It's changing it's creative team.

Oh man, that's a shame. WW is pretty much the only DC book I read at the moment, and it's mostly because of Cliff Chiang's art. I can't stand the DC house style. I've really enjoyed the book, hopefully whoever's taking over keeps the same sort of vibe going there.

I used to read Supergirl but sort of dropped off after a while. Same with Batman, there were too many books to follow. I'm sure I'm missing out on some good titles, but I need a NOW! style jumping on point to help me get back into whatever's going on.

Well I'm almost finished reading Joe the Barbarian. The writing is good, but MAN the Sean Murphy art is fantastic. Now I'm really excited for those Punk Rock Jesus and The Wake hardcovers solicited a few days back.

Speaking of The Wake, are people still liking it? I feel like everyone has completely stopped talking about it.

I am liking The Wake!! I got the first volume (#1-#5) awhile back,, and now I'm pulling the singles every month. Awesomeness, Sean Murphy is one of my favorite artist. And I really like what they're doing with the story coming back after the break..

The last issue #6 left me jonesin for #7, great art, awesome story, I really like that in #6 it started the story in a whole new world (basically..kinda..
200 years into the flooded future
) . One of the books I really look forward to every month!

Are we talking Wolverine and the X-Men NOW! style where they do literally nothing to explain what is happening at all and pick up in the middle of an ongoing storyline?

but I am taking tiny steps forward
Still one of my favorite books, but I think it'll read better when it's all collected. There was a long break between halves and the first issue of the second half was pretty exposition-heavy, so I'm not surprised nobody is really talking about it right now.

Thanks guys! I'll definitely be picking up the hardcover when it's released then. What I can't understand is why the hardcover doesn't seem to be oversized. How can you present Murphy's art in standard size and not feel like you're doing a massive disservice? Either way though, I'm really excited to read it.

Yeah, Joe is a really simple concept, and seemingly simple story, but the real genius of it all is the
hypoglycemic world being a direct reflection of the real world
. The first sweep-through of Joe's house is done so deliberately, and every aspect of the rooms and the rooms themselves are shown because you're going to go through them again, but in
hypoglycemic world
. Murphy really busted out his best work for that one and it's truly impressive.

Yeah, the art/concept was very well done (just finished it). Those pages you mentioned of Joe initially walking through the house were incredibly well done. I spent so much time looking at those pages.

All in all, the book really reminded me of I Kill Giants due to the similar theme/tone. I ought to reread that one sometime. I've been meaning to pick up the Titan Edition.

Hmm, I haven't had a chance to read that series yet so I'm not sure. I picked up Uncanny and All-New X-Men with their relaunches which had a bunch of stuff that I had no idea about, basically the teams themselves and Xavier being dead but didn't feel stranded too much as they then began new arcs. For the most part though the Marvel line has been good at keeping things simple for newcomers, at least as far as I've found.

DC did something a while back where they relaunched a bunch of titles which is when I started picking up Wonder Woman, Supergirl and Batman, but I wouldn't have a clue what's going on with Green Lantern, Aquaman or any other DC hero at the moment, that's really what I'm getting at. Marvel keeps launching these new lines of titles I'm vaguely familiar with and giving them a fresh look, which is making me want to give them a chance. I don't really know what's going on with the main DC titles, plus there doesn't seem to be much along the lines of Hawkeye, Daredevil, FF, Black Widow etc where the art is a big draw and there's a lot of variation, all the DC titles seem to blend in together. Looking up articles about what DC books I should be reading I saw that Animal Man had a Jeff Lemire run which looks really distinctive, but that's just ended. I might be missing a bunch and completely uninformed, I don't know. I read a few Vertigo titles so I'm not against the company completely. I just want something to show me "Hey, this is a great time to start reading this story about (X)!" which makes it stand out. I literally have no idea of who is a hero in the DC universe outside of the Justice League, and the mythology for stuff like Green Lantern seems so dense that I'd never be able to start.

Oh I understand brah. I was just making snark at my one step into the Marvel Now stuff being a less than stellar experience. But the issues haven't been reviewing well either so that's also part of it. I've found relying on friends suggestions to be the best and only real means for jumping on points.

Who else read the final issue of Animal Man?
I thought it was a nice wrap up for the series and really enjoyed how they incorporated the section Lemire drew into the narrative. It had a really nice last page, a very touching moment for Buddy.

