Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls |OT| Monokuma and Co.

They explain that better later. But as usual, Nagito is batshit insane.
Ah. ok.

You don't want an answer to this now, but what you're saying applies to DR2; the character said the exact same stuff in that game, too. The answer is clear, though, and is perfectly in line with their contradictory nature.

Did he? It's been a while since I've played it.

And fuck the loading times in this game. Especially when accidentally walking backwards to the previous section.

Also, what happens
when you lose the groping minigame
in chapter 3. And
Comaru?
They really had to throw that in there?

And can anyone help with chapter 4's
treasure chest challenge?

Early Chapter 5

I have to say i'm surprised at the porn and lewd stuff i'm finding in the kids rooms
I thought I might see something in Kotoko's room but not in Jataro and Nagisa's room

I must have missed something. What was it?

Surely you don't mean Jataro's busts?

So I just finished the Train in chapter 3.

I kind of want to stop playing. Yes, I know that to sell a Vita game in Japan this stuff makes a meaningful impact, but it's just so gross. Almost wish they just put a Modern Warfare 2 style prompt in to skip the offensive content.

spoiler links

Thanks, I think I recall seeing something suspicious
in Jataro's room
, but I didn't notice the others at all.

Spoilers for the entire game: I think it might be an interesting way to show that, fundamentally,
the Warriors of Hope were all two-faced—just like Monaca—and they all had "Demon-like" tendencies. Nagisa was the one who was the most open about it in his journals.

Funnily enough, the girl on the magazine in Nagisa's room is the same girl on the poster from Chapter 2 of the first Danganronpa.

The Ultimate Pin-up Girl; the hidden link behind the Ultimate Fashionista's influence.

Fortunately, apart from one other scene(that's not as bad and also completely random:
In a boss fight, komaru gets two extra hearts of HP from her clothes, The fact that her clothes get ripped off(down to her underwear) isn't even acknowledged in the cutscene, or in dialogue)
(minor ch 4 spoilers), that's about it for the skeevy stuff. But yeah, that was pretty badly handled.
I mean, on the one hand if they're going to make child abuse the central subject of the antagonists, it's hard to avoid talking about pedophilia, on the other they really didn't need a tentacle minigame.
(back to ch 3).

You guys are overreacting to that dumb minigame.

No, I don't think so. It was highly unnecessary and counter to the meaningfulness of what they were trying to convey through that whole theme. Not only was it a mechanically bad mini-game that was a waste of time, but it was also in bad taste.

The fact that it happens in the narrative could be questionable—although I'd personally be fine with it—but the fact that it requires agency from the player for whatever reason is stupid.

Probably anecdotal evidence but I had preordered the game on amazon.de shortly before release. My order still hasn't shipped and the game is now out of stock.
I contacted amazon if they have any problems and was told that they had too many preorders and run out of stock and my order will be fulfilled with the next shipment.
Yay if that means the game is selling well here :) (still sucks having to wait)

Hey all, wondering if someone could help me out with a Monokuma Room in Ch. 4

it's one where there's a stationary line of four of the jetpack Monokumas and three grenade Monokumas that are moving back and forth. Bullets available are Break, Move, and Dance.

I feel like I've tried everything ;_;

Here ya go.

Sorry for the shitty quality pictures. I would take screenshots but for whatever reason this game can't be open while you use other apps on the Vita and I don't feel like running to save point before closing it :p

No worries. :p

Make the single one dance when he's on the left part of his route, then wait for the two grenade ones to move to the left of him, then shoot kill the single one to make him explode and knock the other two to the left and explode and kill the flying guys.

fuck chapter 4. had to look up that, chest challenge, and 2 more monoku-man challenges.

plus i had to retry way to many times.

I'm kind of torn on the handling of
Kotoko
in general. On one hand, I think most aspects were handled extremely well contextually. The question is whether Danganrona's typical dark humor and occasional light-hearted presentation despite the heavy subject matter is in poor taste or not when addressing that specific subject.

The panty-shots and stripping in general is kind of offset by the fact she's wearing bloomers and a night gown, neither with risque designs for the purpose of sexualization.

As for the mini-game, I think it's mostly there to show just how broken Kotoko is as far as sexuality goes, which is taken further in the kill list entries that were likely written by her and apparently the bonus novel based on what I heard. While on the extreme end (just like everything else in the game), it does exhibit a degree of understanding regarding child sexual abuse victims (increased promiscuity and warped views in spite of the trigger word "gentle").

That being said, perhaps the mini-game did not actually need to be there, even if the machine itself arguably adds depth to the character and thus could have been portrayed in a cutscene rather than something with player agency.

So yes, even if chapter 3 is one giant trigger waiting to happen, I'm of the opinion it was relatively well-executed and the discomfort that came from it was mostly intentional in a non-exploitative sense.

Is Haiji a
pedophille?

I am not too sure. Some people here think so, but I disagree.
He shows no positive reaction whatsoever towards Kotoko or Monaca and in general only has hate for the kids. Considering how carefree he talks about the subject "I want them young" I am still pretty sure he likes them young but with developed bodies.

So after chapter three and everything in it, chapter four has you
Team up with a pedophile, and Komaru says he's kinda hot for being so upfront about being a pedophile. It's obvious he's a villain, but still.

I really hope Danganronpa 3 has none of this stuff in it.

Is Haiji a
pedophille?

Interestingly, TVtropes (yes, I know...) calls this value dissonance:

Haiji admitting to being a Lolicon isn't to come off as overly questionable, but to English speaks is him essentially admitting to being a pedophile.

