I don't think Rebirth will involve any sort of line-wide narrative, unless Darkseid War is pointing in that direction.

Guys I already posted the answer in the comics thread.

Batman is smiling on issue #52's cover thus Martha and Thomas Wayne are obviously the "rebirth"....

Filthy Slug

Crowd screaming like hounds at the heat of the chase/ All the colors of the rainbow flood my face
So long as this makes Green Lantern and Flash readable again I'll be happy.
I wouldn't be surprised if they're bringing back the classic JSA. I remember Johns saying in an AMA a year or so back that JSA was the book he missed writing the most and he was bummed the N52 didn't allow for a proper JSA because the universe was too new.

Man, Morrison bless whoever tries to salvage those two titles from the diarrhea dumpster they've been living in for years.

Might have been mentioned already but if Rebirth isn't a reboot what if it's just a straight resurrection of the pre-New 52/Flashpoint universe with some of the newer stuff (that did work) mixed in. Sales have tank to below pre-New 52 levels haven't they? That more then anything should have sent a message to DC that what they were doing wasn't liked more then anything. So why not give people want they want. Instead of chasing that 100K sales and failing hard go back to what they knew gave them modest sales that could spike with events and what made customers happy and willing to buy more titles.

Is that a real possibility here? It wouldn't be a reboot because they aren't starting fresh but returning to an old status quo, perhaps humbled.

I don't think a lot of the fans will come back unless Didio (and Bob Harras, and for some, even Geoff Johns) is gone as well. The hate for him is too strong and personal.

Anyways, some tidbits from the newest solicitations which is... interesting...

Black Canary has a secret about her past

Kent Nelson shows up in Dr. Fate

Superman meets Pre-Flash Point Superman

"Echoes from Batman's past ripple out into Gotham City's future…"

So I think
JSA
is pretty much obvious.

What's going on in Superman and Batman is interesting to say the least.
There's no way two supermen, knowing each other's existence, will be a long term thing. Also it sounds like Batman's timeline will be fleshed out or reconciled with pre-flashpoint.

So with the above in mind, I think we're due for a retcon punch.

and nothing of value was lost
Except for solo red constructs!
I hate God like White Kyle. For me, he is the best Green Lantern ever (Jordan should not have come back, he is shitty). Even a low level Ion is enough for me, but keep him green.
Is Sodom Yat still jobbing as Ion or no?
Feel like all the color corp stuff was just wasted.

I dunno. Larfleeze, Red Lanterns, and Sinestro all got books. I want a Saint Walker book, and I'd be more than okay with a Indigo Tribe book. Star Sapphires...eh.
I want to get into DC comics would I be better off starting with Geoff Johns Green Lantern Omnibus series?

It's not a bad choice, that's for sure

God the Sapphires are so creepy. Basically horror movie villains.

Their spirit animal is named "The Predator"

Why does "Love" have the most sadistic looking one?

When I think old stuff people love, the immediate thought is Wally and the JSA. Followed by Superman & Lois. So tomorrow should be interesting.

The predator is awesome, favorite is still Parallax.

I always liked that rage looked like a roided out bull.

Poor atrocitus, I would love to see him bonded with the Butcher for a while longer.

Wally West
Hush' storyline
Cass upgraded back to full sidekick
Removal of this awful not-Barbara Gordon
Shiva back to normal

IDK what they did to Shiva but she just cropped up in Secret Six and started handing out pain like it's candy on Halloween.

Barbra's fine, you're just racist against millennials.

If it's being announced at an event for retailers...does that mean any videos of it would basically be Didio standing up on stage and talking about how what he loves is apparently what we love...

I have lots of excitement but little faith. THen again DCYou was really good so it really depends on creative teams getting solid runs on books. I want to imagine picking up fat OHCs in a few years.

Shiva was deaged to around Nightwing's age also lost most of her skill.

Barbara isn't fine, if the book was exactly the same but about Steph instead i'd be fine.
Hell i'd be okay if it was early Barbara, but saying it came afer Oracle and the New52 original is weird.
I can't even buy her and Dick as ever being a thing.

