) : Blind-sided a little by the opening in which Yakuza hardman is running an orphanage, but I'm never going to get bored of smacking people with bikes,

Flower : Maybe not quite a game in parts, but a relaxing experience.

Crossplatform :

Shadows of the Damned : Dick jokes a plenty, but the best Resident Evil game in some time.

Red Dead Redemption : Yay Cowboys.

Alpha Protocol : Fuck you Brayko. Otherwise, so many good ideas which would have resulted in something amazing if it had a little more time.

Batman : Arkham Asylum : Finally a game worthy of being able to say "I'm Batman."

Asura's Wrath : Wait, am I punching God in the face now?

Wii

Is there any point in mentioning this? I loved Wii Sports Golf especially and both Galaxys but didn't like Skyward Sword at all and played Twilight Princess on the Gamecube.

Oh and here's some music.

Ooh, I missed that. Had a lot of fun with the first one on the DS, and I should probably also give a nod to Wario Ware (well, once the main game was completed) and Super Monkey Ball which as a series was a shell of it's former self.

I second what Ninja said. All this gaming talk on a gaming forum is making me uncomfortable. Can we not just all moan about the crap we have going on in our lives? Honestly!! I wonder sometimes.

Here's mine -

Best Nintendo game of all Nintendo machines - Metroid Prime. I wish Nintendo were + Metroid - Mario - Zelda.

Best Vita game - it's Tearaway - that game is something else. But my favourite is Sine Mora.
Best on Vita etc?

Best Ps4 game - gosh there are so many! The fancy multiplatform games are fancy and good, but Resogun's the best game, really. You end up one-more-go'ing until you realise you've been forgetting to blink and your eyes hurt.

Best 3DS game - Kid Icarus Uprising. It's mot hamstrung by Nintendo's weird attitude to making a game challenging. I used to love putting the difficulty up to maximum and trying (and failing) to get very far. Although I did the first few on max. And they count.

Edit - if it's also best games evar I'd say that over the years Ive really loved Doom, Civilization, TIE Fighter, Super Probotector, Thunder Force 4, Sam and Max and Espgaluda 2 (I was in the top 20 on the iOS leaderboards at one point - I played no other game for a year). My heart is and always will be with twitchy arcade games though - Tempest, Asteroids, Missile Command etc. I remember putting 10p's into Centipede when I was tiny (my dad used to work in an arcade, y'see)

Got my list sorted. I've made it so that the Top 5 games aren't the top 5 greatest of all time (since I assume we'd all end up with the same results) but just my top 5 good games that you may not have played. Obvious nintendo first-party titles and huge franchises are excluded...if a major franchise title does appear then obviously it is used as filler. Let's begin with everyone's favourite console.

Wii
No More Heroes
Okami
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars
MadWorld
Disaster: Day of Crisis
Special Mention: Punchout!!!

PS3:
Heavy Rain
Uncharted 2
Journey
The Last of Us
WipeoutHD

360
Red Dead Redemption
Crackdown
DJ Hero 2
Skate 2
Mass Effect

PSP
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories
MGS Peace Walker
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
Tekken: Dark Resurrection
Infected

Xbox:
Kung Fu Chaos
Mashed
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Steel Battalion (lol)
Mercenaries

PS2:
GTA: San Andreas
Burnout 3 Takedown
Tony Hawk Underground
Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy)
Ace Combat: Distant Thunder (Shattered Skies)

Gamcube
Eternal Darkness
Resident Evil 4
Battalion Wars
Viewtiful Joe
TimeSplitters 2

Dreamcast
Rez
Crazy Taxi 2
Power Stone 2
Jet Set Radio
Street Fighter III: Third Strike

Nintendo 64
Beetle Adventure Racing
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Road Rash 64 (debateable)
Perfect Dark (because everyone was still too obsessed with Goldeneye)
Jet Force Gemini
Special Mention: Sin and Punishment (English version available on Virtual Console on Wii)

PSX (PSOne)
Fear Effect (only watched a friend play it and it looks neat)
Hogs of War
Chrono Cross
Parapppa the Rapper
Syndicate Wars
Special Mention: Twisted Metal

PC (Current)

Shorty has pretty good taste

Your PS3 list is good but it's missing Valkyria Chronicles.

If I could only have 5 PS3 games I would swap out Heavy Rain for VC. Heavy Rain is an important game but it's by no means my favourite.

Valkyria Chronicles is fucking excellent.
It kills me that they put the sequels on PSP :(

He mentions skate and WipEout HD, he's cool in my book.

But skate 2 was better though, fingerflips and reverts abound boyo! And you could, like, remove your feet from the board and stuff. Proper next level shit.

OK, random question, what do people make of DD/LG relationships?
I had no idea what this was, so I googled it.

No, just no. That sounds really creepy.

It's where you treat your missus like she's your daughter, read her bedtime stories and play with cuddly toys and shit.

Seriously.

Oh. I see.

I don't want to judge but I think that stuff becomes exponentially more creepy if you actually have a real daughter. But ya know, consenting adults and all that jazz. Freaky times are good times.

Game of the Gen?

A few games come to mind

Bioshock Infinite
: Easy choice, one of the most immersive experiences I've had to date, something that made me stop and appreciate the beauty of the game, also the DLC, albeit a bit short, was also awesome! and to see the underwater land of rapture rebuilt with the new better looking engine was rad.

Red Dead Redemption: A fresh look at sandboxes with the first good attempt at creating an online experience with rockstar, thoroughly enjoyed and still would if any of my frunds still played it

The Last of Us
: Another easy one, beautiful game that proved the ps3s worth years after it's original release, showing just how far it has come as a console. Only let down being the advanced AI was pretty much dropped, as highlighted in that thread over in gaming. The experience was still awesome but I wish they had been able to go that extra mile, not a complaint though, I still loved every minute of it

last one

Uncharted 2
: Just an all round awesome game. Twas one of the first games in a while to really feel like an adventure to me since the days of the PS1, it had guns, girls and some pretty wicked action. The online made me want to put a foot through a hoover however

Never got round to playing Skate 2 mate so I wasn't sure if it was better than the original :/ Glad to hear it was.

I thought Skate 2 was waaaaaaaay better. Just the fact you could jump off your board was so much fun. It's a shame they killed that series so quick, I loved it.

That's not what it is at all. Do you really think I'd get into a relationship (although I'm only asking about DD/LG relationships in general) based primarily around the partner being my 'daughter' when I have a daughter? It's wrong. The 'little' in the relationship displays childlike aesthetics but isn't actually a child themselves and the appeal is NOT the idea of a child. It's all down to sub/dom and being protective of your 'little' and the 'little' looking up to and listening to her Daddy's every word.
