What about a GOOD movie based around Mister Freeze?
Come on the character deserves more than frigging Batman and Robin!
without the hurricane of puns please(or should I say blizzard of puns)

I'm afraid my condition has left me cold to your pleas of mercy.

Euuuck. No fucking way. People cry about Burton but I would fuck shit up if Abrams got a hold of this.

Anyways a very fun and interesting Superman film would be set in the 50s and have Jon Hamm as Clark/Superman (Mad SuperMen? :D )

Directed by The Coen Brothers or somebody familiar with a cool aesthetic like that. And it would need robots and DoomsDay and/or Brainiac.

I remember hearing that the dude who did V for Vendetta and Ninja Assassin was rumored to be on for the next Superman movie so at the screening of Ninja Assassin I was at when I was leaving (and where Warner Bros execs were in the hallway) about halfway through the movie, I said really loud, "Man, I would be fucking pissed if he did the Superman reboot" so that the execs could hear me. I wonder if they took my word of advice in account.

Hopefully DC keeps the current trend of having their writers assist in the production. Geoff Johns has his hands all over Flash/Metal Men/Shazam. That said, keep Mark Millar the fuck away from it.

Missed this.

I approve of this. I think this is possibly the only universe Superman can operate in. I doubt it will sell though :p

The reason people loved Superman Returns was because it wasn't a mediocre movie. It was something else that you would expect from a superhero movie. There are no super-powered fights or super-powered villains. It's all about Superman finding his place in the world.

Instead of action, the movie is all about character development and internal struggle. The airplane scene was an OK scene to introduce Lois, but it's not the best part of the movie, and if people think it is, they don't get the point. It's about how things change when you let them pass by.

I was bug-eyed thru the entire thing, and it is the only live action Superhero movie I own on DVD. It was a fantastic movie for those who expect more out of their superhero films.

It also didn't hurt that it was expertly shot, directed, acted, scripted, and scored.

Batman SubZero

It's the second best reviewed Batman movie ever, after The Dark Knight, on RottenTomatoes.

District 9 had incredible action scenes. Avatar, Children of Men, Dark Knight batmobile chase, etc etc.

WB should realize that Nolan operates in the realm of "possible". Nolan is mostly fixtured on mind's incredibly mysterious nature in most of his movies like Memento (Anterograde amnesia), Insomnia, Batman Begins (fear, trauma), Dark Knight (Joker's crazy ass). Superman is as straightforward as superhero can get. The 50's were a simpler times where people didn't give a hoot about Superman blending into normal people just by wearing glasses. The movie demographic changed dramatically now and people won't buy the Superman story unless major changes are made. Bryan Singer tried to resurrect the series and even though it made money, its clear just by reading people's reactions that Superman Returns was not the definitive Superman movie people were hoping for.

In the end, sure I want Nolan to oversee the Superman project. That can only mean a good end product, and I'll be happy. But I don't know how much Nolan can contribute to an unfamiliar scenario.

first off, people in the world at large don't really assume that superman has a secret identity because they have seen Clark and superman togheter at the same time, so it's dumb to say that you as the reader or "GOD" has to assume that everyone in the narrative will think along the same lines as the reader. (i.e that Clark is superman) so leave that alone.

She's become a very good Lois actually. Not perfect, but very good. Watch the show before telling someone their opinion is stupid.

What did you find great about the story exactly? Because I thought the whole "Superbaby" thing was silly and Lex's evil master plan was absolutely stupid.

Not that I want to be one of the couple jackasses in this thread laughing at someone else for liking the moving. But I'm curious what you liked about the plot.

I don't think it was a terrible movie, just incredibly mediocre. People here seem to act like it was Catwoman-bad. Routh was a great Superman and Singer had a great look for the movie. It had a couple great scenes too (airplane and Superman getting the shit beat out of him at the end). Overall it was pretty boring but it had some good things going for it.
I appreciate you putting that Smallville praise up top like I asked. Thanks!

Opening scene better be Superman crushing Lex Luthor's head between his hands. that fucker needs to die and GTFO of these films like, pronto.

I want DC to make a Superman movie and have cameo's with Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern, then I want a Flash film with cameo's from Superman and Ryan Reynolds and then I want Batman 3 with cameo's and a Wonder Woman (Megan Fox) film with cameo's.

Then I want a Justice League movie

By 2015 i'm expecting a Justice League VS. Avengers movie.

btw they should just tell his origin in like one minute or something, like they did with Green Lantern: First Flight.

edit: here

this is some good news. +1 vote for Jon Hamm. He'd be a great established version of Superman. (Being a Smallville guy, I'd love to see Welling get the nod but that'll never happen)

I hope they bring Brainiac as the main villain for the next movie and leave Lex on the sideline. I'd love to see Michael Emerson play/voice Brainiac or the Riddler in the next Batman.

