Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 reaches 500k copies sold in a day (UP: 1 million copies in 3 days)

I started it today, and so far it's really damn good.
the combat system is really fun (I play on hard... forgot what they call it) and engaging.

the vibes at the start reminded me a little bit of Resonance of Fate, which is also a big plus as well.
the soundtrack is insane so far too.

my only gripe is that it's UE5, and has all the typical UE5 ugliness 🫤

I only buy a game if i want to support the devs because the quality of the game… but buying all the first party games on Xbox when only i have to pay 9 dollars to have access to then make no sense to me… Especially for games that i am going to play one time. The gamepass is the only reason that i have to keep my Series X. I avoid to pay full price on the PlayStation eco system.
That's great. Not every console or every service is for everyone. I am glad that you find Game Pass beneficial. In the end, it looks like we are still both enjoying the games we want! 🥰

GP is the only reason to have an Xbox right now…
The only reason to keep the Xbox right now is when Phil removes the limitation to install Steam on it.

Yeah the engine is the only big draw back so far. Not only does the game scale terribly on handhelds but there's so much awkward post-processing and physics no matter how you tinker with settings. Oh well, on the plus side it would probably not have been feasible to create a game on this scale on a proprietary engine to boot.

This game should sell MILLIONS. Played more today and I'm loving the combat music characters etc

30 PEOPLE > Naughty Dog confirmed

I was looking forward for it since the announcement but i didn't think 30 people would beat the Japanese at their own game, Atlus and Square Enix should learn a thing or two and improve from them

I think so. It has light parry and dodge mechanics which allow for really satisfying counter attacks. The combat is a little convoluted, but it's reasonably simple to setup satisfying builds.

Music is brilliant. Story is daft, but holds your attention.

It's worth trying.
Thanks for the feedback! I decided to buy it on PS5 Pro and see how it is. I love supporting indie developers anyway.

Millions prefer to buy games and have them in their library of games and not be tied to a subscription. I buy my games, I buy my movies. I don't rent movies, I don't subscribe to Netflix, MAX, etc.

I am glad their are subscriptions out there for those that it appeals to. But millions want nothing to do with them. The only reason I have Game Pass Core and PS Essentials is for the online access.

neil degrasse tyson we got a badass over here GIF

Good one dude. Combat in this game is an amazing evolution of the turn based genre and its fun af
There are pros and cons here.
On the plus side - you can beat tougher enemies purely with skill. No need to grind for hours just to match their level.
On the downside - it's not for everyone. Players looking for old-school, slower-paced, strategic planning might be disappointed. I've already seen a few negative Steam reviews pointing this out.

Wait that place still exists.

*checks*

Yup its like 10 dudes circle jerking over how great anything Playstation does is.
Their Clair thread had like 12 posters.....seriously, this might be game of the year 12?
I closed the tab when I went into the Marathon thread, its literally just @ethomaz talking to himself.......im surprised @James Sawyer Ford isnt on that site.

Hahaha this made me laugh. Thanks man. I check that site once in a while and its so cringe. I was there, got accepted, then after 2 days went on a full self bam rant calling them all out lmao and got banned for spam .

Outside of thinking the combat has some major feature creep, I think it's a solid game. Hoping what they do next builds on this and adds more exploration / adventure vibes.

Meanwhile Ubisoft only ever mentioned players for Shadows lmao
I mean they have their own sub service that they want you to sub to, no way they're not promoting that.

I think it's stupid for them to have a sub service with day 1 games, but the two situations are different.

Damn, 1 million copies sold in 3 days! That word of mouth is doing some good work.

It should hopefully reach 2 million copies sold in the next couple of weeks or maybe a month, and with some sales later down the road, it should do 3-4 million by the end of the year.

Yeah I'm expecting the same now. If it has managed to sell a 1 million copies in 3 days, I think it will have legs 3-5 million by the end of the year or next year.

Absolutely earned.

Showed my wife the trailers and we decided to play through it together (she backseat drives). Just got to the world map - fantastic so far. Unique setting, great concept, outstanding execution. It's largely everything I've wanted modern Final Fantasy to be, which Square Enix seems allergic to making.

Wish the team all the success in the world.

I turned of motion blut and vignette.
Film grain is barely visible and chromatic abberation actually adds to the style in this game, but you can turn that off too.

Forcing the transformer model for DLSS 4 is also a nice improvement in image clarity and a must if you're on Nvidia.

Overall i don't see this UE5 ugliness you are speaking of, in this game at least.
It looks kind of a mix between UE4 and 5 because that's what it is.
Nanite would have been nice and not so fuzzy hair but the game is still beautiful :D

It's currently the Best Seling PS5 game on Amazon.

I was going to wait and buy it later, but I'm thinking of buying it right now.

Well if you're thinking on buying it from Amazon they'll probably ship your copy sometime in May.

Best to check your local best buy, target, etc to see if still have copies in stock.

My closest Best Buy stores are sold out of it. I'm just going to order through Amazon, as I'm in no rush to play, but want to support and want a physical copy.

I'm far from done with this game, but it deserves it. Hope it sells even more so we can get another one.

Also fuck square and final fantasy.