Error

Jealous of the Glory that is Johnny Depp
Johns' GL run is amazing, don't let Kyle fanboys tell you otherwise. Definitely worth a read just to see how much he expanded the GL mythos, and all the cool characters that run introduced.

See, you're just not judging the book on its own merits. It's all about how other characters would fit better or how it doesn't work with the older stuff... on its own, it's a little shaky, but generally pretty good.

Anyway, I think they might have undone Shiva, 'cause now she's looking like this:

I don't get the Green Lanterns and why they're supposed to be so powerful. WHy are those constructs the be all end all? It's never been made clear to me if the energy they use to make their constructs was explicitly damaging or not. I read all of that stuff with the red and the black and Kyle with his white clothes and it just looked like different colors of the same thing. What's the big deal?

It makes for pretty gatefold images for one. Otherwise I can't really remember. I think it's more like channeling pure energy rather than them being...like...something else.

BC also says DC wants some people locked in contracts that makes them DC only, they can't even do Image/IDW/Dark Horse stuff.

My problem with GL corps after Blackest Night was all of the following major GL events. I felt the guardians re-treading old grounds by being the assholes had been done to death already and it pretty much burned me out of GL books.

That's only going to kill their talent pool. You won't get a Gillen or Hickman with an exclusive contract.

Hickman, Gillen, Remender, Rucka, Liu. These people are on fire at Image.

If this is true, the highest profile people in the Rebirth fold could only be Johns himself, and Simone and Syder because I'm assuming they wouldn't bar working with Vertigo.

This is creative suicide, if true.

For all of the Corps but Red and Violet, they are creating hard light constructs by channeling whatever emotion their Corps are tied to, so when Hal makes a giant fist it's a physical object that causes physical pain. Reds and Violets (the Star Sapphires) function a little different due to being at the extreme ends of the spectrum. Reds cannot make constructs, but rather vomit up hot plasma. Sapphires make constructs but they are crystal based as opposed to light due to the nature of the physical star sapphire. They can also encase people in crystal and turn them into new Sapphires.

Each of the various Corps have their own idiosyncrasies. Blues supercharge Greens, can cure Reds, soothe Oranges, and cannot use the offensive capabilities of their rings unless a Green is present. Indigos can channel any of the other spectrum colors. Reds cannot die unless their rings are removed.

Wow 2 Ted Kord fans in one thread.

Dozens of us!

What if rebirth refers to a rebirth of their business plan and leads to an announcement of a Marvel Unlimited type of service?!

No?

In any case, have they ever made any references to that sort of service either way?

Here's hoping for a Ted Kord book :p

Nah breh

I read once that Jim Lee is a big advocate for something like that, but nothing explicit out of the company that I can recall.

Dan

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
Yeah. I can believe that DC would say "sign this saying you won't write for Marvel too" but excluding Image and the others? Doesn't make sense in 2016 if the goal is getting big name writers you don't already have.
Which is how both DC and Marvel have been operating. They'd have to pay out the ass in today's climate to keep them writers away from all other publishers.

Sounds like utter bullshit.

A team up book between Ted and Jamie. It kinda sucks how Jamie and Ted never had any actual interaction that I can recall.

Or just do a book featuring Guy and Jamie teaming up.

At this point, I wouldn't be shocked.

Really? Because I would.

DC apparently can't stop their talent from going to Marvel, you think they're going to shell out the kinda bucks they'd need to keep people away from Image too?

A Jaime Ted book could be fun, though Ted's best paired with Booster. Guy and Jaime would be much better tho.

Guy + anybody sounds like a fun book. I think he should be the JLA GL, but I'm super biased.

I'm doubting a dc unlimited service announced at a retailer conference. Wouldn't retailers hate that idea? I think it's past due though.

Giving reds constructs kind of took their charm away. I like them being the smaller corps but extremely powerful and unpredictable. Now they're jobbers.

Any exclusive deals from DC would probably mirror Marvel's exclusive deals where they can work for anyone but the main competition. For example Jeff Lemire is "exclusive" to Marvel but still does Dark Horse, Valiant, and Image work. It makes sense to want to lock down the creators on your top books, why risk the writer of Batman/Wonder Woman/whatever jumping ship in the middle of an arc and leaving you in the lurch?