Especially if they adapt the recent Brainiac storyline.

They wouldn't have to add the whole New Krypton aspect, but it would give Superman the bigger threat everyone has been asking for.

Or, you know, not make him camp?

A superman movie would have to be completley different from everything that came before and from the comic book. He's just such a tired and old-fashioned character.

The only Superman movie I'd be interested in would be a Red Son adaptation.

I'm just messing with you. Besides, I've been ignoring your movie opinions since the Transformers 2 thread anyway. ;)

The question remains: what did I like more? Transformers 2 ... or Avatar?

The world may never know.

IMHO, a new Superman movie needs to a few things in order to be a better movie and franchise:

1. Make Superman not quite as super, tone down the God mode a bit.
5. Please make Superman fight something? He didnt' throw a single punch in SR, not one...

All of the above would be a good starting place for a new movie, IMHO.
They need to ditch Lex, and bring in a foil who's actually capable of taking god mode Superman on.

I still want to see a high level superfight with Supes getting knocked through buildings etc and having to deal with the aftermath. Then the villain could pop up one more time for some kind of grand finale.

Just removing him to the background of 'kingpin' like in the Animated series is good enough. Just having him suggested in Luther corp. would be sufficient to believe that he's there, but without putting him on the screen.

I mean, Luther isn't really a villian to begin with. Red Son has a good take on the Superman-Luther relationship. Even the "Doomsday" animated movie has Luther as an observer, not an active villian.

Will i ever see a kick ass Superman movie where he fights Darkseid in Apokolips, like the brilliant Animated Series? Come on, it's not that hard.

Seriously, that show was incredible.

QFT. This show out did the comics at times, imo. The writing was fantastic.

*Superman punches Darkseid*

Superman - "Thats for Dan Turpin!"

Darkseid - "Who?"

Superman - "The good man you murdered!"

Darkseid - "Had i'd known that the death of human would pain you so, i would have killed more."

Remove the incredibly poor kid sub-plot and I'd be right there next to you defending it. As it is? No. I enjoyed virtually everything else, but that damn kid just ruined the whole effort. Kids kill shit. They are fucking monsters in that way. Phantom Menace was horrible to start with, but that punk kid made it the most miserable 2 hour + flick I've ever watched. I wanted my brain to strangle itself to escape the horror of Jake Lloyd and the stupidity that surrounded him, thanks George.

AVATAR 2 has a fucking kid in it, it's doomed too.

They should also set it in the 50s. Keep the clothes and cars period. And get some really crazy intergalactic bad guys.

This...

It should be the 30's. And make it like the Fleischer cartoons, with Supes fighting giant robots and shit.

This more!

Have it a period piece. I always felt Superman just seems so hokey and out of place in modern times. Plus, I'm use to seeing him as an older character, mature and somewhat wise. I hate this "young actor" revamp crap.

Give me a 35-40 year old Supes in a 1930's metropolis with a Braniac and monsters much like the robots in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow or Iron Giant, and I'll wet my pants in delight!

As awesome as this sounds, how reliable is this "Deadline" source?
It's Deadline aka Nikki Finke.

The most reliable showbiz blog out there for early scoops like this. She broke the Paramount going HDDVD exclusive thing and LOTS of other big stories.

Deadline is where all the industry peeps go to get the latest dirt.

Eeeehhhhhhhhh....

It's more about Singer wanting Superman to be recognized as the second coming of Jesus. "Oh, some middling emotional conflict, time to fly up into space and strike the cross pose yet again!" It didn't work. At all.

I nominate these 3....

Ra's Al Ghul.
Catwoman.
Black mask.

Though I'd prefer to keep letting Nolan do things we aren't expecting, I would love, love to see his take on Catwoman, since it would be far more along the lines of what I want to see done with her - as in, the more "realistic" take to combat the countless ridiculous examples we've had before.

Superman has fallen of to Aquaman level of staleness.... No one wants a 7th Superman movie.

Seriously make a Flash, Wonder Woman or a Shazam movie before this crap.

I WANT TO SEE THIS.

Bale and Routh combo!

The kid was the best part, it's the reason the whole story exists.

Didn't see much of that in Superman Returns. At all.

Now, Narnia 2, that was like that.

Nolan should direct Superman first, let Batman simmer a bit. Or make them back to back and have them come out the same summer, whatever works, I need more Nolan lovin!

The problem with these Superman movies is he is always getting his ass beaten by humans, he needs to throw down with Darkseid, Doomsday or Brainiac.

Batman Err Begins had to come back from the depths of Batman and Robin and the public embraced it. The new Superman reboot has it easy.

Superman is modern day mythology.

EDIT: Changed Returns to Begins as I'm having a brain fart.