Oh okay, yeah that's fine. I'm happy to take recommendations about DC stuff, I just think part of why I feel like I need something like NOW it is that it just seems like DC's lineup is all Superman, Batman, Green Lanterns and hardly anything else. They're all some combination of those three. It'd be like if there were only Avengers or X-Men books (and yeah, there's a lot of those). There's so few solo titles and different stuff out there that I don't really know where to start on reading something new. Marvel's been great about bringing out books for all these different characters.

See I saw the cover and thought the whole thing was drawn by Lemire, didn't realise that wasn't the case. That's why I mentioned it in my other post, thought it was something that broke the DC house style.

Couldn't find it at the damn shop. I need closure with this Animal Man run, no matter how much most of it disappointed me. Could be another two decades before we get a new Animal Man run....which is really shitty. Plus, FOREMAN!

Travel Foreman (who doesn't really fit the DC house style either) drew the opening and closing pages and Lemire drew the middle section. Foreman was the original artist on the book and had to leave it due to personal issues.

Damn that sucks. I'm probably gonna try and find a print copy this weekend, because I love the cover so much. If they have multiple copies want me to grab one for you?

I'm a little crazy, a little insane. I have a problem that I had to promise would die down after this.

What is girly about it?

Really?? This is not a judgement call at all, but it's full of girl stuff. And I mean that in a girl-positive way. My wife loves these comics, Harley is her favourite character along with stuff like Lenore and those Grim Fairy Tale books and all that jazz. This book seems tailored to a certain kind of female fan (or male fans, I get it) - the slapstick violence and tone, the talking rodent thing, the stuff with Ivy. There are books I like and there are books my wife likes, this is the latter.

I can't believe I had to spell that out. U trolling?

He was criticizing you for criticizing the book for not being dark and gritty.

I wasn't even criticising it. It's fine if your tastes are in that direction.

I don't even like grimdark comics, I take the piss out of them relentlessly.

Anyway, enough foolishness! COMICS:

So on my way home I read three comics. All three comics had that thing where someone is watching evens unfold on a monitor (usually just a paste of a previous panel). WTF is this shit? Who is supposed to be filming this? In Superman Unchained, where was the camera with Lois and Supes in the air? In UXM how did the camera get that close up of Cyke's face? And why is he shouting right into the lens?? And even more perplexingly, how in Avengers World did they get a shot of the Avengers trapped in the land of the dead - from the perspective of the river??

Are comics universes full of floating invisible camera droids that nobody talks about? WHAT IS THIS SHENANIGANS??!!

So yeah, all the comics were pretty gud. Avengers World is so close to the chopping block though. I liked the Starbrand stuff, he's an interesting character. But that ending. WTF LMAO at that ending and
Morgana Le Fey's gigantic titties? Is that a character trait like Power Girl? Were the nipples really necessary?

Lots of questions today.

I think of the new WATXM more like a season 2 than a new thing entirely. For a new season opener it was pretty good.

Ah, appreciate the offer, brotha, but I just called in the shop and had them stash one away for me.

Though, if you wanted to go in on this here ORIGINAL COVER ART for the issue, that'd be rad. We could frame it and alternate weeks having it!

If money was no object that cover would be en route to my house as we speak. Maybe he'll sell prints of it.

Just read the first Fear Agent tpb (Reignition). Holy hell that was a fun read, I love me some good ole fashioned pulpy sci-fi. Looks like I'll be joining the legions of ComicGaf who own the library edition. When does volume two come out?

ComicList has it listed for next week. Amazon has no date.

I can't wait. The first volume is the by far the comic of highest quality I own.

A little help please:
Which issue had a splash page with Batman and Robin with the speech bubble 'Batman and Robin will never die!'

...

I've gotta figure out why my phone's browser stops some pictures from loading and not others. Or switch browsers when I'm at work. Battery almost dead because it loaded those statue pictures when it shouldn't load any pictures I don't click on to view.

finished another trade before my dcbs shipment comes tomorrow.

Wolverine: Not Dead Yet HC by Warren Ellis. It was an enjoyable Wolverine story to a degree but it felt right to the point and i don't think Ellis succeeded in making me care about
Mcleish before he set out to kill Wolverine.
The story didn't stand out, but it wasn't terrible, and the art was nice. Arbitrary 6/10.

Palmiotti and his other writing partner, Amanda Conner, will also release an annual-style one-shot for their ongoing Harley Quinn series called Harley Quinn Invades San Diego Comic-Con, also in July. No details were released, but we assume it involves Harley Quinn going to San Diego Comic-Con, officially known as Comic-Con International: San Diego. No artist was announced for the one-shot.
