Cincinnati braces for footage release in campus cop killing (Up: Murder charge)

Thanks for posting. So from what I can see...

-Guy closes his door, says he's not getting out.
-Cop reaches for keys
-Guy floors it (?)
-A split second (literally half a second) the cop grabbed his gun and shot the guy in the face

If the cop was dragged like he said he was, it was for no more than a second it seemed. I can't believe how fast everything happened. Is that what looks like happened?

The guy never accelerated before being shot, his dead body caused the car to accelerate.

A lot of university cops are private not public I thought.

Depends. It's possible to have an armed security force I suppose - especially at private universities. But cops at least at public schools are generally sworn state employees and officers. And yeah, they might have their own jurisdictional agreements with the police forces nearby so that they respond to campus issues and issues immediately off-campus before a city or county force takes over.

What a a fucking psychopath. Seems that if you want to kill someone you just join the police.
Police really need regular routine psychoanalysis. Not that that will help anything as they'll probably still stay on the force.

I can't even tell what happens. It's like everything spins in a circle and the next thing I know the car is stopped and I'm assuming Mr. Dubose has already been shot.

edit: nvm I must have been watching versions where stuff is edited out. the youtube link above shows him pulling a gun and like a second later the car is stopped.

Yeah watching it again that's what it looks like. Holy crap.

I think when the cop shot him killing the man causing the car to accelerate which caused the stupid cop to fall. I think the report said originally he tore his uniform and hurt his ankle or something?

Showcases what a great thing body cameras are. I will admit, in the original thread, I was siding with the officer, under the assumption that the victim was drunk.

Just saw the unedited video. Wow... That was rough. So easily could have been me if my skin was just a little darker.

From what I can see, officer goes to open door, dude closes door, officer shoots (?), and the car seems to drive away after the shot (?) it's difficult to make out. Even more difficult to watch. Either way, no reason for the officer to even pull his weapon. Tragic.

EDIT: You can see it way more clearly in the video above. "Take your seatbelt off", "I didn't do anything", cop grabs the victim's hand, positions himself, and bam shot to the head. Car drives after the victim is already dead. Disgusting. Absolutely murder, execution style.

Pretty much what I gathered...
- Guy gets pulled over
- Refuses to get out of car
- Cop reaches for keys
- Guy resists
- Cop shoots guy during struggle
- Car goes forward due to him probably being KO'd

Yep ... he guilty.

Is there dashcam footage?

So senseless, based on the bodycam footage. Guy is pulled over for some stupid technicality.

So tragic hearing him say "I didn't do anything" and then not 10 seconds later, he's been shot in the head. Life over.

Everything I'm reading seems to indicate that the U of Cincy PD is paid for by the University but accredited by the State.

I live in the Walnut Hills neighborhood in Cincinnati. Which is a 30 second drive from UC campus.

I'm pretty proud of the city for prosecuting the shooter. Not only prosecuting him, but pursuing Murder and life in prison.

After all of the terrible crimes committed by police officers in this city and around the country it is a relief to see something change. A change for the better.

The Prosecutor even mentioned that he didn't think the campus should have their own PD wow.

I think campuses should certainly have a permanent police presence on campus at all times if they have residences on campus. And I guess even if not.

So if the alternative is to have the city/county police take over jurisdiction and operations, they would need to be on campus still. But then again, it's not like local police are devoid of issues given the vast majority of cases like these involve local police.

Yeah i think that something they ask white people if they look young or hill billish.

While I would never compare my situation to being a minority, as a 40 year old non-hillbillish white man I have been asked this question more than once for a traffic stop. I've also had a cop pull his gun on me without a good reason.

This stuff is all totally irrelevant. None of these other elements matter when it is so obviously just straight murder.

It is also a common question racist cops ask minorities to imply this car couldn't possibly be their car and they probably clearly stole it.

Just am questioning whether that it is a common question. Like whether most cops say/do racist things to minorities. Yes, it happens. Is it common/frequent? Show me a source for such an accusation besides saying "ask black people". I have friends and family members who are black and have been pulled over for speeding. Never faced any racism. Those are my few data points, and not enough to make a strong, generalizing opinion on. So I'm just curious how you (and the other psoters who agree with you) made your opinion. Racism bothers me, and wide net casting of racist accusations also bothers me. Just trying to keep things honest here.

Right. That's how my campus was setup. But by virtue of being a public/state supported university, the budget for operations ultimately comes from a public entity and is regulated by the state board of education or legislature.
