But that is a lot to lay on a young director.

I approve of this. I think this is possibly the only universe Superman can operate in. I doubt it will sell thoughDiscotheque said:Euuuck. No fucking way. People cry about Burton but I would fuck shit up if Abrams got a hold of this.
Anyways a very fun and interesting Superman film would be set in the 50s and have Jon Hamm as Clark/Superman (Mad SuperMen?)
Directed by The Coen Brothers or somebody familiar with a cool aesthetic like that. And it would need robots and DoomsDay and/or Brainiac.

WB should realize that Nolan operates in the realm of "possible". Nolan is mostly fixtured on mind's incredibly mysterious nature in most of his movies like Memento (Anterograde amnesia), Insomnia, Batman Begins (fear, trauma), Dark Knight (Joker's crazy ass). Superman is as straightforward as superhero can get. The 50's were a simpler times where people didn't give a hoot about Superman blending into normal people just by wearing glasses. The movie demographic changed dramatically now and people won't buy the Superman story unless major changes are made. Bryan Singer tried to resurrect the series and even though it made money, its clear just by reading people's reactions that Superman Returns was not the definitive Superman movie people were hoping for.
In the end, sure I want Nolan to oversee the Superman project. That can only mean a good end product, and I'll be happy. But I don't know how much Nolan can contribute to an unfamiliar scenario.
I appreciate you putting that Smallville praise up top like I asked. Thanks!omg rite said:She's become a very good Lois actually. Not perfect, but very good. Watch the show before telling someone their opinion is stupid.
What did you find great about the story exactly? Because I thought the whole "Superbaby" thing was silly and Lex's evil master plan was absolutely stupid.
Not that I want to be one of the couple jackasses in this thread laughing at someone else for liking the moving. But I'm curious what you liked about the plot.
I don't think it was a terrible movie, just incredibly mediocre. People here seem to act like it was Catwoman-bad. Routh was a great Superman and Singer had a great look for the movie. It had a couple great scenes too (airplane and Superman getting the shit beat out of him at the end). Overall it was pretty boring but it had some good things going for it.

They need to ditch Lex, and bring in a foil who's actually capable of taking god mode Superman on.Mengy said:IMHO, a new Superman movie needs to a few things in order to be a better movie and franchise:
1. Make Superman not quite as super, tone down the God mode a bit.
5. Please make Superman fight something? He didnt' throw a single punch in SR, not one...
All of the above would be a good starting place for a new movie, IMHO.

This. Singer ruined SR, he hasnt made one good film since Xmen 1.Solo said:The problem with SR is that its 2+ hours of Singer jerking off to the original Superman movie.
Willy105 said:The reason people loved Superman Returns was because it wasn't a mediocre movie. It was something else that you would expect from a superhero movie. There are no super-powered fights or super-powered villains. It's all about Superman finding his place in the world.
Instead of action, the movie is all about character development and internal struggle. The airplane scene was an OK scene to introduce Lois, but it's not the best part of the movie, and if people think it is, they don't get the point. It's about how things change when you let them pass by.
I was bug-eyed thru the entire thing, and it is the only live action Superhero movie I own on DVD. It was a fantastic movie for those who expect more out of their superhero films.
It also didn't hurt that it was expertly shot, directed, acted, scripted, and scored.
Discotheque said:They should also set it in the 50s. Keep the clothes and cars period. And get some really crazy intergalactic bad guys.
Tobor said:It should be the 30's. And make it like the Fleischer cartoons, with Supes fighting giant robots and shit.

Kids kill shit. They are fucking monsters in that way. Phantom Menace was horrible to start with, but that punk kid made it the most miserable 2 hour + flick I've ever watched. I wanted my brain to strangle itself to escape the horror of Jake Lloyd and the stupidity that surrounded him, thanks George.
AVATAR 2 has a fucking kid in it, it's doomed too.

It's more about Singer wanting Superman to be recognized as the second coming of Jesus. "Oh, some middling emotional conflict, time to fly up into space and strike the cross pose yet again!" It didn't work. At all.