I'm not really sure what the point is though. I mean, I understand that it's a character archetype in Japanese media with a generally comedic portrayal, showing said character as ultimately harmless, but it's still weird to see it in a game that at points treats the subject matter VERY seriously.

Edit: And yeah, there's also the fact
he shows nothing but hatred for kids throughout most of the game, so it's really just 2 throwaway lines that contribute absolutely nothing beyond giving people another reason to hate him.

I don't think (at least it didn't seem to me) that he hates kids in general, just the kids currently killing people in Towa City

So anyway, I want to talk about the scene I found most disturbing, and it actually wasn't anything in chapter 3, but rather chapter 2.

I'm of course talking about Jataro's diorama. It was a masterfully-executed and unsettling scene even beyond what's initially apparent.

It starts innocently enough, but it's quite obvious things will take a turn for the worse right from the beginning. However, there's so much more to it than that. The static transition to the Monokuma holding the puppet perches was a nice touch, as was the single corpse's head going slack, but that's not all. The scene perfectly takes advantage of the game's adult-portraying silhouette art style. As horrifying as the scene is, there's still a sort of visual disconnect for the viewer when they just see a non-detailed shape. Yet, this was one of the only scenes that ventured outside of that when showing NPCs by actually partially displaying the awful positions the corpses were in. Not showing the face of the lone woman was also great, as it lets the imagination run wild of what kind of expression she was making. And immediately after that, the silhouettes return, but the player has already been reminded that "yes, these are people", so the attempt at lightening the scene is intentionally useless as our imagination continues to run wild.

You can also see an arm hanging off one of the corpse's while the next corpse over is missing most of his despite forcibly waving what remains of it in the air. With the detailed images of the corpses a second prior, our minds fill in the blanks of the dancing armless silhouette and it's not a pretty sight.

The only thing that could have made that scene more effective is if there was no implication that Jataro just found bodies and desecrated their corpses. Then, we could have imagined that those screws and nails and stuff being driven into their bodies was the cause of death, which just creates another horrifying image of the obscured adults' facial expressions.

My copy hasnt turned up yet, fucking sucks. Come on postman dude

I've downloaded the jp voice pack in the meantime. Gonna be good.

Chapter 4 Monoku-man room, I have no idea what I'm doing in the one where I have to
destroy the floor.

if you are still having probs, post a pic of the arcade screen. don't remember off hand what to do.

also, ch.4 seems like it is the longest. also makes me not want to ever replay this game.

The hint said I need to start a chain reaction by controlling something, I'm assuming it's the Monokuma on the far right but I have no idea how to start the explosions without knocking the Bombers off the crack in the floor they're already on, and then there's the other cracked floor the little further to the left offscreen.

oh yeah,
move the monokuma in the far back to the blast mark in front. then just shoot the monokuma that's now in back until he falls and explodes. i don't know if it makes a difference or not but did you blow up the bomber monokuma in the previous room to drop the floor with the train a bit

Karen Strassman does not voice Monaca, no. It's Cristina Vee who voices Monaca.

Also, yes, you can get lower than a B, I just got a D.

oh, there was a point towards the end of ch.4 where she sounded a lot like Nanako.

Do retries count against your grade? because I thought I was going to get a worse grade than a b because i retried A LOT, 21 to be precise.

Yeah retries count against your grade. Retried 5 times and collected everything else, got a C. -_-
Well, I have to replay most of the game anyway to find the rest of the collectibles.

I think I remember where she did sound like her a little, yeah. I was hoping Nanako's VA would be cast for this game though, not for Monaca however but for Hiroko. She can pull of a husky/sultry womans voice really well.

I liked the murder mystery of D1 and 2 but found everything related to the remnants of despair/Junko to be extremely ridiculous. Like...way over the top and plain bad. However I still enjoyed the ride and was hooked till the reveal.

Should I give AE a shot? I feel that I should skip it since it seems to be about the stuff I didn't like in the others games yet I'm still undecided.

Given the story is still important to the DR chain of events, I would say you shouldn't skip it.

What difficulty setting do you suggest? I play these games mostly for the story so I am leaning to the easy difficulty setting.

I've been playing on despair so far...and yeah, its easy.

Oh yeah just bought a pstv for £20! Time for some 55" toko fun despair time

But really, I got it due to the controls. Controls on the Vita are too cramped for a shooter imo...by the end of chapter one on this game my hands were like fuck this

Yeah, although the built-in memory isn't enough for the Japanese audio patch so you'll need a memory card if you want to play with that.

Finished Chapter 1. Got a D. Had a number of AI glitches in the arcade rooms (Monokumas would run around instead of join the Dance), and didn't feel the need or want to look for the fifth hidden kid. Probably just going to accept that I wont't be getting good ranks, don't want to make each chapter a slow collectathon slog.

Yep, but I do suggest that you go out of your way to collect the journals and diaries. They can be a pain to collect, but their stories are interesting and help flesh out the game's world.

Not an issue, I just used the 16gb card already in my Vita. Works brilliantly! I can just move it between the two depending on whether I want the TV or not.

So far impressed with my pstv. Not bad for £20, and it was brand new too! The guy got it free with his PS4 and had no use for it.

For me the character interactions between Toko and Komaru make the game more than the despair stuff, so yeah I think it's worth giving a shot. You will probably cringe in some places though.

Cringe is all part of the danganronpa experience!

Such as the mikan vagina shot!

I still don't know what that was all about...
